Guide: Upgrading Columbus firmware and maps

Featured Replies

Usually then, this is caused by a failing hard drive. All the maps and language files are stored on the hard drive, and if it loses integrity then all sorts of issues relating to maps etc. are possible.

Nooooo

I dont believe it tho to be fair as only happened after a fireware update!

Maybe Il try and just change the hdd? Anyone else had this issue?

I've not had it personally, but I've heard others having the issue.

I have a few hard drives sitting here if you want one.

Cheers buddy. Any guides on changing? Will anyone fit in a C unit? Got one that fits in a C unit? Where you based? At the Donnington show on Saturday?

Ive just been teading a few people who had this issue couldnt get it out of German till they put maps on. So I will try that. Car still in Warrenty too so might need resort to that.

It's a major strip down to get to the hard drive, Just about everything has to come apart. Any drive will fit, either a 30 or a 40Gb one, and I have some of each. I'm oop north though, and I won't be at Donnington I'm afraid.

hi guys, need a bit of advice

just bought a late 2010 superb with the Columbus and want to upgrade the firmware to allow 7 digit postcodes

I dont have a map disc with the car so need the newest maps afterwards I guess

Do I need to find out the current firmware first?

Thanks in advance guys

Always best to find out what you have before doing anything. Might just need a maps update.

Dear all

Loads of great information on here but must admint I'm a bit confused with all the variations.

i've just bought a 2012 Superb Elegance and part of the deal was that the Columbus systm would be fully updated but I'm pretty sure that has no been done. These are the details from the special menu.

Delivery part number 3T0035680C

HW:H60

SW: 3984

Map: West Europe

Map version: 7551

Could someone please be let me know what the latest versions should be.

Many thanks

Andy

If you're in Thailand then I don't know what maps version you should have over there.

The car came with West Europe maps in Thailand?!?!?! :o

Ah, sorry for the confusion guys, I've just moved back to the UK

I will report back with version and details and go from there, thanks guys

Thanks all!

Right I was having the stuck in German Issue, so Id like to share with you all why this happened on mine and how to solve.

I upgraded my firmware (to a few different versions) it was always in german and even setting it to English it would just stay with German.

I then decided Id put the V12 maps on even though I was in German and guess what, go into setup after and change to English with Maps 12 DVD in drive and it pulls Elish from the DVD and all good now!

Only problem now which I hope the great Rusty will know:

Im now on FW 2720 buddy and V12 maps but only have 4 or 5 digit postcodes not 7 digits, do I just need to go FW 4020 now and then put V12 maps back on to get 7 digits? My unit is a version C unit. ????

Thanks

All is good then, nice fix.

Reinstall your later firmware and reload maps, should be good to go with 7 digits.

Firmware isn't really that important, not much to be gained from updating there, but you should have V12 maps (8195) if it had been updated.

Thanks, I'll chase them up on that.

Just out of interest, do any of the upgrades give speed camera warnings?

The Columbus cannot give audible warnings by default although there is a sort of a workaround that I discovered using a third party phone app alongside a third party camera POI which uses the Bluetooth connection between your phone and the car to give the audible warnings. There are more details in my Superb II project thread.

So I have 7 digit postcode now with 4120. But steering wheel controls not working. Grrr

You'll need to recode the unit to tell it you have steering wheel controls.

Cheers buddy. Got a link? The one on rosstech site not clear

Your coding will depend on what options your car has. Have you got VCDS? And if so have you got a previous log of a full scan? If so, copy the long coding for the nav unit from the saved log and reapply it to the nav unit again, then "Do it". Then reset the unit by holding the left - right arrows and the Star button.

Should I consider myself lucky that mine updated to 4120 from 2*** firmware without needing any recoding for the MFSW when I updated firmware last year or is Bikerz unlucky?

It depends on which version of firmware you download and use. Factory firmwares wipe the whole machine meaning recoding is required, while dealer update discs update the unit but leave coding intact generally.

I got the 4120 firmware from myGTI last year.
