We've started having tinker with the 2.0TDI 184PS

Featured Replies

Do you have marters in your neighbourhood?

That could be the cause of the short to plus and the leak in your air intake.

Problems can always be caused by something that has nothing to do with the box.

The error codes only appear when the box is connected. When it isn't the car runs fine and no errors registered.

OK, that sorts these problems out.

I need to test the wiring loom next to see if there is damage to the cables rather than the box itself. I'm going on a long trip round Europe in 2 weeks time though so won't be doing any testing until back from then as I don't want to risk any problems.

Also I've got this "pulsing" feeling when trying to cruise on the motorway at 60-65. It's like the box is turning on and off very quickly and can't make up its mind...

Got the same "pulsing" feel now. With the DSG it's really annoying. Feels like car is completely stalling and suddenly wakes up again. 4+1 and hot temperature 84F (29C).

Sounds a quality piece of kit.....

In all seriousness hope you all get hear issues sorted. I can't believe how 'hit and miss' this seems to be. Certain users able to run on different settings and codes.

I thought you said via pm that it was working fine? Have you tried the other maps? 1/2/3 and does it pulse on map 4 zero?

And you mentioned you have had the same fault code without the box installed...

SkodaMies"

I haven't done the logging yet but I got the same manifold/boost error without the box. So it has nothing to do with the box.

Our octavia continues to run without issue, which is pretty annoying as we're unable to replicate the issue

Mines fine as we'll, on 4+1

Mines fine as we'll, on 4+1

It's doing my head in, but I have a feeling it is some sort of boost sensor issue..

Is it an easy fix? Could you buy a third party one to check it?

  • Author

I'm not sure, I do know if several audis and seats that have had boost sensors replaced under warranty

Mine also pulses when using the cruise control on map 4+2, 3+3, 3+2, 1+2.

It seems to be fine on 3+1, it's as if the ECU is trying to modulate the throttle to maintain a steady speed but the signal is being amplified too much ??

Ignore above, mine is a 1.6 not a VRS to avoid confusion. (Tried to edit above but the edit buttons disappeared)

For those who have a DTUK box who are you insured with? I'll have to call my lot in the morning but it seems when trying to add it online they've changed their T&C's to only include manufacturers mods and certain other things.

I added it my policy mid policy also a change to the Octy.

Declare your modification on a new policy rather than trying to add it to an existing one. Stick it through Go Compare as a totally new policy and you should have no problem finding a decent quote.

If you try to add it mid-term, and the insurers take it as carte blanche to rinse you. Even if you are 6 months through a policy, cancel it and start a new one.

Hi

I have just renewed my insurance with aviva  and it added about £50 extra to the new policy. Also got quote from LV and that was £9 cheaper. with Aviva had to go though details increase power etc but with LV you just tick the modified / tuning chip and that's it.

What was the £50 in percentage terms of your original policy price?

Hi orginial quote was £340 and now £390  so approx 15%

Just for reference I did 2 quotes for the TDi vRS with the meerkats. £180 inc legal cover standard, £307 inc legal cover for "engine management modifications".

That's a 70% hike .... as most maps generally give it the same bhp figures as the standard petrol which cost about £2 more to insure, they are taking the P !

70% by who's maths?!

I suspect £180 and £307 quotes are from different insurers - bare in mind the number of insurers who quote for mods is reduced, so by having a modification you are reducing your options so quotes may be less competitive.

Typically, a mod such as engine tuning chip should add 20-30% to the premium, IF the underwriter is willing to insure.  Many of the insurers operating via the aggs will prefer standard risks - may be worth looking down the broker route, especially one which specialises in performance vehicles.

70% by who's maths?!

Well, my calculator says it's 70.5555556%. Perhaps Mr Grump could have been a bit more accurate, but he's pretty close!

:nerd:

You can't just declare that the maths doesn't apply because the quotes are from different insurers. The one that quoted £307 might have wanted £275 unmodified, but you wouldn't buy it if you can get the same cover for £180, so to your pocket the increase is indeed 70%, irrespective of the name on the policy.

And the quote was from the same insurers, came in top 2 lowest quotes for that site both times. :)

It's about time I introduced Trevor to you all.

image_zps4d6ae635.jpg

Trevor has been in the pipeline for a while and will be officially launched later this month, but is currently available for any Skodaowner with the latest 150/184ps TDis

Well post more details at a later date, but basically this new updated system comes with 3 programmes rather than 4, and has a push button keypad to make any adjustments.

We did conduct some dyno tests last Saturday when it was rather warm..

image_zpsae052e79.jpg

The CRDT produced 229bhp and 499nm, several minutes later "Trevor" produced 239bhp and 515nm using the same software.

We've been testing this kit for a while and have several 184 owners running this kit and the feedback has all been positive.

As previously mentioned, this kit is now available to members of the forum but not on general release til later this month.

That looks to be able to extract the maximum - pretty much like this Trevor from GTA. ;)

How much does a Trevor cost, and have you dyno'd a 150ps yet? Even though I was planning to wait until after my first service I can't help but wonder what it's be like with more powahhh
