Breaking VW Emissions Scandal -Mk I

Featured Replies

Well yes actually!

'If only everything in life was a reliable as a Volkswagen', or those that are fan boys.

You can rely on plenty, leaking H20 in, H20 out, more emissions out than declared, and more oil and fuel used than published,

(with a big enough percentage of them that matters, but then who cares how many good cars they build,

when you get landed with their Lemons.).

The Big change is,

now VW have to admit to things.

Good lyrics in this song, very appropriate.

Quoted from the above autocar article

"While details on the technical fix Volkswagen will use to correct the affected cars remain limited, Willis said that customers should notice no difference in fuel economy once the fix has been applied"

This seems to have been VW's response all along but what about power? There has never been any mention anywhere as far as I have seen about whether there will be any changes to the power of the engines. Are they keeping quiet about that because there could be an adverse effect?

Exactly what I've been thinking.

My thoughts are to maintain the same performance for e.g. a 110PS diesel, that they would have to upgrade it to what is required for the 140PS (bigger turbo etc.!)  and then reverse engineer it so that to get the required emissions the power would drop, probably not to 110PS but you get my drift.

Fuel economy might not be quite as good as the original 110PS but probably not far off and I'd rather keep the power and sacrifice a few MPG. But I guess that VWG are scared to death of mentioning worse MPG as that will be a sure fire way of being open to claims.

As I've said elsewhere VWG are banking on most customers being ignorant of what will really happen to their cars i.e. reduced power. To be honest if that happened to me I wouldn't be too bothered about a slight drop in ultimate BHP as I don't rev high enough (especially in a diesel) to achieve it but I would be bothered if there was less torque and drivability. That's where before and after dyno runs are required.

Of course my reversed engineered thoughts aren't going to happen, way too expensive as obviously VWG want to get away with this as painlessly as possible. And they are already being helped by our government by not insisting on a recall! Unbelievable, shows what they really think about the environment!

Oh No, another dig at VW in general!

Yup, really ought to change his name from "goneoffSKion1" to "IHateVAG".

This thread would be a hell of a lot shorter, certainly./

I'm sure he can, but just in case....

I SEE what you did there (if you see what I mean)

Did he say anything about the 1.2 also and the 7 Spd DSG ?.

No, I didn't ask as not likely to be involved but as for the 7sp dsg, I posted a link re those a few days ago as I was horrified re the complexity, so if you haven't already got one, I would steer clear? There is thread on Briskoda with that heading, I am sure I have seen it ?.

The latest from VW....

Thorough appraisal of the Diesel emissions issue

Wolfsburg, October 23, 2015. Volkswagen confirms today that no software constituting an improper defeat device as defined in law is installed in vehicles with EA288 EU5 as well as EU6-engines in the European Union. Consequently, new vehicles of the Volkswagen Group offered within the European Union with those engines comply with legal requirements and environmental standards.

Volkswagen AG is systematically reviewing this issue worldwide. The group strives for a holistic solution for complying with the respective valid standards.

After thorough examination it is now confirmed that no software constituting an improper defeat device as defined in law is installed in vehicles with EA 288 EU5-engines. Before, Volkswagen Group has confirmed that new EU6-compliant vehicles offered within the European Union fulfil all legal requirements and environmental standards.

The phrase to watch there is " improper defeat device as defined by law " , which contains words open to gross misinterpretation?. I M O of course

Volkswagen customers can visit the corporate websites such as www.volkswagen.de/info, which was set up on October 2, 2015 and enter the chassis number of their vehicle to find out straight away whether their vehicles are affected. Similar customer websites are active in the other EU countries and for the Audi, SEAT and Škoda brands.

Work on the technical solutions detailed in the plan of measures is currently proceeding at full speed. Remedial action on the vehicles will begin in January 2016 – at no cost to customers. The measures are currently being developed for each affected series and each affected model year and will first be presented to the responsible authorities.

Volkswagen will subsequently inform the owners of these vehicles over the next weeks and months.

My above posting did not come out as intended, all I wanted to say was "

The phrase to watch there is " improper defeat device as defined by law " , which contains words open to gross misinterpretation?. I M O of course ". All that followed was not intended. I don't know if anyone else finds it not easy to post on Briskoda Forum ?.

I dunno how to do posts like that so your doin better than i am

Some posters post without actually saying anything, and get loads of postings to their name in the process.

Yup, really ought to change his name from "goneoffSKion1" to "IHateVAG".

At least he's changed his profile picture so we all think it's someone else!

That must be considered as a wise statement that if you don't like the truth just ignore it ,because you own a VAG you believe everything they tell you, when you know they lie ,come on smell the fresh air,if it smells like s***,looks like s*** then there's a good chance it is s***.why are so many people in denial that the product they have invested in is not what they thought, none of us wanted this situation but there is no denying it or ignoring it ,just be realistic ,posters are not anti VAG they are dissapolnted with VAG and are not prepared to ignore and hope it will all blow over .

I do not have a profile picture up!

(there is one again, just for the poster @#2417

What a bunch of muppets with no sense of humour that add no more to the thread than you think i do.

Maybe troll me less and read the pointless posts coming in from some of yourselfs.

05surveyor,  look at your last dozen posts and see what contribution you make to the thread.

vxh26, another one that worries more about my posts than the stuff he replies to others.

Unbelievable really, Pot, Kettle Black.

Wow some slack for someone who has been a wealth of useful information on many issues relating to the fabia vrs and others, vw have cheated and lied for nearly 20 years on the "clean" diesel technology they have(not) george has a wealth of knowleadge and much in demand, like our resident troller said " youve got a hide button" use it

IBTL

Soon hopefully as this thread's going nowhere. No new news. Nothing more to add....etc

This IBTL stuff is usually from them that have added nothing to threads,

not even wound anyone up, but want threads closed.  very odd.

Whats ibtl mean??

I contributed a few links to articles and was an early adopter of this kind of thread, but as it now goes round in circles in some sort of smog related pee-ing contest, I think IBTL is not an unrealistic prospect.

Where do you get your 20 year figure from?

So is it fair to assume that it's only VAG that have been caught or perhaps they are the only ones doing this cheating? I'd have thought that there would be plenty official bodies rechecking all the manufacturers emissions tests and retesting if necessary. possibly VAG themselves are looking to see if a major competitor is cheating and then leak this to the press?

If VAG are the only ones cheating, they what I don't understand is why other much smaller companies with less resources, could make engines that didn't need to cheat to pass the tests. Seems really, really odd.
