First of all a good bit: Mrs B actually spoke to someone at DVLA today.  🙂

But - her year of not driving (medically, not for being naughty!) is up this Wednesday, but, even having applied for the licence reissue 8 weeks ago as allowed, DVLA still haven’t received the OK from the consultant.  They’ve cashed the fee cheque though…

unfortunately her circumstances don’t come under the “once we’ve received your application you can drive pending licence being dispatched” clause, so it's just a case of waiting.

The delivery driver outside my daughter's college this morning.  He was getting all irate waving his arms about and beeping his horn trying to get into the loading bay I was parked in.   I explained to him that with a blue badge and when dropping off and collecting my daughter I could park there for three hours but he still just kept shouting that it was a loading bay.

Not sure why he couldn't use the empty one 20 yards further up the road but there you go.

I was that annoyed I even double checked I was right when I got to work (different places have different rules but I was correct)

Why the Mmm???

See below...   the bay was a loading only bay with no additional or extended restrictions and i was only there 5 minutes to get my daughter out of the car and hand her over to her assistant for the day who was waiting.

He might have been less irate and consequently you perhaps less annoyed had you told him you would be leaving soonest instead of the 3 hour statement.

I thought the driver may have had the exact same thought regarding the other empty bay but I do understand why you would have chosen the closest one.

I didn't comment and am only doing so now as you asked the question, It didn't sound like you TBH.

Fair point I guess.  But he could see what I was doing and it is a specialist college for kids with various disabilities and staff were present and also annoyed at his attitude as the bay is there due to the college and it's students, many of whom use transport services. The bay is also a big one and what he was driving could probably have fitted in behind me if he'd tried as I was tight up against a parked car just outside the bay but instead he just ranted at me.

Maybe I was a bit grumpy as I was running late as it was as she'd had a seizure this morning before we left but even so I was doing nothing wrong so he just wound me up.

As for using the other bay...   Yes I suppose I could have but given my daughter is limited in terms of how far she can walk and has regular drop seizures I try to get as close as I can...   But in his defence he wouldn't know that...   But he should know his highway code and what is and isn't allowed if his job is deliveries to loading bays.

Anyhow it's been and gone now.

The Mmm was, I thought, the most appropriate response, as, to my mind, having the right isn’t always being right.  But I don’t want to fall out with anyone, so I’ll just say I apologise if you took offence, and see my sig.

Interesting - so I have the right to use the loading bay but you maybe think I'm maybe not right to make use of that right?

Either way I didn't take offence - I was just intrigued as to your post and point of view.  I thought you might be inferring that I was incorrect and wasn't allowed to use the loading bay (I'm aware other Councils / areas operate different rules), which is why I followed up with the information from Sheffield Council.

No worries anyhow.

Cheers

Also @skomaz And where would it place someone like myself, who has a blue badge, but from an authority who do not issue a "parking clock"?

Clocks were issued by some Scottish Local Councils for many many years even though they were not applicable in Scotland.  Maybe people would head across the Border.

I got a clock 2 years ago with a badge renewal.

But then different Scottish Councils charge different amounts for Badge Renewal.

I honestly don't know - if you don't have a 'parking clock' and came to Sheffield then I would assume (given the tenacity of the wardens here and the statement on SCC's website) that you'd get a ticket??  Albeit I'd guess you could also try and appeal it??

It does sound like a bit of a flaw in the system though - as is the variance of rules and lack of consistency across the country / four nations.  I'm certainly aware of completely different rules in London for example where TfL say you can 'stop' on a single or double yellow but not park, whilst here in Sheffield you can park on them for up to three hours.

It really is a minefield and makes me very wary at times.

The only real solution is to check the location specifics every time.

Traffic Wardens in Angus now issuing tickets for parking on pavements, parking with a wheel or 2 on the pavement.

Warning first for Blue Badge Holders, they are going lightly first.  Blue badge holders should know better IMO.

I was given a ticket a few years ago, Covid time.

Parked on the one way street at the right hand pavement, drivers side, single yellow line.

The Blue Badge was where the VED Disc would have been in the past.   The Traffic Warden claimed, they do not go on the road to check the passenger side for H&S.

I told him and sidekick that i watched them up the road where people were parked on the left, going to the drivers side to see there was no badge.

I had to appeal to Liverpool.

I won that appeal.

Cheeky bitch 'from BT' just called me a big fat liar when i told her where to go and i had no phone when she had just called the land line about the security.

17 years now since the gentleman they ask for last lived here.

I had no idea she could actually see me in the kitchen, the web cam must be hidden.

The Guidance comes with the Badge & Clock.

Sorry George, I was being facetious.  Before retiring, my LA's Blue Badge team was in the team I managed.  I'm very familiar with the guidance.  I suspect where Skomaz parked was probably on a site where they make their own rules, and word parky stuff as wot they see fit.

Adopted highway under LHA jurisdiction with signage to TSRGD and TSM and the screen capture text was from the LA website with wording by the LA.   🙂

There’s been an ongoing trend in the area for blue badges to be stolen - people smashing side windows, leaning in and away. Creates more of an inconvenience than anything else - getting window repaired (neighbour had to wait nearly two months whilst they sourced window for his old Hyundai) having to pay up an insurance excess, applying for a new badge (and couldn’t be parked in disabled bays in meantime) and so on.
People now taking badges in at night or hiding them out of sight or even chaining them in frames to the steering wheel.

I probably didn’t put it properly - it seems that nowadays, many are well aware of their rights, (ie what the regs say they are entitled to do) with little or no acceptance of their responsibilities, ie when it comes to considering others.  I felt that the way you’d worded your first post on this was of this order.   You have now explained.  Thanks.

Car Transporter driver heading south on A350 at Yarnbrook roundabout, made no attempt to give way to me coming from the right on the roundabout just kept going at well over the 40mph speed limit and when I gave him a long blast on the horn (I had to brake hard to avoid an accident which he would have caused) made no attempt to slow down and just gave a long blast on his horn too!

A definite case of him Driving Without Due Care and Attention IMHO.
