What do you listen to in the car...

Recommended Posts

A wide variety of things.

Local radio (Forth One in the morning with Boogie), Radio 2, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Tiesto, Elbow, Mumford & Sons, Proclaimers, Deacon Blue- the list goes on.

Not sure what anyone would think if they analysed my choices.

Hopefully my next car will have DAB so I can listen to the likes of Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop on Planet Rock and 6 Music respectively. In the mean time it is Radio 2 but not Miss Feltz or Mr Evans.

Been listening to the weird but gorgeous Kate Bush on CD recently.

Not that I know my classical but lots of Bach, Mozart, medieval music from France and Spain (NOT chanting monks [emoji2] ), the 80's BBC radio version of Lord of the Rings, Simple Minds and lots of the closing tracks from Person of Interest eg Cat Power, The XX, Mogwai and UNKLE.

Odd things I'd never heard of. My Lumia phone has a free music option but it's a bit random, you give it some bands and it gives out a download of about 25 tracks it thinks are in a similar style.

Started off with Ministry, Korn and moved on to Seether, American Head Charge, Static-X, Primer 55, Spineshank, Dope, Soil.

Puts out a lot of crap but you do get the occasional gem. I never listened to such heavy stuff in me yoof.

Nokia do seem to have a  fetish for Limp Bizkit (who I hate) and Slipknot (who I just can't get into). They keep coming up.over and over.

I use the rdio app on my phone. It can create stations around artists you like, and it pretty good at picking out stuff you'll like once you've added enough music to your collection... I think it's available for windows phone, as well as the usual suspects...

http://www.rdio.com/

You can link it to http://www.last.fm too, which is also really good for finding new music, whatever you may be into.

As for what I listen to, it depends if I'm alone in the car or not. If I am, I have a tendency to lean towards black metal (Triptykon, Satyricon, Enslaved, 1349, Akercocke etc) or post rock/post metal (65daysofstatic, Burst, Russian Circles, El Ten Eleven, Red Sparowes etc) and the occasional bit of stoner rock (Electric Wizard, Cathedral, Candlemass, Black Moth etc).

Saying that, this never ceases to cheer me up if having a bad day/stuck in traffic... http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Down+With+The+Sickness+radio+Edit/3Vci92?src=5

If I have passengers, I'll normally choose something more sedate

Anything other than Chris Evans.

.. and yet, every time they replace him when he's on holiday, you realise how good he is and long for his holiday to be over ... currently it's Sarah Cox :(

Each to their own, but he's about as polar opposite to my personal taste as you can get.

Recently, Paramore! Some of the event shots from the Reading and Leeds festivals caught my eye so I watched some of their set on BBC telly.

Also recently in the CDC:

Funeral for a Friend

Gorrillaz

The Donnas

Jeff Healey Band

Terrorvision

J.

Might be unlikely, but these weren't some of the shots that caught you eye were they?

Might have been :p .... Not so much the bass player though or the one that makes her look deranged.

Add to previous car CDC list K T Tunstall....
