I quite like hearing them all compared to eachother tbh.

Aha (:

Is the dealership doing a special warranty for you then, as I thought that tuning beyond standard was an VAG (Seat) warranty no-no.

No. Any mods are as ever at your own risk.

You could always change the title to the "Golf R & Friends" thread. :D

Quite a bit of super-hatch info on here now.

Bloody R Estate has ben fully confirmed now as in the press....................

Bugger................... :envy: .......................

TBH..............having driven my mates MK4R32 down back roads I know, I was only getting 5 to 10mph more through the bends (4wd mainly) than what I can in my Fabia.............so the extra total weight, extra nose weight, extra fuel consumption, isn't really worth it for me.

I am planning a ABT remap for my golf estate though................ :sun: ..........................but would like the double U LED/DRL from the R as I only get the single U!

I think the R estate will eat into the Audi market a bit...............also will eat into the VRS Octi market IMO

Unlikely surely, given the price delta. It's pretty huge! Now a fully loaded Leon Cupra R estate for sub £30k might shake things up a bit...

I just wish these manufacturers would stop putting such temptation in front of us.  :envy:

Life's expensive enough as it is without some fancy VAG / BMW / Merc product hoving seductively into view (particularly when draped in some cheapish PCP / finance offer).

How can any of us be satisfied with our automotive lot??

I'm going to have to learn to avert my eyes!  :peek:

Look at it this way..................want a fast estate from VAG (MQB size).................options are VRS Octi, Leon FR, Audi A4.................& VW GT which has 140ps as the top petrol engine!

A 2lt with 4wd & the whole driver experience that is the R with a better weight balance that the estate has will tempt those who bought an Octi to spend a bit more (those who can)......& those who can't afford the Audi to save a bit more!

Is it getting put back to standard before it goes into the Dealer,

or are you letting them know so that they can let a new owner have the choice ot they can put a standard MAP on,?

because the Remap can mean them having invalid insurance if the car & ECU ever needs examined,

It happens that a driver can have their claim rejected for an undeclared Remap.

Yes, the original factory map will be installed for the reasons you mention, and because I can then either use the STS for the Cupra or sell it on.

There is definitely space for it, that's why Ford have a Focus ST estate. I'm not sure about the can't afford Audi so buy a VW, or even a Skoda. I think people mostly find a way to buy what they want, and it's the value that we each perceive in the brand that influences that choice. I suspect that most Skoda customers choose the brand deliberately, and not because it's an affordable cheap Audi. Maybe some do, but it's probably a small minority. VAG are extremely smart in their modular approach to the branding differentiation, both in terms of powertrains (especially) and interiors.

I'm just pleased to find out that the Cupra 280 has an identical powertrain to the S3 and R, up to the DSG bit anyway; which means it will handle at least a 20bhp gain without worry whatsoever.

Contacted my Local friendly VW sales guy today for more info on Golf R Estate-he will update me to the best of his knowledge after his visit to Greece next week for the New Passat launch.

He also told me that they will have a Polo GTI in there demo fleet in February 2015,so that will be an interesting comparison drive to my Partners Fabia vRS.

Chasing him for whatever snippets he can throw my way on the Golf R400.

Thanks George, are you the robot speaking?

Got to start saving my pennies for 2016 me thinks - or do a Boss and put down a holding deposit now!

Very nice!

Still not a fan of the wheels on the R's though.

Is the R400 hatch conformed yet Keith or is it still a concept?

Full confirmation net yet given by Director level at VW but enough senior managers have indicated that it will be announced at one of the motor shows in 2015 with production in 2016.

Not sure if it will be a limited production run, for sporting reason and hence that may limit it to say 3dr.

Power output is being suggested / hinted at above 410 bhp by VW staff.

If it's a limited production run I'd definitely be interested as I'd imagine it would keep its value rock solid. Just look at the values of used 1Ms!!!

Furbytom,

Is your M135i,  dealer retail price, still above what you paid for it ,if you compare similar mileage  / age on the forecourt currently(2nd hand/ demo). That's probably not worded very clearly.

Does that make sense mate?
