Thanks andy! i cant wait to finally drive it! im buzzing, its such a great car!

Red Monte Carlos do look good, the black and red is a good colour combo IMO.

my daughter has a 12 reg monte

but to be honest I prefer driving my GLII, personal preference but I find the GL seats more comfortable on a long run

also strange as it seems the monte is quieter on tick over but the GL is quieter over 50mph?

but it is still a very nice motor, I love the styling of it,

picking up citigo 9am sunday, so will prob be gone before you get there

Edited by bluecar1

saw your monte sat on the path today :) nice

saw our citigo they were just finishing prep and polish of it, seems funny seeing a 52reg citigo

what time you due to pick up?

if you are picking up 1st September I may see you there collecting wifes new citigo

Doubtful, as he doesn't turn 17 until 12th September

How times have changed since I got my first car

Just a small point,

there are 16 year olds allowed to drive cars on UK roads, L Driver & pass test and full driving rights.

Quite a few around.

& many with a nice new car, and not all have automatics..

http://www.update.org.uk/upfiles/Disabled%20Driving.pdf

When i was still at school in the North East of Scotland many young Fishermen bought a Brand new car after there first or second trip to sea at 16

& friends drove the car & sometimes there was another new car ordered for them to drive on their 17th birthday.

So a Datsun Sunny or 1300E followed by a Mexico or RS 2000.

Octy vRS mkIII sticking its nose into the 2nd picture... Mmmmm. Want!

Nice monte though :-)

Very interesting, George, but you omitted to mention that the exemption for 16 year olds relates to them receiving higher rate mobility allowance (although it is mentioned in the link provided, which for some reason has a Scotland reference)

I can't for the life of me see why a 16 year-old would stump up £12k for a car only for a 'friend' to drive it about

I'm guessing more likely it's a 'very generous parent' purchase, unless the OP walked into an extremely well-paid job from school and managed to save that much

I just pointed out that 16 year olds can drive, then showed why and how by putting the Link there to be read and explain.

The 16 year olds do not necessarily have an obvious  Disability.

Scotland has nothing to do with it, just the document.

(i am in Scotland so am more likely to read Scottish updates on stuff that concerns me.)

But, UK wide DVLA rules.

Re walking into a well paid job, obviously the 16 year old Fishermen were in the 70's,

double or treble a ordinary persons wage. & that was the start until they got a Share.

With HP it has never been about Saving other than a Deposit,

many young people have a deposit and a nice income from doing a good job at 17 year old.

With Lease cars available & High Insurance, many young people bought brand new Fords just a couple of years ago because of the 'Free Insurance'. Ka or Fiesta. Or their parents helped or bought.

It hardly matters why you should see why someone does something, they did and do.

You want to see some school car parks around this way, pupils cars not Teachers.

& the Driving Instructors lining up to collect pupils for driving lessons.

Surely not only a North South divide because i know it happens in many areas of the UK.

george

OK - how many 16 year olds on HRMA could stash £12k to BUY a brand new car?

If that is possible it's not surprising the country is in the financial mess it's in

A mobility car would be much the better option, as you pay feck all per month for the pleasure, and get a new car every 2 or 3 years

You need to open your eyes or ask a car salesman.

Young People inherit Money, have rich parents etc.

Look at a Pikey encampment and see the youngsters and their new cars.

Visit Aberdeen and you will see Young & New drivers and new cars a plenty.

Look at the cars in general being driven because of the wealth in that area.

Motability is not Free & some Children are deserving of Freedom.

Those that pay, pay £54 a week or more pay it from the money they have coming in..

Wrong to jump to conclusions why they get that money.

Children can get compensation for birth defects from the NHS.

Accidents caused by others like in road accidents,  Disabled Children can be from any class of parent or income rate.

There is no end of why young people can have money.

Generous Grand parents might be a biggy.

I do not have Mobility cars because they are not value for me to have.

I have had 3 year lease & 5 year HP from Mobility in the past when it was a True Charity,

unlike now where Motability Finance is run by the 5 Major Banks after the Government gave them the 1.3 Billion fund.

So the person with a Mobility car will be paying a minimum of £216  4 weekly for the lease car, and possibly they paid a non returnable deposit. 8.8% APR if taking the loan on HP.

It is not your money, any more than other Benefits and Tax Credits are costing Tax Payers.

Those that snear at Benefits being paid or someone Leasing a car from Motability need to remember that Today they might have a Stroke and tomorrow they may be in need of help.

Nobody knows their future, healthy today,

a car accident next week and a brain injury or another life changing injury.
