Why does anyone in the UK need a solicitors help in a Class Action,  what have you lost in the past month,

or are you expecting to have to claim on.

VW have not sent you information on anything they are going to offer to do yet have they?

No but best to be prepared for all eventualities

We should take a leaf out of the Germans handbook. A bit more protectionism for national interests from our government wouldn't go a miss instead of allowing the wholesale destruction of our manufacturing for personal interests overseas. Its off topic a bit but My job will be affected as a knock on of the death of the Steel industry because i design Steel products and we use caparo who have gone into administration today. The government need to realize that its not just the car manufacturers that they let disapear its all the smaller companies that used to supply them. Even if they are **** you protect them because they ensure jobs and legislate reform. I can't see Angela letting their flagship Industry go down the sh1tter like we did without car plants years ago. Protectionism and free market forces need to be balanced not one or the other.

Writing a will,  seems like a good use of a Solicitor,

filling in an Organ Donation form, taking out Funeral Cost Insurance, and talking about end of life wishes is preparing for eventualities and sure things like death.

Stressing over getting something done to some car that will probably be scrapped or owned by someone else

within a decade seems like it will likely bring on premature death.

I don't understand the comments made. Why refer to the last month when the deceit started 6 years ago but only became publicly MANIFEST recently.

Why wait till V A G say what they are going to offer, which will be the minimum anyway. I would have thought what is laid out in the lawyer's letter gives some idea what could be claimed for, so no doubt you will dispute with them. Let us know what transpires please.

The amounts mentioned by the lawyers in their letter I assume relates Europe, to which must be added that from America and as has been mentioned before, the Yanks ain't gonna go soft in their quests. The dozen or so at V A G who allegedly did the deceit will no doubt be well and truly prosecuted.

I agree with you and was surprised when in the 70's the Government let Rolls Royce go bust. I can remember coming out of my office in Bar lane and reading the Evening Standard bill boards with surprise. Heath I think was P M at the time?

Tony R,

2009 to 2015 September the cars were what they were, some good and some sharn,

so in the month since the Recalls in the USA, what loss has there been to any owner in the UK?

Yeah, take it up with Leigh Day !

Plenty no doubt will, and if they lost something then maybe they will get something out of it.

Maybe even the greedy that have lost nothing will gain as well.

Such is human nature.

Either way the legal vultures will win . . . but then, they aren't human are they?

The most depressing aspect of this is that as Legal Aid is cut to the point where the poor are unable to seek legal redress, Qatar et al will pour bucketloads of money into the pockets of a bunch of greedy lawyers and perhaps wipe out VW into the bargain which will doubtless help shareholders, employees and owners tremendously :(

The "poor" shouldn't buy a VW diesel sadly, it seems.

You're right!

They certainly haven't promised us less power or torque, so, being completely naive, I'm assuming everything will be just dandy.

What does it say on the the Recall Letters sent out to the Registered Keepers of affected cars in Australia?

Why WOULD you look forward to having your pants taken down, is my attitude.

nor a VW TSI engine it would seem, read articles by searching " VW TSI engine problems " or something like that, frightening.

Imagine if Toyota, Honda etc had so many engine related issue.

(not to be confused with floor mats that the U.S. consumer finds so technically difficult to deal with)

I received this e mail from them today, which should give you much information.

An update on the claims against the Volkswagen Group

Dear Anthony

On Thursday 15th October 2015 we wrote to Paul Willis, the Chief Executive of Volkswagen Group UK. We asked him to respond to some of the pressing questions that have been put to us by our clients.

Whilst giving evidence to the Environmental Audit Committee on Thursday morning, Paul Willis commented that it was “paramount that our customers know we do care and we really want to put these things right…”.

In light of these comments, we suggested that in order to demonstrate that intent, Volkswagen should start the process of establishing a settlement scheme to ensure that owners are compensated fairly and quickly. You can read a copy of our letter here.

The key question for many is whether they have a viable claim at this moment in time. This is certainly the case for those owners who have since September 2015 sold or attempted to sell their Volkswagen Group vehicle(s) and have either had to do so at a loss or have been unable to sell it. In these circumstances, there is a quantifiable loss as a result of Volkswagen’s action that can be claimed for now. If this applies to you, please let us know as soon as possible providing us with full details.

We would also argue that those who have purchased their vehicles within the last 30 days should be entitled to a full refund. Please let us know if you have requested such a refund and have been refused.

Other potential losses including damages for the misrepresentation made depend on the refit itself and the impact that any refit will have on the vehicle’s performance, fuel economy, CO2 emissions and resale value. We will be able to quantify those losses once we know what Volkswagen’s solution to the problem is.

German authorities have rejected Volkswagen’s proposal of a voluntary recall and have insisted that a mandatory recall of all vehicles takes place. It is therefore likely that similar action will be required in the UK. We are seeking clarification from the Department of Transport of what steps they are going to take.

We have also been discussing with environmental groups what action can be taken in relation to the environmental impact of Volkswagen’s use of defeat devices and the wider regulatory failure. We will be writing to the Department of Transport and its executive agencies to make a formal request for information under the Environmental Information Regulations.

To read our earlier updates please visit the Leigh Day website here.

We are receiving a number of enquiries from the media regarding the potential legal cases. If you would be interested in talking to the media about this issue please contact our Head of Media Relations, David Standard, by emailing him here.

Thanks for that
