Looking into a Yeti.....

Morning Exponential, I think there are several factors. Ryeman is correct, the Yeti is far less aero efficient. I'm not that familiar with the comparative weights offhand. The Golf had between 5,000 - 10,000 miles on it during my ownership, the Yeti is brand new, less than 1,000 miles during the test period. Also, the Golf figures were taken in summer months, May until October, while the Yeti miles were all November. The Yeti fuel computer is surprisingly accurate, only a decimal point difference between that and two brim to brim calculations.

I'd say the main factor is the aero efficiency, although I do have a niggling suspicion that the peachy Golf 1.4 tsi engine is a little bit more efficient for the job. If that same engine had been available to me in the Yeti I would have taken it, but overall the Yeti 1.2 is for me, all things considered, a better car than the 1.4 Golf was. I love the Yeti, just more my thing.

Morning Peter.

You make a valid point, the Yeti is definitely not an aero efficient shape (certainly not for motorway journey's anyway). It's all about power to weight I guess. 1.4 uses less fuel to get to the required speed compared to the 1.2.

Can I ask what actual MPG you achieve in the Yeti and what sort of driving? Is it mostly stop start or a mixed bag?

  • Welcome. The Yeti would be perfect, but is life not happier if the driver gets a car they like the looks of? Plenty petrol MPV's around to choose from. Nissan Dealers will have a Note or Mic

  • Earlier this year I moved to a Yeti (SEL 1.2 Drive) from a Nisan Note.   As much as I love my new purchase, I found the Note to have more rear-seat legroom than the Yeti. I am 6'6" and adult

  • Have a long look at the boot space in the Yeti, since it might be a bit tight for a family of 4. If it has a spare wheel, this room is reduced still further. The car itself should otherwise be fine an

My MPG fluctuates a lot. Yesterday I drove around in a lot of start stop traffic and also empty roads with a 40mph speed limit for an hour and a half and I ended up averaging 30mpg. It read 38 at one point, but also 27 at one point.

And this is my dilemma. If you go to my original starting post I explain how it's proving difficult to choose between keeping an old diesel or buying a new petrol but the more people that contribute to this thread, the more I'm seeing a trend of fairly low MPG unless plenty of motorway miles are done.

I don't want to end up in the same boat as I'm in now...

I think maybe (and im sure this has been mentioned) I should hire a Yeti for a week to see for ourselves the true figures....now to find somewhere to hire one! :D

Morning Exponential,

I've been getting 38.5 mpg on very mixed driving, a five mile return to the shops most days, some longer runs on A and B roads, not very much motorway driving. I am hoping to get low forties once the car is run in and with some summer miles. If so, I'll be happy with that. I am keeping a light right foot to encourage it.

I get usually 33-34 MPG and that's in a 2.0 diesel with 190BHP. Hence the reason I want to change my car...

I don't think I'll ever be happy to be honest! :D

I think you're doing quite well there mate. Like you said, it's needs to be "run in" yet...

I seem to be getiting between 47 and 55 on the maxidot for longer journey average in my current  150 dsg. The previous greenline was always over 50 and often up to 65 on a gentlly driven trip.

Looks like you need to find a Greenline which hasn't had the fix.
