I didn't know it could do that!

Am I now draining my Skoda battery? How long could the dashboard cam stay running before my Skoda is out of battery?

I don't know if Skoda uses the same power management as VW, but my past three VW's have had battery power management, meaning it will cut off power consuming features always leaving enough power to start the car (hopefully!!!), including the 12v power outlets. If any aftermarket systems have been fitted which are connected directly thereby bypassing the cars intelligent power management the battery will eventually go flat.

Think this is for somewhere else... but since its here, there is no power management that cuts out the 12v sockets, the battery will go flat if things are left plugged in for to long. I left a fridge plugged in overnight and completely flattened my battery. Dashcam's are not likely to use very much power though, especially if turned off, so i'd imagine it could be left plugged in for at least 24 hours without issue, maybe longer. Just listen to how the starter motor sounds when you next start the car, if it sounds fine, then you could leave it for longer, if its starting to struggle, then you've reached your limit

Just found out that KESSY checks for the keys when a passenger opens the door.

IE: The girlfriend had the keys in her pocket, opened the car and got in the passenger seat. I got in the car about 5 minutes later and pressed the start button. Got to the destination and she got out (engine still running) and she started walking away from the car and within 5 - 10 seconds an alert flashed up on the dash to say the key was missing. Not sure if it checks constantly or only when a door is opened etc but it's just saved me the embarrassment of not being able to lock the car when I got to work and then not being able to leave.

Like the door auto-lock function. Extra security against car jacking. From the inside any door handle unlocks all doors.

Some nice touches in the Columbus navigation :

1. Split screen set to "map" zoom with the main map showing the full journey to destination.

2. On demand navigation announcement with a push on the right steering button in MaxiDOT navigation view.

3. "Street name" local language pronunciation , i.e. in French with rest of instructions in English. Very annoying to listen to French road names pronounced in English with other GPS.

I found just yesterday that when viewing the navigation screen in the maxi dot with no destination set and the compass showing, if you scroll the right thumb wheel it let's you set your home and recent destinations !

I stalled for the first time last week and it restarted automatically which impressed me.

I'm sorry, but what do you mean exactly by that?

Did ACC stop your car in traffic, and started it back when the car in front of you moved away?

If you stall the car, just dip the clutch and it will restart automatically for you. No need to flap about turning the key etc.

I noticed the auto restart from stall on my first test drive from the dealers   .... not sure if it works with stop/start disabled or not though .... I tend to turn it off if I remember too, 'cos I don't like it although auto restart on stall is handy.

I think its better for the engine to keep running at traffic lights etc, but that's just me :p

It doesn't work if the stop/start is disabled, you just get a message on the screen telling you that the stop/start is disabled and you either have to re-enable the stop/start and depress the clutch, or dip the clutch and turn the key(how very old school!) to get it going again.....had me flapping for a second when it did it to me!

Ah well that clears that up then, thanks :)

Indeed... KESSY FTW!

Going from a Petrol to a Diesel....this restart method has been used many times

Well..just driven for 2 and a half hours..probably the longest journey so far..I didnt know my right ankle could ache so much! Miss the right foot rest that my mk2 had :-(

Does anyone know if there is some way to close the boot on combi remotly from the key. Would have been a good feature.

If you have the electric tailgate option it can be coded with VCDS, I've had mine done, it's bloody great!

Dealers don't have VCDS. I suspect VAG are worried about it being closed on people's heads and that's why it's not standard, I've also had the warning beeps switched off.

I found a little button under the rear view mirror which automatically dims when bright lights are behind AND dims the side mirrors. WHAT IS THIS VOODOO MAGIC?

On return from holiday and given the car a good hoover and wash as thank you I discovered that the VBF has lugs to allow you to store the load cover out the way under the floor.

If only we'd known that before the boot maxing camping holiday............

That's pretty smart.

You can also store roof rails under there, but also, the VBF will fold down flat to give extra height in the boot.

The rear arm rest splits to reveal cup holder's!
