I wouldn't have paid more than 23k for my 2.0 Elegance estate and was only really the 0% deal that swung it for me. Certainly used values for the Mk3 aren't particularly great (as lots are being bought and sold into the used programme 6 - 9 months on by the hire companies).....unless I was buying one to keep for a long time I wouldn't want to do my nuts on a £27k L&K that's going to be worth little more than a standard Elegance in the trade in 3 years time which isn't going to be worth much anyway.

Disagree with you that the Elegance and L&K have similar used values - having bought a used L&K as my last car they were like hens teeth to find and fetching a significant premium over an Elegance, and when I sold it on 3 years later it fetched quite a bit more than an Elegance. The L&K will always have the rarity factor, and a well looked after used one will always attract a premium and sell very quickly.

I'm sorry Andy, agree to disagree I think. I think it's still fair that paying near 30k for an L&K, whilst I won't argue an L&K would likely sit on a dealer forecourt for a "bit" more money than a similar age/mileage Elegance, it's still going to cost you quite a bit more money in depreciation over the 3 year period, I don't think the extra money you'd get back from a dealer would balance the much bigger list price paid for one.

selling privately to someone in the market for that very car or a L&K enthusiast there's a possible opportunity but I don't think you'd do amazingly well out of it selling to a dealer.

Main reason being is they are v expensive for an Octavia and as a consequence only appeal to a limited audience; still somewhat the case as a used vehicle too.

Not saying I'm 100%, just my opinion.

When I bought my used L&K a diesel DSG estate was £2k more than a diesel DSG Elegance estate. There was never more than 2 or 3 available on Autotrader in the whole of the UK and they were selling in a matter of weeks. You get a lot more for the money, Xenons being the big difference. If you add Xenons to an Elegance you won't get any of that money back when you trade it in, at least with the L&K you will get some of it back as it is standard. I agree that it will depreciate more, but in terms of %age I would expect it to be about the same.

If the new one is as good as I hope it will be with all the toys I am likely to keep it longer than the PCP anyway, especially as I have a 100k 5 year warranty, so by the time I have finished with it it will probably become a second car for the missus and I'll be looking at Superb 3's or Octavia 4's :)

No v true, it depends one ones priorities though I guess.

When I bought my MK3, I just got a standard Elegance with nothing but a spare wheel as for me it represented the best spec'd car for the smallest outlay; I also don't subscribe to loading options onto a car as it's largely dead money and I don't tend to keep cars v long so whilst cars are a bit of a mugs game anyway (and we'd be foolish to think otherwise) I want to keep financial loss to a minimum....I was a bit insulted having to pay for the spare wheel actually :-)

I do agree a standard L&K no doubt represents better value for money than a similar spec Elegance but only if you're wanting all the extra kit.

I wouldn't do without Xenons for starters and ACC and FA were the big selling point of the L&K for me, otherwise I would have probably fully loaded a vRS.

Park Assist I can live without - I've managed to park cars for 30 years without needing it!

I really missed the dimming wing mirrors and electric seats from the O2 L&K, and I would have specced Canton anyway as I have it now.

Don't get me wrong Andy, I love all the tech I guess I'm just a tightwad and won't pay for it!! :-)

The xenons do improve the look of the car as well as being world's better than the standard halogens....just given the Elegance came with high beam assist (which is quite a nice standard feature that works reasonably well) I felt even less of a need for them.

The one thing I massively regret not having now is Canton. I had a change of heart once I ordered it and asked my dealer if I could add it...Unfortunately my build was locked and I was unable too...I just thought oh well....400 quid saved.

sadly the standard audio is v poor indeed and is something that does really spoil the car for me as I like my music to sound full and play it quite loud.....The standard system doesn't really cut the mustard as to get the fullness you really have to jack the bass and mid up...but by doing so it limits the volume output of the system. Do the reverse it goes quite loud but just sounds tinny.

given your VCDS prowess I'd love it if you could find out of there is some kind of volume regulation coding on the system...something perhaps configured to reduce door trim rattles/blown woofers? Could it be the case or is it just how the head unit and amplification has been configured in the unit?

Not found anything to tweak for sound profiles yet, but if you add an underseat sub it should help :)

Had there been more engine choice on the L&K I'd have seriously looked at one. I've gone for a 1.4 dsg elegance as I only do a few miles a day, if I did a regular motorway commute or travelled on business more then a tdi L&K would be perfect. I do intend to keep it for several years though so I've added a lot of toys and from what I've read on Briskoda I'm glad I added canton, Columbus and the extra warranty. Ordered mid September so it will be 2015 for me.

Confirmed as locked in - BW42 Code 20 - next week!

Hi andyvee,

Good news that your build week has been confirmed as BW42 code 20.

You explained to me about build weeks but what does code 20 describe ?

Means it is now locked in so will actually happen!

Can't remember the correct term dealer used today in the phone call, but car is loaded for shipping, should have by month end!

You won't be disappointed in the 1.4 DSG, I've just done a round trip to Kent with four up and a very full boot, 750 miles, two fillups, one gave 51 mpg, the other 47.67. 49.5mpg overall.

I'm really looking forward to it - can't come quick enough though! I'd be happy with those mpg figures :)

Last petrol I owned was a lovely A4 2.4 V6 - so smooth and effortless. I'd be lucky to get high 30s on a long run and was all too easy to get below 20!

philwoodphoto - Just like my Saab 9-5 2.3t. 220 bhp. Went like the clappers and drank like a fish.

The 1.4 TSI can be very frugal but, can also be a whole boot-full of fun the choice is yours, my fuelly sig kinda gives the game away for me but, in Elegance spec, its a real nice place to be, silky smooth too well, when the wife's in the car.

:D

I'm already thinking of excuses to 'pop out' in it. Fetching a pint of milk and a loaf of bread might take an hour ;)

And it now exists! Code 30, built, left the factory and on its way to Emden - hopefully on my drive in 3 weeks or so  :)

Great ! I have been using your build date as the barometer for my L&K.

I am hoping that my car ordered 4 weeks after yours will be good news for me shortly.

Look forward to seeing your photos when ready. I am particularly interested in the rear view camera picture on the Columbus plus the 20 or so others you will take.

All this talk of new cars, got me thinking, this seems a bargain at £16.5k...

...wonder what they would offer against it for my MY13 stealth L&K?? Highest mileage OctyIII 150CR Man currently on Skoda used car site is 10k less miles than mine but also only standard spec Eleg for £16k, average mileage seems to push up to £17k, if I could get £15k for mine, I'd be seriously tempted!

A MkIIFL Berb would tie me over nicely until I could get a MkIII

Bit off thread I know but I'm kinda with you there Matt.

I fully accept that it's the outgoing shape and prices are reflecting that but I can pick up a good second user Berb DSG estate with loads of toys and stuff for a fraction of the cost of mine, does make you wonder...

Yeah, sorry to go off topic, been having some banter off-line with Andy over residual values of mine and my conclusion is I probably need to stick to original plan at the mo to keep the Octy for at least 3 yrs but might have another look at FL Berb values once they bring out the MkIII cos I reckon they going to drop a bit more yet.

How long do they take to build?

That seems a little bit too quick. At least that explains why the paint job doesnt seem very good on the Octy

A couple of days max, same as it has always been including the Mk II. It isn't a hand built rolls Royce, it's a mass produced car!
