Fabia Vrs Oil Fix

Featured Replies

Odd....mine's on variable...where did that come from? If so, somebody let Wayside know they're setting them wrong as mine's on variable.

I think Tech1e said the other day that ALL skodas (bar the citigo) now come from the factory set to variable servicing as standard.

  • The vrs won't have the oil in the system long enough for it to do any damage

Yep - this discussion has gone around before.

The bottom line. Which I have to congratulate Skoda UK agreeing to:

I am having my car replaced with a brand new car (another VRS, as its still the best car in its category for fuel economy, power and practicality ratio), with me only paying for the USE of the vehicle for two years (which I think is perfectly reasonable) based on pence per mile. As I have only covered 15k in two years, all I can say is bravo Skoda UK for a good deal.

That seems a good outcome. I would be interested to know who you dealt with at Skoda UK and how the calculation on cost of use is calculated, i.e. how much per mile. I totally agree with your comments on the vRS being the best car around for the cost when considering performance, driver satisfaction, practicality and economy.

I'm still monitoring my oil consumption following the oil breather modification. After the first 370 miles I had the worst ever consumption result when I had to add 0.6 litres of oil. However it has now carmed down and appears to be hovering around the 0.5 litre per 1000 km limit. I don't understand how this can be technically possible (accepting the difficulties taking consistent and accurate oil level readings) but my dealer says that a similar trend has been reported on other cars judging from comments from a technician at SUK. I have an oil consumption check pending and the car will go in for this once I'm confident it will fail.

My dealer has six MkII vRS's on his books and only oil problems with mine. The message I keep getting from Skoda UK is that the problem is not so widespread. I have so far failed to get any level of technical information from my discussions with Skoda UK and there is no acknowledgement that the latest CTHE engine addresses the consumption problem. If I do claim for a replacement engine I'm told that I won't get a new catalytic converter.

I agree that the ECU update that comes with the oil breather mod changes the running characterisics of the engine and I suspect fuel consumption is slightly up as a result.

I would be more than happy with a replacement car rather than a replacement engine if the oil consumption is not resolved.

|My CTHE uses oil (from half way up "A" area of the ip stick down to half way up hatched at 1900 miles) but I am not topping up untill light comes on. I am hoping that if I leave it be it will settle. All the different factors at play, oil level in the cran case, oil pressure depending on the level etc.

A vRS can be for life, not just for Christmas.

(well some can be !)

Please give it some oil.!!!

Where is the harm in just a little.?

New Engine,

1900 not so easy miles,

.25 to maybe .5 of a litre would not go wrong really.

Up to normal running temperature

& a Dip/Check as per Hand Book, (if it was any good)

Some oil added, if needed.

Do not over fill, but be near to running the engine at the correct oil capacity.

It only needs 3.6 litres of oil, so no point running it with only 3 litres or even less IMO.

Just a silly thought.

george

I see your point mate and frnakly I am of two minds...

What I'd like to know really is the realtionship between oil mark on the dipstick and the physical quantity of oil eaten up to make a judgement call.

My guess is that even if the oil lamp is gowing red there is still enough oil in the engine to prevent it from seizing up but not enough perhaps to keep redlining it :D.

I still have yellow oil warning beforehand :)

Less oil less presssure less load on all sorts of seals and potential passages aloowing them to workthemselves shut, "grind down" those excessive tolerances.

I will also give it anothr dose of my running in regime to see if this helps in any way - paddles here I come

George, I'm not sure what you are saying here. I monitor and top up oil as you advise. I'm sure that most of us with problems do the same. It is no joke when you have to add 0.5 litres once a fortnight.

He is urging me to add oil and not wait for the oil warning light to come on :)

Don't get paranoid. You ain't got a problem remember !!!

(If you have, what hope for the rest of us?)

As long as you top-up as soon as it comes on I can't see too much problem. Having said that the one and only time the light has come on with mine the dipstick was virtually bone-dry. Not cool! :whew:

Since topping it back up again its been fine since and barely used a drop.

And that is my plan !

I see my role with my car that if its going to develop a thirst for oil then to ensure this happens during the warranty period:)

What interests me a little, and not too much,

but sometimes i like to sit and think.

The same Dipstick is used on the other engines that take 3.9 litres of oil and really use no oil.

Then it is used on the engine that takes 3.6 litres.

Well we could get into the percentage of oil and how low it is when at its lowest on the dipstick of the engine that holds 3.6 litres.

(thats for those that run low oil to think about not me)

Jabozuma,

the car has not been used for a week or so because of the Ice about here.

So just done a little 30 mile trip.

The MPG achieved is rather amazing.

You just need to find a road that goes more down hill than up & the ambient & road surface is cold enough.

No Cool Air Intake required.

It took, 20 miles before the oil got to 82 degrees, then it cooled again with speed, then the MPG just kept getting better.

I will post pics in the MPG thread.

george

B0011cks! My MPG today on 20 miles was 32mpg :(

Maybe the 2 of you are not fully in sync yet.

Feed her well and talk nicely

(does she even have a name yet?)

Mine is male but in touch with his feminine side, Metrosexual & called Flabio.

george

Hahahaha, my women enjoy firm hand ;)

You're not trying hard enough ;)

Must use more

-5C today and even crappier mpg. Sod it, I ddin't buy this car to be shy of the accelerator pedal.

I think I need to name her ...

Normally with the CAVE engine it would be another couple of thousand miles where the economy improves or it starts to look like it needs a new engine.

Your running in regime with the more recent engine should have this point arriving sooner i would imagine.

The only need for the economy runs, is so that you can see just how bad it gets when you are being naughty.

have fun with it,

good things come to those that wait.

(then indicate & just boot it hard, you remember why you were so excited while you waited for the delivery day.)

george

I am still excited! I will be driving few miles lunch time to pick up a SSD drive from one of the PCWorld shops and I am looking forward to the drive ! Just pray there are no undercover blues around ;) When a friend of mine was local traffic interceptor cop I knew all the under cover ones, now he's retired and no such info anymore :(

Thanks Vicky, tired it and it came up with Madonna! Blooming Hell no :D

Mine came up with Kitty but it already has a name!

I Helga for some reason
