First Shark PUBLIC Remap of the 1.6 TDI CR

Featured Replies

I agree. Alot of people said they wanted a diesel vRS and with a remap then now have the potential to make a Mk2 Diesel vRS.

  • dont just look at peak torque. peak figures dont mean anything. Its the amount of area below the power/torque curves which equate to a faster car, that area is what matters and petrol engine has tha

  • Remap my monte was best mod so far! Drives brilliantly and still good on fuel.

  • Monte Carlo looks awesome in yellow and black!

I should have got the monte 105 and mapped it then... could have ruined so many cars :)

Why is this thread even drifting into Mk2 vRS territory, when it is clearly about remapping the CR 1.6 diesel?

I disagree on one thing though. A stock mk2 vrs is not scary fast at all!!

Because the guy who had the remap said it was as fast as a mk2 vrs now.

Mine one is after going over 130mph, front lifts up LOL

i never said it was as fast, i was just saying in real world driving it would feel as fast, handle the same due to shared suspension and chassis set up, look identical (if not better imo due to smoked lights, black grill etc) AND be far far cheaper to run, all for 400 quid on top of a 75bhp 1.6 CR Monte Carlo price tag....cheers shark :-D.....nuff said lol.

Go on then, say my Monte's as fast as a vRS. I won't say no.

I'm sure it's not, but would like it to be within a couple of (hundred) metres!

I am extremely interested in the 105 map outcome - 75 to 130odd must be immense, but would I "feel" an extra 25bhp?

Incidentally, GOOD NEWS, Mrs PDIBK has kept her job, so Monte doesn't have to go quite yet!

Congrats to Mrs PDBIK

I'm sure Brimma will be along soon with information on how his car drives. Forget the 25hp peak gain, there's 35bhp available through the mid range and 40Nm.

Does Shark offer STU for Fabia II vRS twincharger?

Does Shark offer STU for Fabia II vRS twincharger?

I'm afraid we don't but I think you can get an ointment for that.

Do you mean STS?

Does Shark offer STU for Fabia II vRS twincharger?

It's still a 1.6 CR Tdi thread

You could do something radical like contacting him direct, instead of spamming everyone else's thread?

Ha ha ha, I thought it was a Self Tuning Unit :).

Self Tuning System sounds as well.

Back on topic, and being the first person to gain the benefit of Ben and Mikko's labours, I have to say they've done a fantastic job on this map

Those who have a 105bhp derivative, who are thinking "will I gain anything from an extra 25-30bhp?", believe me, you will

It's silky smooth to drive compared to standard, and the power kicks in over a much wider range than before

Economy isn't affected either, my journey home from a local meet last night showed 67.3mpg on the maxidot

I've got to say a big thank you to Ben and the team at Shark Performance - they bent over backwards to get the car back to me yesterday afternoon, and the communication keeping me up to date with what was going on was second to none

I'm proud to have been able to be involved with the development stage, and even happier that Ben has got a great product to put out there to other 1.6 CR Tdi owners

You won't be disappointed, so go for it, the longer you put it off, the more you'll regret not getting it done earlier :)

Bloody right you ill feel a 25hp gain especially across the entire power band.

I'm sooooo interested, but just the small matter of convincing said job keeper/Chief Finance Officer/Sensible half of Marriage that it's a good idea - as she has kept her job, the "plan" might be shopping for a camper van to replace the second car (Monte).

Logic? Come September, both the kids will be at school 2 miles away, instead of one being 12 miles away in nursery, so no need for a second car to do 50 miles a day. I did get it to show me 68.4 mpg on trip mpg setting 1 yesterday (previous max 54 or so) after getting stuck behind an arctic doing 45 mph for 2/3 of the journey! Of course, with the remap, I'd have ripped past the truck (no way Monte would have made it yesterday, without becoming a Monte-Scenery/Monte-oncoming hybrid) and got back to "normal" mpg readouts.

Monte superfluous - :-(

Monte becomes endangered - :-(

Campervan for instant holidays - :-)

Getting Monte remapped for 5-6 months... \shrug/ (I'm not emoticon literate... ;-))

Out of interest, are both the 75bjp monte and the 105bhp monte identical apart from the state of tune? ie size brakes etc?

As an example the CR110 Yeti and the CR140 Yeti have identical engines, but the 110's brakes are much smaller.

I can vouch for Ben's abilities in the remap arena.

He remapped my CR140 DSG 2 years ago (doesn't time fly) and I have had 34,000 miles of fun, trouble free motoring around South London's congested roads ever since.

I upgraded my brakes as well.

Sent using whatever device I'm using at the time.

Both the 105 monte and the1.4 vrs have 184 foot pounds of torque, the montes coming in at just under 2000 rpm!!

Would be interesting to see a RR printout showing the bhp/torque curves.

Sounds like a good way to finally get a nippy mk2 diesel.

This was the first preview of Bryans 1.6 TDI.

I have a genuine question about the Shark or indeed anyone's maps: basically, is there any way for the owner to tell that it has been mapped? Yes, THE OWNER, not the dealer.

I know, I know, you'll feel it under-foot etc, but what I'm getting-at is this: I had a new diesel Smart car and the dealer twice remapped it without my say-so, using their latest map to make it do more regens, fix a problem where it would over-rev when you change gear etc.

Now my car wasn't ever remapped for performance, but the point is that the dealer didn't tell me what they were doing, I just felt something was different and subsequently asked the service department what they had done. So, my concern here would be having a new/ new'ish Skoda Fabia remapped and the local dealership unkowingly undoing it in the interests of helping me.

I mean, you could hardly complain, nor can you instruct your dealer NOT to remap your car if it goes in to be fixed or serviced really. So, i. is there any way of telling for sure if it's still mapped (other than seat-of-the-pants), and ii. is there any agreement in place for redoing the map? I've already become paranoid and I don't have a relevant car yet!

Cars may well receive an ECU update when in for a service ,

and the re-map previously done and that was there when you put the car in can be lost.

(often the customer is not aware untill they drive the car if changes have been done if the Workshop does not tell the Reception to tell you.)

If you have a re-map done and are happy that your Warranty on engine or Drivetrain my be invalid with the Manufacturers Warranty, then just tell the Dealership doing the Service 'not to do an ECU check or Update'.

Maybe have the re-map done at a Supplying Dealer that Warranty their work, and have your servicing done there.

Different Tuners will have arrangement to re-map for you if it is wiped.

There's no real way for an owner to know on the 1.6tdi other than the bum dyno (or a real dyno).

We always reinstate a map FOC after a dealer update.

Quick update on the driving/economy experience so far

A cold drive into work of only 2.5 miles used to show very high 30s on the maxidot, now shows about 52 :)

And the return trip, up a steep hill which used to show just over 30, is now running over 40 :) :)

And the trip uphill, with the extra bhp is an awful lot easier now than it was

So there you go, it's a win-win

Due to be taking her on a trip up to the Lakes shortly, so shall report back after that
