We've started having tinker with the 2.0TDI 184PS

Featured Replies

I'm another that's very interested in fitting a tuning box - for me it's more a question of when rather than if.  Ignore the bickering comments - mind you, no worse than what I've seen on Alfa forums!!  (Now there's a marque that attracts some odd owners!).

What I do want to know is how easy is it to fit, and who can I get to do it for me if I don't feel capable?  I live in West Sussex (near Gatwick), and I doubt the dealer would be too keen!!

I appreciate this is probably an irrelevant and difficult question to answer, but size is everything - would anyone hazard a guess at the 0-62mph time for the diesel vRS with a box fitted?!  I'm keen to turn my green machine into a sub 7 second machine, without modding too much or risking an engine failure.

It's a 2 minutes job, you just need something to stabilize the box (I used velcro)

as for the times

this is my Audi A3 8V with the same box. but 4WD

Jesus isn't the standard 0-60 time around 7.3 usually? So that means you've knocked 1.5 seconds off?

6.7 stock

more impressive is the 400m time sub 14sec (best time 13,78)

Very interesting. Did the PP version start out with more than the 230 it is said to have? Just wondered, as I thought it had one or two differences to the 220 engine. ( I could well be wrong on this. ;)  ) presumably part of the gain would be down to a modified exhaust system, as it is Milltek's own car. I'm guessing that could be part of the 'stage2' package. I have to say though, that does sound pretty impressive.

On the basis a vRS diesel clocks 8.1-8.2 sec 0-62 times in standard form, I reckon a box would put it into the low 7's, maybe high 6's at a push.

Gotta think for a minute that the 220hp petrol standard runs late 6 sec 0-62's, it'd get off the mark quicker than the diesel with less gear changes; its also a bit lighter.....Id doubt a tuned TDi with a handful more HP than a TSi is quite quick as a standard TSi. In gear acceleration in the higher gears would likely be v impressive though.

i posted this on the Golf GTI forum, so hopefully it will be of interest to some..

thought this may be of interest to some of you guys.

Hi guys i thought id start a new thread regarding our plans for tuning the latest VAG 2.0 TFSI including the new Golf R

Our hardware is produced in Germany by DTE Systems Gmbh, and as their sole Official UK importer we (DTUK) have access to  the latest technology they have available and quite often we have systems not available to anyone else.

We have specialised in Diesel Tuning since 2005 and in that time we have sold over 15,000 kits worldwide and over the years have spent 1000's of hours developing our VAG Diesel Tuning kits. Over the last 12 months DTE have invested over £1.5 million into new production facilities including a top of the range MAHA 4WD dyno. The results they're seeing are fantastic but they're only interested in a plug in and go option, they're not interested in offering any stage 2 tunes for petrols.

Over the last 9 years i can count on one hand the number of customers who have asked about adding an exhaust or FMIC to a diesel car weVE tuned for them, where as petrol enthusiasts kind of expect this. Hence the reason we have decided to partner Shark performance on the Petrol tuning side of things. Ben at Shark reminds me so much of myself as were both passionate about what we do, abet via 2 completely different methods but bringing both of years of knowledge together seams like a natural thing.

Tuning boxes over the years have had a lot of bad press, and rightly so. Just like remaps there a good ones, and a lot more bad ones but I'm confident that we (DTUK and Shark Performance) are able offer the best warranty safe option there is on the market for the 2.0TFSI and many others.

So getting back to the boxes, we will be offering 2 options to customers.

1) The FSR system.

this will be a stage 1 tune kit and has been designed for customers who have no plans to add any hardware upgrades to their car. The full retail price on that kit is £499 inc vat. and will be available direct from DTUK or Shark Performance HQ.

2) The FSR+ system

How does this differ to the FSR? Well as i mentioned earlier as the official UK importer for DTE i do have a really good relationship with them and when i asked if they could help us create something a little different, something that would allow us to offer a system capable of being updated for stage 2 tunes and above they were prepared to listen. Several months later the FSR+ was born.

FSR on the left, and FSR+ on the right.

3FFB2A21-A45B-40EC-BED2-E0A6BAFF4AD0_zps

As I've said DTUK is the only official UK importer of DTE Systems tuning modules, so you can be assured of a tuning system of the highest quality with the backing of one of Germanys longest established tuners.

Both systems are now available to purchase, but at this time both kits are only available with Stage 1 tunes, the Stage 2 tunes will be released over the next week or so and i do believe that we will be offering packages with the relevant Milltek exhaust.

This is still work in progress so if you have any questions please ask, and ill update this thread with the all important figures as soon as i can, but i can confirm that the stage 1 tunes will be approx 280/290 and the Stage 2 should be 300+

Again i must stress that this time we have not released any official figures and that anyone who has purchased kits from DTUK before today will be entitled to any stage 1 upgrades that we release F.O.C.

FSR+ Hybrid - Multi-Channel Petrol Tuning System

The latest addition to the DTUK® range, developed alongside Shark Performance, the FSR+ Hybrid has been developed for the very latest turbocharged premium petrol cars.

In response to the shift to even more complex tamperproof vehicle ECU’s by many German car manufacturers we have teamed up with Shark Performance to develop a solution that offers a ‘remap in a box’ that does not require physical, warranty voiding, changes to your vehicles ECU. Combining the best of both worlds – the plug & play nature of a tuning box with the in-depth monitoring and software optimisation of a high-quality remap and DTUK’s years of successful  system developments with Shark’s years of equally successful software development - the Hybrid is born.

The FSR+ Hybrid Petrol Tuning System.

The FSR+ Petrol Tuning System is an all new system that builds on our existing multimap technology from both our diesel CRD-T and petrol CRD-P systems and adds an increased level of multi-channel monitoring and control as demanded by the latest vehicle OEM ECU’s.

The FSR+ is capable of interacting with multiple channels across multiple sensors to suit each application. These can include RPM, fuel injection, boost pressure, air mass, temperature and more. By simultaneously monitoring a variety of sensors an optimised level of tune can be safely achieved.

Just like the DTUK® Diesel Tuning Systems you may already be familiar with, this system is designed to be plug and play albeit with more connections than most diesel applications due to the number of monitoring points mentioned above.

To maintain quality, safety and suitability we only use Original Equipment (OE) connectors in our systems which enables easy, quick fitting in minutes, not hours. This means that the kit can be removed just as easily when required. Once the system is removed your car reverts back to factory settings.

Often the system can be re-programmed to fit other applications if you change your current car*.

Added benefit of the FSR+ Hybrid Petrol Tuning System.

Historically, our systems have been designed specifically for standard cars. We appreciate that many petrol turbo owners will want to make future hardware upgrades to their engines. If you fall in to this category then you can take advantage of the FSR+ upgrade option where your system can be re-programmed to suit your modifications**.

All FSR+ Petrol Tuning systems arrive to you carefully packed, complete with everything you will need for simple and straightforward installation. This includes full colour instructions, your petrol tuning system, the correct wiring harness including OE connectors and where applicable a blanking plug should you wish to temporarily return the car to standard trim without removing the loom.

These units come with full TüV approval and are well protected in a special heat and acid-resistant plastic exterior housing. Wiring harnesses are equipped with up to seven separate connections and are thoroughly checked, physically and electronically, several times before despatch. The sturdy 18-pin connector used to connect the system to the loom provided is specially designed for tough conditions and is used throughout the automotive sector. The adapter plugs are manufactured to OEM quality. No soldering or cutting of wires is necessary. Just connect it up and it’s done!

The FSR+ system is subject to the strict quality controls of the system manufacturer DTE Systems GmbH. This guarantees that you the customer will receive the best possible product.

*Dependent on compatibility. A replacement loom may be required as well as a software change.

**Software changes subject to development that may be chargeable and may require the vehicle being taken to DTUK®, Shark or an approved dealer thereof.

fitting is very very easy indeed, and if you would like someone to talk you though it prior to purchasing a kit I'm more than willing to send you the fitting instructions and take some time out to do just that. Failing that we do have dealers up and down the country who could fit it for you, but they would charge you full retail plus fitting..

Andrew, I for one am very interested in knowing just how you guys get on with the petrol tuning box, please keep me updated via this thread.  Any work being done or planned for the lesser 1.4 TSI tunning box, I got an unconfirmed BW6 now, front and rear anti roll bars and hi-flow air filter all researched, sold shedloads of stuff for funding, just can't wait.

Regards

T

not sure if you've seen this before, but I've just received this from DTE

Hi Andrew,

Glad to see you're still hanging in there...

I'm still running map 4+2 on my Vrs TDi with no problems and still keeping me smiling everyday I use the car...

Do you still have plans to give yours a run at Motoscope?...

Keep up the good work.

No not seen that graph before Andrew but, I like it.  Loads of torque, for Eco mode, original engine max power from 3-1/2 thou and 176 PS from 5 to 6 thou for semi-auto.....

Yeah, I could live with that, I think.  LOLOL

Regards

T

Just came across this video on YouTube -

0-60 in standard time he managed 7.4/7.7 seconds as standard which is alot faster than the book speed. With a box that will bring it easily down to high 6's….Well thats what I am hoping for anyway . Just want my car to hurry up and arrive to get one of these fitted.

Hi Steve,

I'm sure its booked in this next week at Motoscope :)

Hi Andrew,

Please keep me updated on developments... I shall be very interested if there are advancements with the software...

What is the current Briskoda member price for the VRS TSI FSR box? The DTUK's website lists a base price of £549 minus 10% online discount (£494). There is also a £60 January discount offer quoted on the checkout page (using code Sale60) making the final price £434, but I am unsure whether both the 10% and £60 offers can be used in tandem.

Also, is the FSR box simply the new name for the CRD-P, or are there physical differences?

Really can't believe all the flack Andrew from DTUK is getting here, has anyone ever tried contacting another "tuning box" company and asking for technical information?

I will give you an example, I was weary when I brought my tuning box for my vRS CR so I did some shopping around and as tuning boxes go the on from DTUK isnt the cheapest. I contacted some of the other companies to ask for evidence of their products claims and one even responded with:

"I don't have any rolling road results, you will just have to trust us". - seriously??????

When I contacted Andrew he email me the rolling road result and said here is the evidence, this is how the box connects and this is the data we alter (fuel pressure and boost pressure) to get the results.

A company who is transparent, gives a truthful account of what the product does, and then provides evidence of the claimed figures.......... Isn't that what we want?

Then it's up to us as consumers to decided to buy this product (fully aware of what it does) or opt for a full remap via removal and opening up of the ECU. Well we could always buy one of the other tuning boxes and just "trust them" :-)

Well Andrew got my business and I will be sending my box back shortly and having it re-flashed ready form my new vRS CR 184 whenever it may decide to arrive, lol!!!

We offer £80 off the full rrp of £549

The FSR and FSR+ are using software developed with shark and any future software updates will be free of charge. Any stage updates will be chargeable.

I've sent you a pm

Andrew

Cheers Andrew.

For any interested parties, we have the vRS booked into Motoscope in Northallerton this thursday. Well be running map 4 plus 1 on the dyno which produced 226bhp on Sharks Dyno which will give us some more pub talk :)

We will also be running a new file I've just written this afternoon that Ive just added to our vRS, initial thoughts are that at least on the road the mid range pull is a lot stronger and the traction control light needs a holiday :)

As soon as receive the info back from the dyno ill update this thread :)

Andrew, thats great work you guys are doing there, keep it up, don't know how much of this work is generic though, will any of it transfer to the 1.4 TSI tuning box ?.

Regards

Definitely interested in this Andrew, I am really keen to see the update for this...

Will you be running the 4+1 map only? This seems to be the setting of choice across the different posts I have read from Golf & Leon drivers, but I assumed the 4+2 map I am running would obtain greater hp and torque?... and I did actually run the 4+3 map with no problems as I explained be before which I think felt as if it gave the most power...

Do you think actually the 4+1 is the optimum setting?...

  • Author

Each car is different Steve as we've seen with yours. I'm running 4 plus 1 as that suits my car and that's what we ran at Shark

This maybe of interest to some of the vRS TSI owners

Ben's been busy with the DTUK/Shark FSR+ system

So basically, all the transfered losses from shaft to wheels have been eliminated by the tuning box, Very Impressive.

Excellent, I don't know how much difference the performance pack setup makes, but that does look very impressive. Would love to see the results on the 220 horse unit, though I'm guessing it would probably be 10 or so down on that, due to starting with 10 less.
