Also my Octavia Vrs cr tdi 2012 CEGA engine is affected :dull:

Octavia MK3 VRS EA288 engine, all clear. (September 2014 Reg)

I feel sorry for the people who's cars are affected, here's hoping the cars will still give the quoted BHP and similar MPG once fixed.

Just been on the emissions recall checker and it looks like I'm all clear, then - no consolation to those that are not, I guess!

A bit odd tbh, I was sure my CEGA-engined pre-fl CR vRS was fitted with the EA189? But as far as I'm aware, my ECU is not encrypted (verified by a tuner).

So, maybe this encryption thing is the difference with the post 2009 fl vRS's? I can't speak for the rest of the effected models, though.

Needless to say, I guess it now blows my earlier dyno power run fuse-removal theory out the water.  :wonder:

The ? Is if it doesn't, then what sale of goods act sue, compensation offered err don't think so,buy back err doubt it,

I was thinking of paying to have a rolling road print out done before and after, after all that's why I bought a vrs.

I would think that most members will feel this way.

I suspect a remap after will be the only way to regain the lost power, but there is the bigger question of re sale value especially against another brand so unless the fix means no loss of power and fuel consumption who will want your car at at its pre problem price they will say they can't sell it on.

In my opinion which means nowt,I think they should buy back these cars at the value they are now to allow people to move on without loss. Let's be honest if it was anything else we would be getting all our money back.

I know it's speculation about power loss and increased fuel consumption to allow the fix.

But everything I have read in the last week from so called specialists points to this.

Just been on google I see the no win no fee lawyers are on it already offering class action against VW for compensation to all owners who lose power fuel consumption or loss of value of there vehicle,we're will it all end and when, especially if you were ready to sell your car as i WAS.

Its possibly that they may be prosecuted even if they didn't know (or it can't be proved that they knew, directed or authorised such measures) since as executive board emembers they hold legal responsibility for the company.

I suppose the questions then would be "Should they have known?" or "Did their decisions directly lead to the development and installation of the 'defeat devices'?".

I'm still amazed that this didn't leak out. There must have been hundreds of people in the know.

I feel quite sure that the executives at VW will use something along the lines of King Henry II's "Who will rid me of this troublesome NOx?" excuse and claim that some naive spotty faced Geek took their musings too literally and added a "back door cheat" to the software ;)

Thanks for the link. Our Octavia 1.6 GREENLINE ii, purchased march 2013, is confirmed as involved.  CAYC engine. The other recall link showed nothing.

Could be worth recording mpg from now to establish loss of economy?

Have full record of mine from collection.

Ah, but your driving style may have varied post 'fix'.   Simplest option is to wait and see - for now, decline any remap or mod risking a severe downgrade in performance or economy (or further reliability issues with the dpf). Dept of transport made clear this isnt't a recall therefore not compulsory - nor are there any road tax or insurance implications, at least according to the Telegraph article I posted up on page 51 of this thread.    Maybe join a legal class action to cover any major depreciation, which can be easily documented via Glass', or Parkers price guides as this sorry saga unfolds.      Bit more of a problem for those still with warranties, therefore dependent on their main dealer, granted.

cheers

Didn't some early EA189's have Siemens ECU's without encryption or cheat software.

My Octavia Mk3 1.6 (June 2014) is in the clear.

Dear ŠKODA customer,

We wish to confirm that your vehicle with the Vehicle Identification Number you submitted, is not affected by software that causes discrepancies in the values for oxides of nitrogen (NOx) during dynometer runs.

Yours faithfully,

ŠKODA.

Didn't some early EA189's have Siemens ECU's without encryption or cheat software.

I've really no idea, but it sounds quite feasible to me.

Maybe the fix is just decrypt the ECU, remove the offending cheat code and away you go. With hopefully no need to meddle with engine maps.

Or just somehow swap it out for a pre-fl ECU? All just uneducated guesses on my part, I might add.

I guess time will tell.

VW told me it's an ecu software update

So I bought my Skoda Superb MK2 late Aug 2015 and It has flagged up as a recall.

Tbh I'm not impressed with forking out a lot of my hard earned cash to be told they now need to change it. Also diesal not having the greatest name from all of this, not to mention the health risks now associated with these engines.

Question is do I have any consumer rights to return the goods as I am within the 6 month return period? As in "goods not as described " and then not having to worry about going down the legal compensation route?

Thanks

I used the checker again and the answer came back in the negative, so I used the 2nd link you so kindly provided and asked for an answer by e mail as then I should have something in writing from Skoda.

As I said in a posting, I put my Vin details in and for 2 times the answer came back as not involved , which I found hard to believe, so I used the 2nd link and sent to Skoda UK asking for an answer by e mail. At 7.45 pm this evening I received a phone call to my Landline ( fortunately I was in ) from Skoda UK who said my car IS affected. They said they fed in my chassis number and Reg. details and up came the answer I had suspected all along. So my advice is not take too much notice of what the online system produces by entering the Vin numbers, as Skoda use chassis

and Registration details. They said they would write by letter later this month or next when it is decided what remedial action will be taken when the vehicle is recalled.

Update on VW withdrawal of vehicles

Plus the issue of 'compulsion' to update

2014 Yeti Greenline 1.6 coming up on Skoda Ireland for recall. Will future sales values be taken into consideration.

VW told me it's an ecu software update

I have heard this as well...

I have said before, VW have already stated that the software is on a lot of cars, but it was never activated or used.. I suspect in stricter emission countries it was used, in the UK/EU maybe not, in which case, if we all stop taking notice of the bull**** in the press and wait for VAG Group to say what the fix is, we may all be happy... and I am sure we will..

If the software is dormant and never activated, removing it will make sod all difference to our cars ...

For example, I have a top of the range Superb, all features are activated... my mate has a basic model.. same car, same engine, same transmission, same ECU, same software.. but half the stuff is turned off.. we connect VCDS and switch everything on because it is in the software but turned off.. This could be exactly the same... California car .. Switched on... UK car, not needed..

At the end of the day, it is not a compulsory update, it is my choice... and I am convinced there is nothing to worry about...

VW should be telling or have told the German Government the proposed actions they are going to take by tomorrow,

then once they approve and other EU Governments,

maybe the customers will be told what is happening by people that were told, and not guessing even if is

an educated guess,,

which likely a Telephone Call Handler or Service Desk Receptionist is not making.

The Announcement has been made.

By the VW Boss.

Repairs starting in January, mostly a Software Update and some might require a new Catalytic Converter as

Sky reported it.

As reported in Frankfurter Allgemeine

http://www.faz.net/aktuell/wirtschaft/vw-abgasskandal/neuer-volkswagen-chef-vw-will-maengel-an-fahrzeugen-bis-2016-beheben-13842286.html

Volkswagen will start in January with the recall affected by manipulation diesel vehicles. "We submit to the Federal Motor Transport Authority this week technical solutions. Are accepted, we order the parts. Everything goes as planned, we can begin in January with the repair, "said the new CEO of Volkswagen, Matthias Müller, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. By the end of 2016 then you should be put in order all the cars. For messages of FAZ, there were not as had been feared 11 million but "only" 9.5 million cars affected, Müller took only indirectly position: "There are hopefully less. But there are still far too many. "

A high number of vehicles is its reportedly repairable via a software update, but some serious interventions in parts of the vehicle are probably required. "If necessary, we build. Of course, free for the customer, "

From another article

http://worldarchy.com/muller-vw-ideas-to-launch-recall-in-january/

This is about the engine EA 189 in mixture with numerous transmissions and various country-distinct interpretations, Müller mentioned. “So we do not want 3 options, but 1000’s.” For most motors satisfy an update of the software. Some automobiles but may possibly need to have new injectors and catalytic converters.
