I can confirm that replacing the metainfo2.txt with an older one works.

I created a set of POIs on the VW site on 11/02/2017 but it wouldn't load to the Columbus. The set was made up of a number of categories, some .kmz files, some .asc files.

The last working set that I created on the VW site was dated 31/12/2016 and that one loads to the Columbus no problem.

I have just replaced the metainfo2.txt file in the top folder of the 11/02/2017 set with the same file from the 31/12/2016 set and that does the trick!

Can see all my previous personal POIs plus 2 new speed cams that weren't in the old set.

I have attached my working metainfo2.txt file, hope this helps.

metainfo2.zip

Good work Rifleman, everything works a treat now.  Much appreciated!

Hi POI gurus - I've followed the various instructions in this thread to create a USB drive with 7 sets of POI (6 from PocketGPSworld, plus the free speed cams from POI Plaza). All were downloaded and then put through the VW POI site in ASC format. I've now got a USB with a 'PersonalPOI' folder and the metainfo2 file in the top level. I replaced the created metainfo2 with the one provided in this thread.

But when I try to update the sat nav in the car, it says no update is found. I now notice that within the top level PersonalPOI folder there are 3 more folders, each of which has its own metainfo2 file. Do I also need to replace each of these metainfo2 files with the version provided in this thread??

No, just replacing the single file in the root folder works for me.

Hmm, I'm not sure what is wrong in that case. I'm right in thinking it should work fine using a USB stick in the AUX USB slot in the phone box (ie rather than an SD card)?

Personally I have only used an SD card.

You should have Personal POI in the root folder and within Personal POI should reside

MIB2DE

MIB2HIGH

MIB2TSD

Also in the root folder should be

metainfo2.txt (the old version)

In my case I left the metainfo2.txt files which were installed by the VW site within the MIB files without there being any problem.

Yep, that's how I've always done it. Something must have gone wrong with your conversion or in writing them to USB. Just start again and see how you get on. Make sure there are no other files on the USB and you follow all the steps for converting them on VW's site.

I've now found an old SD card in that odds and sods drawer, and it has worked straight away without any issues. So it seemed to not like my Sanddisk USB stick for whatever reason.

The ping when approaching speed cameras (or other POIs with the alert switched on) seems very subtle to me. Is there a way to change it or make it more obvious? Does it also work if the navigation screen is not being displayed?

I am not sure if you can change the audible warning sound, but I can confirm that it plays even if Navigation is not being displayed, as I have set it to fire with my BP Petrol Station POI's that I updated earlier. I drive past 2 on my commute home and it goes "bong" every bloody time!

Nope, didn't work. The search button under the three bars just takes you to the default search. Whilst this is fine for searching for pre-installed POIs it won't find the POIs I've just imported for some reason. Despite them showing on the map - I can find them and click on them on the map itself to navigate to them, but can't get to them any other way.

Oh well, I still suspect this is user error. I'll bet I did something weird when I first created the list of POIs...

I've got the same problem as this - It doesn't seem possible to actually search for POIs that have been imported.

More gernerally, and with the stock POIs too, it seems very clunky that you cant just go to a list of categories and say show me all the hotels or similar. You've got to search for the category name by entering it's text, whilst correctly guessing what categories are available and what they are referred to as. (Eg there isn't one called supermarkets - instead they are lumped in under shopping centres).

I haven't yet tried it, but I've just read this on a VW forum which might (partly at least) be what we are looking for:

After more playing around I have realised that I can touch any point on the map and a dialog box appears that allows me to "search nearby" and then type in say supermarket or Tesco and get a local listing.

Thanks @Mon55 - I'll give it a try. It's not ideal though, is it? Arguably I could just find the POI icon on the map and click on it to navigate to it, but surely we should be able to search for them from the main search screen?

No, definitely not ideal - it's very strange and unlike any other sat nav not to have a list of all POI categories where you can select one category and then it will show you the nearest entries for that category. (ie the way it works for the 3 - fuel, restaurant & parking - that are in the POI shortcut button). It's also strange that you customise the shortcut button to change restaurant, for example, to supermarket (not that supermarket exits as it's own category!).

Drives me nuts. I have to say that the Navigation side of things (and Carplay, but that's not Skoda's fault) is the one and only thing I find deeply disappointing about the car.

Me too! the SatNav is total crap when compared to any other fixed system! My old (1999) first generation (a whopping 150bhp out of a V6 diesel...WOW) Audi Allroad inbuilt satnav was a million times better than this, it must be said, heap of junk masquerading as a satellite navigation system!  Whoever thought out the design brief of the software & didn't think it was necessary to include postcodes to navigate too, needs a severe seeing too! & shown what a "proper" satnav is capable off!

This so called satnav system, & when you couple that with the balls up they made with the 2017 mapping upgrade, is the one thing that lets down a superb (pun intended) motor car.

Skoda, I hope you're monitoring this forum & take notice...& then do something about this....& no you can't blame it on the 3rd party providers as they are only responding to your specifications!

What we all should do is to visit our respective Skoda dealers & formally request that they complete a DISS report on each one of our concerns regarding the satnav system, then VAG will have to respond. For those who don't know what a DISS report is, it's a reporting system for dealers to report all warrantable faults or customer concerns with a VAG vehicle, it's designed to shortcut the warranty system to raise issues quicker than the warranty system can collate them. ALL DISS reports go directly to a specialised department in Germany & all are monitored & acted upon if there is sufficient evidence of component failure or design "faults", thus ensuring a quicker fix for faulty parts & poor design.

Needless to say, progress with Skoda Customer Service is slow and laborious but they have now agreed to pass the issue on to their technical people in Milton Keynes.

It has taken 5 emails and one long conversation to get to this point!

I have tried again using .asc files through the Skoda site without success but maybe TomTom .asc files are different.

I don't have access to any TomTom .asc files to try that.

I have however been back to the VW site and agree that they have done something to it which no longer makes it useable without some manipulation.

I downloaded all the files from the VW site as before but deleted the metainfo2.txt file and replaced it with a metainfo.txt file which I had got the last time I downloaded POI's from that site in December.

I am pleased to say it all worked but I was careful to download the new files in exactly the same format as my previous download, the only difference being that some of the speed cameras had changed.

Well, just to update everyone on my discussions with Skoda Customer Service, they have finally got back to me to say that they couldn't find anything wrong with their Skoda MyDestinations website and they hadn't had any complaints from anyone else.

They suggested my car was the problem and had asked my local dealer to contact me.

Needless to say I haven't heard from the dealer and that was 10 days ago, not that the problem could be sorted by the dealer anyway.

I will just continue to use the VW site with the old metainfo2.txt file and stop banging my head against a brick wall!

OK, so does mine! I've eventually found where to input them, no thanks to NO info of how too in the user manual & me being a total numpty!

Interesting.

I've been watching this topic for a while given that I want to add some POIs of my own and have had problems with the Skoda MyDestinations site.

Like you Hozz, I also emailed Skoda - and got a fault reference number and a further email to apologise for the delay but they're still working on it.

Skoda appear to be just the same as everyone else when you make a complaint - "ooo, never had that one before!"

As much as I love my car, Skoda (SUK, for the avoidance of doubt) are the single most ineffectual and intellectually challenged OEM I've ever dealt with. Staggeringly so. Their 'technical' team insists the EA888 gen3 (2.0 TSI) is direct injection only (it's not, it has dual injection as confirmed by the techs on here), they have no explanation for the second set of injectors brazenly visible to the naked eye, they have no clue about the gear ratios or final drive ratio, they have no idea about the EU testing cycle their vehicles went through (I sent an enquiry about octane), and their site has been broken for all the years I've had Skodas. I've never, ever, come across a manufacturer who answers 'we don't know' (or gives completely the wrong answer) to so many fundamental questions about their products.

When I had the Mazda 6 (2.0 Skyactiv NA petrol) Mazda had access to so much technical data it would make your head spin. They were absolutely proud of the engineering feats they'd accomplished. They are one of the only OEMs that didn't need SCR for EU6 diesels for example, and they had managed to squeeze - pun intended - 14:1 compression ratio into the petrols, without adding forced induction. Their clever 4:2:1 exhaust and modified piston crowns allowed VVT to do it instead. Any question about the powertrain, engine, its systems and its outputs was promptly answered with videos, graphs and friendly emails. THAT is how it should be done!

I wouldn't expect a quick fix for the MyDestinations site, so just keep on using the VW site like the rest of us. :dull: Oh for the time when car adverts were two pages of engineering and technical data espousing the marque's latest developments, complete with gear ratios, timing, power/torque graphs and other useful stuff. Now we get a Photoshopped image of a 'new' car in the Spanish mountains and a three foot set of letters with the car's name. The end. Apparently the modern / millennial generation buy on aspiration and image, not on capability. God help us all. :D

I agree with the comment on post code entry - just stupid, but apart from that I generally find my nav system reasonable, although not a patch on my old Garmin Nuvi.

Just updated my POI (speed cameras & included France) & can confirm it will upload from USB, had both the USB & SD card in their relative slots & the Columbus chose to update from USB over the SD!
