Yeah for me remembering to turn bluetooh on and more importantly turn it off again was never going to happen.

 

The app is called Tasker, it's a bit of a faff to set up but once done you can do pretty much anything you want, turn anything on/off based on anything else. I have it just turn bluetooth on when charging, but if you didn't want it on when charging elsewhere then you can use some other criteria. Having an NFC tag in the car would work for example, tasker could turn on bluetooth when phone senses it. You could even turn bluetooth on when moving over a certain speed or something like that, that one although awesome would kill the battery though!

I just leave the bluetooth turned on but, then I don't keep porn on my phone or do any on-line banking either ! Just too middle aged I guess

Used to have a full blown Brodit setup but ditched that when I had the Parrot kit installed. Have started to put mine on the ashtray lid as I have a USB charger in the cigarette lighter.

 

For times when I need to see the phone - then I use a Breffo Spiderpodium

I've got a Brodit mount in front of the central air vents, usually running Waze sat nav on my phone.

Phone (Lumia 930) slips neatly under the handbrake - doesn't slide anywhere and if i do have to charge it the 12v power supply is right there.

My Belkin car cup mount finally arrived today. Fits like a glove and keeps my phone nicely within reach. Much nicer than the standard Skoda "simply clever" holder that keeps my phone upside down when plugged in.

On top of my dash in centre on a gel pad. Phone on Bluetooth, I have a power lead running up to and clipped to the air vent.If I need to use my co-pilot I have a small window suction mount.

This holds both my wife's modest iPhone 5 and my monstrous iPhone 6+ securely. Also means any new phones are going to fit.

I also use their tilt/swivel adapter and this is bolted to a Brodit centre-vent bracket. Works well. Perfect position - phone calls, spotify etc. Very secure.

For some years I've used Brodit cradles for my phones and my wife's, but mounted on mounting brackets from Dashmount.  The cradles are of course specific to the phones and the brackets are designed specifically for each car.  The cradle easily bolts onto the bracket and can be angled to suit or even rotated to a landscape orientation.  The Octovia III bracket from Dashmount fits neatly between between the Infotainment system and the surrounding dash - I bought the bracket and got my dealer to fit it for me, for which they didn't charge me.

 

The phone is stable and at a good position to see easily - important to me as I use Google Navigation on it instead of a dedicated SatNav.

That looks pretty neat and tidy, especially as it'll be close to cigaret lighter for charging but I'd imagine it suits a lhd car more as its abit farther from driver seat than it would be in a rhd car. Also not sure whether it would get in the way of gear changes, again probably not too bad when you have a dsg vs a manual car..

I don't use the 12 V outlet for charging though, I connect it via USB directly to the car. The cable routes along side the gear lever. And it doesn't obstruct gear changes at all, it looks closer to the stick than it actually is.

I too have an iPhone 6+ currently attached to the centre console of my Mk2 FL VRS with a Brodit setup. As pointed out above, Brodit annoyingly don't do a centre console mount for the MK3 which I've ordered today.

Does anybody have any experience of the A pillar clip that Brodit do? From the limited photos available online, the mount didn't seem to sit flush against the A pillar??

I only collected my VRs today at 17.30, then straight into a 100 mile drive to Gloucester/south Wales.

 

Just connected my phone via blue tooth and chucked it in the phone cubby hole in front of the gearstick, worked brilliantly for making hands free phone calls.

When it needed charging just plugged the USB lead into the port just above said cubby hole  .

I can just about manage to go most journeys without having to look at my phone. Bluetooth deals with the rest. Don't understand the need to clutter up the dash with awful phone holders.

Because I use TomTom on the iPhone for my SatNav (Traffic is really great) and I needed to hold, and charge, two different iPhones (Wife’s 6 and my 5S) I went for a TomTom holder (window suction mounted just above parking ticket holder on windscreen. Then ran a power cable from the fuse box for charging, no sign of wires, very simple to plug in (seconds) and works on any phone.  No issues with lack of viewable area for driver and easily in view/reach for any satnav functions when parked (or driving but that would be naughty!).

 

Really simple no cables running all over the place, simply clever!!

Brodit mount in front of the central air vents, running TomTom sat nav on my phone. Did think about factory fit sat nav but at £700 or so it was not an option. TomTom on my Nexus 5 cost £35 and to be honest is better than the Amundsen in our last Skoda.
