HDD won't be highlighted because there's nothing on it to play. Once you've got music on it then it'll be selectable.

^^^ What he said!

Put an SD card with MP3's on and copy these to the HDD. Then you'll be good to go.

Thanks done it.

Hmm I've noticed a couple of times the Unit has changed from , for instance, Radio to Bluetooth Audio or Media to Aux by itself!

Has anyone got a dvd I could borrow with speed cameras and a dvd with the sticky maxidot fix? I don't have access to a PC or laptop

Sent from my Galaxy S5

Well, like I said I've upgraded to 4024 and quite frankly I wish I hadn't bothered. Now every time either an email, text or Facebook message comes through to
My iPhone the unit switches from played fom the HDD to Audio Bluetooth I have to press HDD to get it back to playing what it was!!!!!

I've not gained a lot by updating, new maps apart.

Updated to firmware 5270 with help from Camberley_Chris. Still to test Video in Motion. However I noticed improvement in performance of music streaming through bluetooth. Now it reads the commands, track change etc quicker.

I've looked back over this thread to see what version of Columbus you have, but can;t see anything from you previously.

Could you add what part number your Columbus was prior to any upgrading (and the SW / HW version if possible)?

Thanks.

Hi KBPhoto,

Here are the before and after version. And I noted that I forgot to mention that I updated the map version to V12 as well. Again with help from Camberley_Chris.   to Camberley_Chris

Thanks for that info. Very useful to know, but I suspect ha most people have the older units and can't go that far in the firmware stakes.

Has anyone got a good source for a map update v8195. for my 2013 L&K columbus DAB? I would happily pay for someone to upgrade for me as I am less than confident in my abilities! I'm in Herfordshire

Rustynuts is selling his disc in the for sale section....

Hi

I have asked this question before, but asked for the details of my unit and never got round to getting them.

I'm looking for Firmware and map update for my columbus to the latest version I can use (with video in motion if possible).

My unit details are as follows

Delivery part number 3T0035680C

HM-Version H55

SW-Version 3984

Active map West Europe

Active map supplier Navteq

Map version HDD 7551

I have SD cards to download the software onto, I just need a idiots guide on how to do it

You won't gain much by upgrading the firmware (except VIM). If you want to, there are links on the 'My Gti' website. Look for 4020 unless you really want radio text then look for 4120.

There's nothing of benefit to you beyond that.

As for maps, I'd need to check what version you are on before saying anything else.

Instructions for SD card installation have been linked to from this forum many times: search for threads and you'll see people have had mixed successes. I think you still need a CD to get the process started though... Might be wrong.

Flimsysquid, your maps are only v7.2 (7551) and most of us are now using v13 (8552).

I haven't tried updating via SD card yet and instead burn DL DVDs which are then just posted into the slot and left for about 50 minutes.

KBPhoto is correct as usual in that there is little to gain by updating the firmware from 3984 (which is much more risky than updating maps) although I'm currently running on 5274.

Your best bet is to find a local friend to assist you as the first time you do anything to a Columbus you scare yourself stiff.

Ok many thanks. I will leave the firmware and try maps only.

Guys, I am on v11 maps, is there anything to gain by upgrading to v13 or leave as is?

Thanks in advance.

Have there been any major road layout changes in your area in the past two-three years?

If not, then no real point in upgrading the maps.

Not really Karl, the new roads round Birmingham airport appear in this version so they are fairly new.

I think I'll leave as is for now then!

Are V13 maps now out? I hadn't noticed anything newer than V12 (8195) for Western Europe on the RNS510.

I've lost track, but VW dealers always seem to be ahead of Skoda in this.

Obviously if you can get maps for free, then get them upgraded. If you are paying, then weigh up whether it's worth it or not based upon how many roads you drive that are not on your current version.

V13 maps are not available yet for the Columbus (or the VW RNS510), and when they are available they'll be 8285, not 8552.

Hi,

I'm having a trouble updating firmware!

I had the following:-

Part Number: 3T0035680E

HW: H61

SW: 3984

MAPS: 8195

I tried to update the firmware to from the links on the first page to 5274.  Looking through this thread, its the closet I could find to 5270.  This firmware though was for DAB and my unit isn't.  This is where everything went wrong.

I then downloaded 4120 and tried to install that but I keep on getting error 010302 and the update fails.

I have downloaded the RNS recovery software and have sucessfully installed that and am currently trying again with the 4120 update.

Has anyone else had similar issues or have i really messed it up?

Thanks for any advice you can offer

Mark

Probably a bad burn, they are really fussy about firmware discs and I made quite a few coasters updating mine to 5274.

I still haven't managed to get it to take an alternative boot logo either...
