Can anyone tell me whether the ASR and heater rear window switches on my VRs are normal on/off switches, or are the momentary actions which switch the circuits via relays? I want to fit an extra one to control an accessory - if they are on/off switches this would work. Also what sort of amps could they handle?

The ASR is momentary press, as is the screen heater I believe. They both tell the ECU via a software switch to activate / deactivate functions via relay.

I maybe wrong with the heated rear screen, depends on if it switches itself off after a certain time.

Pretty sure the rear screen does switch itself off after 10 mins.

So given that they are just telling a computer what to do, the current carrying ability is likely to be very low.

I've had the same idea as you and got a heated window button from the scrappy last week!

 

I've just looked quickly today and its got 5 wires from the plug - there is 2 wires on a non-latched normally open switch and the rest have no circuit whether pressed or not. I would have thought there'd be at least a few ohms between 2 for the LED - could it be blown or is it just beyond my small electronics knowledge? lol
