  • For 23k I'd be in a Cayman.  Not a bleeding Polo.

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

Audi appear to me, to be behind the 8 Ball, relative to VW with the Hot Hatch launches. ( MB A45 AMG also)

Golf R mk7 released in UK March 2014 approx. Audi S3 Latest model Sept 2014.

RS3 Late 2015 estimated by mags.

Golf R400 will it be in UK by mid 2016, Estimated, with 90% already known to punters - wetting their appetite, well mine anyway.

Furbytom,

Is your M135i,  dealer retail price, still above what you paid for it ,if you compare similar mileage  / age on the forecourt currently(2nd hand/ demo). That's probably not worded very clearly.

Does that make sense mate?

Not sure Keith I haven't had a good search tbh but it's fair to say there are quite a few nearly new and demos for sale at sticker prices higher than what you would pay for a new one with discount.

Nice might replace S3 :)

Black wheels now on the Octy mate

Kenny,

Good to hear from you again. How is the S3 going?

PM me with photo of the Octavia new look.

Cheers.

Keith

Will do mate. :)

S3 is going really well mate. Need to admit it's just so effortless to go quickly and a great all rounder as I'm sure your finding out with your R :)

I am guessing the discussions have been around the latest Golf R on this thread. Has anyone had any experiance of the mk6 I believe 270 BHP version?

I have driven them but not owned them or lived with one.

Nice, enjoyable, a part time AWD Golf, a bit thirsty and needed more power.   the MK7 is just so much better and nicer.

I note in the VW they still retain quite a high residual price.

I've seen in the VW WEBSITE a number of 10000-30000 mileage ones in good condition advertised at £22000 - £27000.

There are a number of reviews TG,Autocar,Autoexpress,EVO.

Do a GOOGLE SEARCH FOR mk6 and you will find comments by owners.

Considering you can get a new one for £29k that price is mad.  IMO.

It was mainly out of curiosity really as the thread is about Golf R's and I had only seen the mk7 mentioned.

Have really only seen the mk7 marketed as well with regards to the big motoring magazines etc. the mk6 just didn't get the same publicity.

Ummmmm, I want! (Or rather SWMBO does, she just hasn't fully realised this yet)

Tom,

Is this some healthy competition for the Golf R Estate .

Or  will it be for the Golf R400 Estate - who knows.

Why aren't BMW bringing out a M235i Touring to give some healthy competition also?

Umm not sure about that shooting brake thingy, I like the idea but that boot looks woefully impractical with that huge slope on it.

I don't think BMW are interested in making anything to rival that. There will be an M2 released soon to cover the small hyper-coupe market and for those who feel the M4 too big and too expensive, but no small fast estate. BMW have gone in a different direction with the family-spec 2-series Active Tourer being FWD and not performance-orientated which is fair enough.

Plenty of BMW enthusiasts would be horrified by a Golf R estate equivalent I think. Estate, Auto, 4WD, 4-pot, turbo..... Not exactly the classical 'ultimate driving machine' lol....

The MINI 5 door AWD will be coming  along soon probably. (Lets forget the Eliflumps of Countryman-Paceman's)

there are already are BMW Series 1 XDrives,  so a Practical / Small XDrive Estate is quite possible.

I'm sure it possible but I've not heard of any 1-series estate in the pipeline unfortunately.

I very much like the look of the BMW 3-Series Touring, & there are discounts to be had on the X-Drives.

I see a fair few around and to me they look like just right.

Quite mean really.

335d x-drive came with huge discounts recently circa 10k iirc. Lovely motors!

I was tempted by an M235i. So much better looking than a 1, and nothing sounds like that straight six of course. Ultimately it's about £££ value, buying one would have meant nothing for SWMBO. No issues, M2 will replace the Cupra in 3 years time.

Better get saving then ;-)

Damn right!

I feel sure BMW will also address this area of the market to compete more directly over the coming 12 months.

Ford will also be in there with the Focus ST Estate.

Vauxhall?

Jaguar with the smaller model 2015./ 3 series competition - Might be interested in that!

Vauxhall will no doubt do a astra vxr sports tourer at some point

Vauxhalls just dont interest me tbh. Always think they look abit crap, n just generally not that good cars.

If it came between a vxr and a GTI, i wouldnt even need to think about it

Is it just me?

The VXR8 is the only one that grips me.
