New Golf R

Just read, cannot disagree the R is just plain great at everything where some of the others excel in some areas but this can then make the R a bit boring but IMO it is an awesome all-round total package!

it is just that.

if it was louder, shoutier and not as smooth.. itd be called down in other areas than 'boring'

you cant get everything.

its all about personal taste. i like the R, its great.. but it is abit quiet for me. To me things feel more exciting if they shout, bark and bite when you plant it.

but im still young..

If it had a six pot under the bonnet or a V6/5 it would be heaven for me :)

Even though we know that Chris Harris is BMW 6 pot man, it is interesting to hear his views on the comparative motors in these applications.

That is why there are different models of vehicles and a choice of styles, otherwise ever manufacturer could just make their cars look the same year after year & model after model like, VW, Audi, & Porsche designers do.

Thankfully when driving great cars its not really necessary to be looking at your self in shop windows.

Tom, did you read the whole article of the long term,I mentioned at the time that imo it was pretty crap, and so did other in the review/comments section

It's a shame that you never got to have a test drive in the Golf R and get the real hands on comparison Tom.

May be sometime you can compare it with Cooper S JCW. That would be interesting around local country roads.

Not sure if I've read that or not, probably have if you've linked it before :-)

Yeah shame I didn't get to drive one, I will make some time to do so soon. Fabia will be replaced at some point towards the end of 2016 and the R will be on a list of potential successors no doubt lol ;-) Although I might just be tempted with another M135i haha, or even M140i if it's released by then.

Following an R earlier. They seem to be loads around here.

It wasn't slow i must say.. overtakes seemed fairly brisk.

Couldn't help myself but to open up past it though. Didn't want him going home and telling his mates its quicker than a bike, did i :D

Nice motor though. Do they do a performance exhaust for them? to make em abit.. uhh.. louder?
