Featured Replies

Nope doesn't appear to be trying to copy the maps at all, is there a menu settings at all?  Map version 8195 is the version on the DVD, the version I want to install to the hard disk.  Nope purchased it from Poland,  what's with the Spanish ones then??

Just I've had a couple of people bought them from Spain and had issues. I just thought there was a pattern developing.

What version of maps are on the unit at the moment then, ignoring what's on the dvd.

Nothing, no maps installed on hard disk.

Have you been in touch with the seller? Sounds like the unit is faulty. At the very least there should be some maps installed on it as that's how they come from the factory.

Just out of interest.... Have you tried inserting the DVD without the key in the ignition etc.... That's how i update mine each time. It then can take up to a minute or two before it then asks if i want to copy the map data onto the Columbus. My unit is four years old so that might be why it takes a while etc.....

Worth a try?

Yup been in touch with the seller, he's going to send me the firmware disk to try reloading if that fails to work then he'll replace the unit.

Oooh that's an idea I'll try in the morning...

Thanks

I am on V11 and want to go to V12. Could someone PM me and point me in the right direction please?

Thanks

Real noob, anyone in the newcastle area can help me with updating firmware/maps and add the poi for the safety cameras

Did you have any joy?

You'll probably need to give a bit of info regarding what unit you have, what firmware you're running at the moment, and what version maps you're on.

Did you have any joy?

No, I'm afraid not, the unit works perfectly apart from it won't let me copy the maps to the hard disk, so strange!!  I've been in touch with the seller and a new unit is on its way as we speak...

At least a replacement is being sent then... Hope that one goes better for you. ;)

No idea what the map version is. I guess an upgrade is in order.

Oh and I don't have a map DVD.

Version 11 installed without any problems whatsoever - job done :)

Quick question - where do i enable the speed camera POI - I have the latest maps or is there something additional that needs installing??? I've looked through every menu (as far as I can tell) and can't seem to see an option for it anywhere...

It's an extra that can be had legally from GPS Underground (and other sites) and can be installed from SD card. Have a search on this forum for instructions.

That's an older unit. You will be best off with a version of 3810a or 4020 specifically for older units in order to avoid battery drain and to allow 7-digit postcodes.

'Adamal' on here is the expert on firmware for older units such as yours.

To be honest, the more posts I read in this thread the more I think bugger it.

I see all sorts of things disappearing (compass), steering wheel buttons not working etc...............

Can this page be used for new maps

No. That's just for the new MIB Columbus in the Mk3 Octavia, FL Yeti & Superbs.

Version 4020 60-35-5 downloaded and burnt onto a DVD. I just need new maps now.

If up to date camera locations are needed then the database at Pocket GPS world is updated weekly and also includes temporary cameras in roadworks etc.... There is a small annual fee but if you submit a new camera then you get a 12 month membership for free. (I'm not sure what the annual fee is as when i submitted cameras early on the freebie was life membership so i haven't paid anything for about 5 or 6 years now).

They are then installed exactly the same way as the ones you have. ;)

Nice one, I'll take a look! Is there any way to set up an audiable alert for imported POIs hence giving me a notification when I'm approaching a speed camera on the current road or is it simply a case of keeping an eye on the display?

Not by default..... There is a workaround i found though using an app that PGPSW do called CamerAlert whereby you have that running on your phone whilst connected to the car via BT... Then when you approach a camera you get an "incoming call" from your phone which is just the audible warning of the approaching camera.

The app is only available on android at present as they are having issues with Apple at present but they hope to have the app back on the Apple app store at some point though.

I don't use this method on a day to day basis and tend to only use it when on long journeys.

I'm still wary about updating FW after reading about problems in this thread . Will my BT module still work?

Bluetooth will still work fine. You just lose the presets
