VCDS options on Superb III

Recommended Posts

@Race_of_Denmark which instructions did you follow to enable Lane Assist and TSR? I tried following some a few weeks back, but ended up bailing out, as it was taking too long, and I was getting errors that I couldn't clear (I had time constraints, and no time to pick through all the errors). I have the same spec as you (HBA, ACC), but MY18. Would really appreciate if you can share the instructions, or point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Hi all,

I too have been doing some coding and adaptions. My S3 MY16 was originally fitted with ACC and HBA so I enabled TSA and Lane Assist. All works as expected but I have magically gotten a few extra features enabled that are not supposed to be there:

These are Blind Spot Monitor and Side Assist. I don't have the hardware for these (yet) so the should not be there. Another problem is a few errors that are (probably) related to me entering some wrong adaptations. To sum up:

  1. How do I hide Side Assist again from the menu?
  2. How do I hide Blind Spot Monitor again from the menu?
  3. What does A5::C10ACF2 - Steering - Interface for lane departure warning system not coded, HC_interface_at_the_steering_not_activated mean and how do I get rid of it ?
  4. What does 5F::U111100 - Function limitation due to missing message - Road sign display (0x21) - function restriction due to communication error - BapErr_retry not successful mean and how do I get rid of it ?

The software I purchased for this is CarPort - which I found out too late is not able to dump the adaptations like the RossTech. I you have any recommendations in that regard I'm all ears (eyes, really....)

Best Regards

You have enabled the wrong or too many adaptations in 5F.

Fault in 44 comes at coding. This fault could get erased easily by deleted fault Codes.

In 5F could be because of wrong adaptations in 5F. Perhaps you have enabled lane-assistant instead of lane-departure-warning?

Hi,

I erased the errors on all ECU's and you are completely right on this part. Errors gone :-)

I am quite sure that I have enabled Lane Assistant - which you say may be the culprit here.

Can you please elaborate on the difference between Lane assistant and Lane departure warning?

The function I want is Lane assist but is that what the ECU calls lane departure warning?

I have lane assist and can either have it just try to alert you that you are leaving the lane (resistance on steering) or to actively steer and stay in lane. There are two settings for lane assist. Take a look at the manual if you are not sure.

I don't know if it makes a difference that mine is MY19 as to what it does. I assume the option is the same as it was in 2016.

Ok.

Then what I have enabled is Lane Assist (as I expected). It actively steers the car so it stays in the lanes. That part is good, then.

The question remains then: How do I get rid of the 2 non-functional options "Blind Spot Monitor" and "Side Assist"?

In 5F you have enabled the adaptations with Lane Assistant. These are the options for Blind Spot. Because of that you have to deactivate them again and have to enable the adaptations with Lane Departure Warning. Lane Departure Warning in 5F shows you the Buttons for Lane Assist

I just bought SEL with LightAssist, Lane assist, blind spot and road sign detect. I am just wondering if there is some way to activate ACC. What you think?
I do have the A5 camera.

No.

ACC requires radar equipment in the front grille. It does not use the A5 camera. You can get it retrofitted, but this will be costly, as you'll need to have the radar sensor installed.

Thanks. I just called a friend of mine and I got the radar equipment for 50$:)
The DC and ECU plugs are visible and I cant easily connect the radar. Ive already placed it behind the front grille, but I dont know how to tell ECU to initialize it.

I am wondering if this is all the hardware needed for ACC to run?

Forget about retrofitting ACC with VCDS... There are only few people who can do it and they have online access to the VW server.

The activation is of course not free - You need to pay VW for activation code. The code is personalized to Your VIN, so no grabbibg any code from other cars.

You’re going to need the correct cruise control stalk which comes as one piece with the indicator stalk as well. But, as others have mentioned it’s an absolute pain to get this activated. Once it’s active it will need to be calibrated properly by a Bosch (or whoever makes our radars these days) technician using specialist equipment. This has to be arranged with the dealership because they do not have the equipment on site, the technicians are mobile

I know this from experience, we have a mk7 golf gti which was involved in a minor accident - they had to replace the front bumper and radar, 2 weeks for the repairs and then 3 weeks for the calibration plus a massive cost (covered by insurance of course)

@Novaproject As others have mentioned, this can't be done just with VCDS. I recently had front sensors retrofitted, and the technician from VAGTEC (who came to my house to do it), said that additional software needed installing to make the front sensors work after they were installed. I believe he was referring to the activation process that @Enriquez mentioned.

The basic rule of thumb (as far as I can make out), is that anything which requires new hardware, which wasn't present when your vehicle left the factory, will require an activation code from a dealer. If no new hardware is needed (e.g. you already have High Beam Assist, and wish to activate Lane Assist via the A5 camera), this should just be a case of coding in VCDS (or OBDEleven/Carista).

Thanks guys!
Now I understand what pain it is., but I won't quit yet.  At least now I can ask adequate questions.

I will start looking for the right stalk and continue with this anyway, without any rush :)  Will coordinate with some friends inside Skoda service in my country and will see what will happen.

Did you go through the process and if so, can i ask costs of installation of sensors and activation?

@cs.rogers For sensors? Yes - I've been commenting on the other thread too:

Total cost was £554 for mobile fitting, including colour coding of the paint on the sensors.

Is the £554 the cost for front sensors only...? That's quite expensive.

I wanted at least front sensors on the SE L Executive (which were extra when ordered) so I went for park assist to also get the side sensors. Shows how factory order options can be better value I think. The Park Assist was £590 when I got it.

Doesn't sound that expensive. Retrofitting is always much more work than ordering with the car.

Yep! Expensive, but I factored it in when buying the car (ex-demo car with 1000 miles on it). Always had front and rear sensors fitted as standard on my previous SEATs, but Skoda seem to only do the rear sensors by default on many models, unless you pay extra for fronts. Definitely worth the money, though.
