Turned 200k, anything special to do?

Featured Replies

My 2004 Fabia saloon just turned 200,000 km, is there anything special now about the mentainance I should do in this special occasion?

Congratulation.

You just carry on with your service and maintenance regime.

What needs doing depends on when you last did things.

If it has not had a Major Service this might be a good time to do one.

Gearbox oil, power steering fluid?

Bake a cake :)

Change the battery in the key fob?

  • 2 weeks later...

That's only 120,000 miles. It's just about run-in now. You can use all the revs now ;)

Probably about time to empty the ashtray.

Do you think?? Is it that long living? Actually i have no problems with the mechanics of the car, it runs perfectly. The problems are with the electronics, i changed the driver's door lock once and it's broken again, the window motor is broken on both driver and passenger's side. I lost the outside temperature sensor, the roof antenna is a mess, and my windsheild is cracked.

But it runs very good, and accelerate fine!

I have these under control, anything else? I also have it completely checked, and oil and filters changed every 10000 km. the spark plugs are changed every 25 - 30 k. I guess i am doing it right!

Pray to Mecca. ;)

Is it on it's original Turbo?

Party Poppers, a big banner over a bridge somewhere?

Well, mine has 400,000 km on it. And the only thing that doesn't work is the lights on buzzer and that's because I have a Maxidot cluster rather than a standard cluster (so it's not the cars fault). I do spend £500-£1000 per year on maintenance though to keep it in as good condition as I can. It didn't need a new turbo, but I put one on anyway to stop it dying and damaging the engine. Likewise, EGR valve, exhaust, Eibach springs, Koni FSD dampers and RARB mounting bushes didn't need replacing but they had all done 150,000 miles and were starting to feel soggy so they all got replaced. A new clutch and DMF mean that won't ever be an emergency job either. Cars are not washing machines. They don't work perfectly for 10 years then die to be fixed or dumped. You have to service them and, in my opinion, MAINTAIN them. That means keep them as good as they left the factory. People used to do this, but now they just service them and then change their car, so when you buy a used car it's often someone else's old unloved rubbish.

But back to your car....

The windscreen crack isn't something that would ever be covered by warranty anyway.

The power window motors are nothing to do with mileage, that's age and use. Drivers door locks are known to fail, but quite easy to fix. Again, they were failing on new cars so not mileage related. I have no idea what you could do to a roof antenna to make it 'a mess'. To be honest, the car sounds fabulous mechanically, it just wants a bit of love and TLC. Replace the antenna, fix the lock and window winders and get the windscreen replaced and you've got a fault-free car.

It's a saloon, so it's not a vRS and probably not even diesel given that the OP is in Egypt.
