Hy, I have just updated yesturday from that sw to 4020 and it worked perdectley, now I'm going to update to 5278. I just need to find someone in torquay to help me with a vcds coding to activate my maxidot navigation.

I'd also be very surprised if 5278 will work.

And even it does, it won't bring anything new or better to your Columbus.

Personally, I'd leave well alone.

I've stopped at 4120 (only adds radio text over 4020 - not that it is very good).

I just wanted to try the newer sw because my mfsw command don't work and and i only have the setup and mdf on maxidot. If anybody in torquay can help me with a couding in vcds(as i suspect that is the problem) can contact me on my mail [email protected], I will leav it at 4020, if not the upgrade sames the onky chance for me to try and get the mfsw command to come back.

I think i have seen a post here, somebody said that after going for 5269 original, he got the mfsw and navi on maxidot back.

If your unit is an old one then 5269 could probably kill it. Just trying newer SW isn't necessarily something I'd recommend unless you're happy to throw away your Columbus when it breaks. However, you've now changed from attempting to try 5278 to attempting to try 5269, which tells me perhaps you're guessing as to what might work and what could be fun. There is no 5278 firmware for a start.

The issue with your mfsw and maxidot might be a simple coding issue (in which case no amount of firmware updates will change it) or it might be a mismatch between your car and the unit you have fitted (pre facelift Octavia) which requires a very specific fix.

Thank you for the quick reply rusty. I'm not trying to see what is fun....I'm simply frustrated. When i got the car it had 1004sw. I hod for a brif moment the sat nav on the maxidot, but disappeared by it self as i was driving from the dealer back home. I don't know if it is down to coding or wireconection of actual buttons. I was hoping that this upgrade will fix it. I also tried the skoda fix sw and still nothing. Now I don't want to end up with a brick and if you don't recommend 5269 I will stick with 4020. I don't care about the radio txt. The unit come with the car from new.

This info is on the unit:

Hw :H04

Sw : 1004

The unit was a 1z0...680a and has become a 3t0 after the upgrade.

The sw upgrade is actual 4024 not 4020 sorry about that.

Any way if you can give me some more advice or help it will be highly appreciated.

Apologies for my earlier post. I thought it best to get your attention before you did something too brash and killed stuff.

The old 1Z0 units are very flaky, so don't play about too much. If the Maxidot was working and then suddenly stopped, then something odd is going on. As you suggest, it might be hardware related but not sure what. In any case, 40** firmware is okay, but if you really feel the need then 5238 is a catch all firmware. Where are you downloading your images from (don't link to it as some content is removed by moderators) as there's a few places, and some better than others. Some places are even hosting US based firmwares which would not be good to use.

Can't remember exact the web site but rns firmware or my-gti. The 2 websites sugested on this topic.

Also maybe you can answar something for me. The ilumination on the buttons onky work when the nav is booting up. After i take the key from the ignition the nav is not powring off(i'm worid about batery drain) and when i revers the volume dosn't go down so i can hear the parking sensors beep. On a old octavia with the stream unit i had the opsion to adjust the voluem for pdc when i hit reverse.

Is there . Diferance betwen 4020 and 4024?

Update report. Just upgrade to 5238 with succes and i have the proof for it. Special thanks to rusty.

After that I used the skoda fix but that didn't solve the mfsw problem so will have to pay a visit to devonutopia vir a vcds scan and maybe coding.

I still have question maybe somebody else can give me a answer. After i power ont the unit the lights on the buttons stay lit for 2 secinds max after that they turn off. So...

And dose anyone know how to make the audio volume go down when you reverse?

Once again thank you all.

I'm new here but it good to se all these people that are willing to help someone in need.

Right, that sounds like either a wiring issue or a canbus issue. The quadloc connector in the back isn't loose or have any loose wires, has it? Button illumination is through the can system and the two can wires are terminals 9 & 10 on the connector in the Quadloc. There's a wiring diagram on top of the unit so you can see what's what.

With the help of Andy aka Rustynuts. Now got V13 maps on my Columbus. After a stop start day yesterday left over night. Put disc back in today. It carried on where it left off and was done in 10 minutes.

With the speed cameras can you get an audible alert like you do on a portable sat nav?

No. Just an icon on the screen.

You can but it's a pain....... I use the PGPSW Cameralert iPhone app which then gives audible alerts for approaching speed cameras via the hands free Bluetooth connection...... As I also use the PGPSW speed camera POIs these tally up and therefore I get visual and audible indication of cameras. ;)

I am on SW 5238 Map 7918.

Dealer quoted £120 + VAT for the update DVD....he said to Version 11.

I think I will spend it on new tyres which are more important.

Well, you're currently on V9 so V11 would be a bit of an update, but still not current V13. Tyres are much more important though.

Last week the dealer said V11 was the latest for my RNS 510. What is the SW number for 13.
