  • Can anyone on 10 confirm chrome working? So long as that works, she won't be upset at any other niggles.

  • Yup. Chrome installed and working fine for me.   Phil

Ask her about the Master-chief and she'll tell you how he invaded her ring

I know a gay work colleague who asked Cortana to call "Someone Sexy" and she rang another fella! The poor guy didn't know what to do with himself, especially as the person was in the same room!  :giggle:

WOW just unplugged laptop and used 10% of battery in 10 minutes with 42 minutes remaining, normally would still have a good 4 or 5 hours left and used nout!!!! This could be a show stopper for Win 10 and I :(

Google now copes with Scottish accents perfectly, come on Microsoft

I'm not but, Im creating them for my colleagues who aren't particularly computer savvy and I don't trust enough to give them any of my usb drives. I doubt they would be able to navigate bios to choose boot sequence and early windows 7 PC's I suspect will already be set to dvd in the boot sequence so I though it would just be easier to give them all DVD's.

In that case, that makes the most sense!

As per the video it won't let me pin any I choose annoyingly :( 'pin to taskbar' is only option in the 'all apps' list.

Something is wrong there!

As you can see in my screen shot (don't judge haha) I have my most used apps in their groups just like in Windows 8.1.

(Forget the start menu is on the other side, I use it on both screens depending on what I'm doing)

About to start on the laptop...

Going to DEFCON 3

Done a boot USB stick, now because they don't want to do an automatic upgrade doing that manually via the update tool.

Will also download an ISO file for emergency use.

Battery life is so far looking very positive on my laptop.

Even better than windows 8.1 I would say.

Been unplugged for about 5 mins and at 99% with an estimated 7 hours 28 mins remaining.

Had the laptop over 2 years now and it's supposed to last up to 9 hours but has obviously degraded slightly over time.

Can someone tell me I tried to do the USB drive option on my laptop, the key has been changed to what it should be namely the one on the base of the laptop, however the key is rejected by Win 10. I thought that it would accept it as it's an upgrade.

Or is it treating it as a fresh install and requires me to buy a new key?

You first need to upgrade then make sure it's activated over the internet. You can then do a fresh install and it will remember and allow you to activate again.

Did it that way and it works, but not before my hard drive on the laptop got corrupted somehow, so lost everything on it. Mmm.

Still did a clean install of Win 7 pro, then just upgraded it to Win 10 pro, it works, but I haven't got it working properly yet, I can't be bothered at the moment, as Win 10 is poor, so maybe removed from it.

My thoughts so far.... I wish I hadn't bothered, I think it's naff, Win 7 is miles better more control and it doesn't nose around on other drives to combine everything like Win 10.

Too many devices need new drivers and my sound card doesn't have any OEM ones until Mid August.

The brand new graphics card is problematical (MSI GTX 970), had serious issues with the screen scaling and resolution, needed to download & install new drivers for that too. Too much focus on SOSHALL MEEJA like Tw**er & Faecebook & Skype!

Chrome doesn't appear correctly and it appears with a white bar at the top, instead of the correct grey one, as does Firefox, Edge is rubbish.

So all in all I can see why Win 10 was free. And to top it all my keyboard keeps connecting & disconnecting.

Can anyone on 10 confirm chrome working?

Works fine on my Surface Pro 2

Edge is rubbish.

Edge is far more compliant than IE ever was (most websites had to be bodged to work, rather than just complying with standards).

Using it now on the laptop.

Update was a PITA to get to start, but appears to have concluded with no problems.

First impressions....

No nearly as much of a jarring change as Win8 was.

Things have moved but generally it's not too hard to find anything.

No errors at the moment even with an Nvidia chipset.

The main negative is the advertising crap in the start menu. I don't really wan to be greeted with an ad for Candy Crush or Minecraft every time I want to open an office doc.

Does seem to be easy enough to clear.

[edit] candy cruft crap appears to have been preloaded, ****ers

[edit2] Some sillyness -

Get Office - I've got Office

Get Skype - I've got Skype

Candy druft doesn't seem to be installed even though it's in the app list.

Hopefully those can be stopped otherwise I'll be getting grief off the parents and in laws when they update

Seems to have worked on the linx 10. I also seem to have loads more disk space.

It says its free for home users and small businesses.

I take it any version of Pro is chargeable, how does it define 'small business'?

Edit: Done some reading and looks like it should be free for our work PC's too.

They have Windows 7 Pro currently OEM from the factory. Should be free upgrade

using WSUS and windows update or have I misunderstood?

All working ok, did my work laptop today using the ISO downloaded from the volume licensing centre. Nothing has failed yet, except there are no RSAT tools for the released Windows 10 yet.

Don't think there is any vpn either.

I am seriously thinking of upgrading but still have not had the nod as yet.  I keep looking at all of the threads currently running about Windows 10 so that I may be able to make an informed decision but............why do some peopl just have to post their knowledge with abbreviations that mean nothing to the average computer/forum user?  I am left completely baffled by some of them and find them a huge turn off for the whole affair!

Couple of examples:-

They are from the last two posts so I didn't have to try hard to find any but there are many and whilst some may have plenty of knowledge of computers we don't all have that knowledge.  Just a idea how about making the thread useful to all levels?

In fairness, both of the abbreviations listed would only be of use to power or admin users on networks, as one is a remote server tool and the other is a virtual private network tool, both of which I doubt the average non computer literate person ever goes near.

I take your point though, but to be honest, most of the recent machines that have made the jump to 8.1 already seem to be upgrading ok. As always there will be outliers on the map, but recent machines seem to be going ok.

Generally if you don't know one of the acronyms the it's probably nothing for you to worry about.

Would saying Remote Server Administration Tools or Virtual Private Network have helped at all with the two examples you gave? Any standard acronym would be easy to look up on google and probably help much more than spelling out what an acronym stands for.

Unless you're a 'power user' I wouldn't bother updating yet. Wait a couple of months and do it around then as most problems you have will have been either solved or have documented workarounds.

Is there a win10 feature you are in need of or just curious to see what it's all about?

There isn't much need for anyone to rush to upgrade from a working W7 or W8 machine, especially if it's their main or only computer, and especially if you aren't reasonably technical and happy to fix problems that arise.

There will always be a big improvement in performance and stability in the months after release, common issues and solutions will be documented and it will be a much more straightforward process.

Generally if you don't know one of the acronyms the it's probably nothing for you to worry about.

I appreciate that may be the case but how am I or anyone else like me to know?  No saying the full title as opposed to an abbreviation would not help but the point remains I think.

So obviously I am not a power user whatever one of them is and I think I will wait a couple of months anyway but curiosity and all that!

Not getting at anyone in paticular about this just I think if you are bothering to post on a non subject related topic in a car forum it would be better to explain in some form or other that said information would be of little use to the layman in order that those of without the knowledge at least know it would be of little use rather than think we may be missing something important.  It is almost (I stress almost) a form of snobbery.....I know something most of you don't and look how clever I am.  I am quite certain in most cases it is nothing of the sort but nevertheless I think if it were on a computer related forum it would be more relevant than in here.
