aftermarket wheels thread

Featured Replies

Thanks for your quick answers and helps.. After all I decided to buy those wheels. That set was on audi S3 and 3000km rolled. Price for that set was so ridicilous and that's why I was in a kind of hurry. I'll give some teaser pics as soon I get those in my hands =)

Really fancy a set of these 18 8J ET41 for my O3

Not sure if I'd get away with R18/40/245's, commments, experience & thoughts all welcome

The standard 225/40 18s will fit on the 8" just fine. 225/235 is the sweetspot for 8"wheels anyway. That way you would keep standard Octavia tyres and have no speedo error issues

To keep the same rolling radius at 35 profile you would have to go up to 255 which is probably a bit too wide

Standard VW fit for those size wheels is 235/40 which would give you 1-2% speedo error

Ok I was slightly wrong, according to www.willtheyfit.com

Thanks for website but, the rims are only 8" so, I think I'll go with the R18/40/245 on this data

Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 1.7mm further away from the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 14.4mm more than before.

Wheel Fitment Guide

The strut shown in the diagram is for show only. Don't worry if the wheel looks like it fouls!

Bear in mind most tyre manufacturers vary slighty from the specs, and that it could be dangerous to run tyres on wheels they aren't designed to fit.

Here's a little peek for summer :)

@anttihotari remember to put some pics up when you get them under the car ;)

Just tried those 19" on my car. The real size was 8,5Jx19 et40. That wasn't so bad thing after all.. It sat guite nicely and on those pictures there is even 10mm spacer. With a little drop I think it works nicely with the arch.. Also installed hood dampers, rear mudflaps, black mirror covers and those sexy thule roof racks for Easter ski trip in Lapland :)

Hello. How do you like the ATS wheels ?

I want to buy a set of ATS Street race on 18x8 ET43.  Does wheels feel lighter then the oem wheels ?

Looks good, did you test fit the front?

No I didn't. Because the fitment was so "easy" on rear I think the front will go as well. I'm gonna put the whole set of those next week to see how it goes.

Anyone got any pictures of Revo 19 inch gloss bronze or gloss black alloys on a race blue estate? Thinking of changing the 18 inch Vrs alloys currently on my car B)

This sort of thing? Not Revo but bronze 19"s on race blue...

Also thinking about Bola CSR matt or satin black? 18" rims, Just out of interest & for my knowledge! what would be the best or correct PCD etc of the wheels, is it 5x112 et40? 18" I currently have are 225 40 18, what would be the best tyre size also for 19" rims? & width to go for in either 18" or 19" without any speedo issues. B)

Not looking to put on any rings etc over the hubs, want a straight fit/bolt on.

Thanks

IMHO, best options are as follows in terms of wheelarch 'flushness' and speedo accuracy (it will change but still acceptable):

18x8 ET42 235/40/18

19x8 ET42 235/35/19

OEM is 18x7.5 ET51 or 19x7.5 ET51 I think, and tyres 225/40/18 or 225/35/19

PCD (bolt pattern) is 5x112mm and centre bore 57.1mm

None of the sizes above would need spacers as they will poke approx 15mm more than standard due to extra wheel width and altered offset.

Edit to add: these calculations are based on pre FL, the FL has a wider track, not sure yet if it's due to a change in offset or mechanical changes.

Don't forget some aftermarket wheels require conical seated bolts rather than spherical as per OEM. And if you have a spare, ensure you carry the correct bolts for it in the car!

Add pre FL disclaimer :)

Thanks pist0nbr0ke  for the info B) I'm lost when it comes to alloy wheel jargon/lingo :giggle: definitely want to change the wheels so 8" width I think will be ideal (front & rear) just got to decide 18" or 19".

Anyone know if 8x18" ET30 wheels would fit with no problem or will it be too tight at front cause of ET only 30? Thinking about buying MAM A1 wheels for my vrs but they are ET30 only.

I'm guessing it should be ok as 8,5x18 (or 19) ET35 seems to be fine --> 8x18 ET30 will poke out only 5mm more (according to willtheyfit.com). It's quite a huge change comparing to original 7,5x17 ET51 though.

Found those MAM A1' 8x18 ET42. Guess that would be a more safe fit than ET30...? And perhaps better handling comfort as well.

Compared to original 7,5x17 ET51:

Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 2.7mm further away from the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 15.4mm more than before.

I have 18x8 ET 42 (Niche Targa in gunmetal grey) on my 2014 vRS and they fit fine - front wheels are almost flush with the line of the guard (maybe 1-2mm inside the line), while the rear wheels are maybe 4-6mm inside the line of the guard.  ET 30 would be quite big I think - the rim would sit well proud of the line of guard.  Mind you, some like that look, so each to their own.
