Sat nav not working and cannot upgrade map

Featured Replies

I'm properly stuck here so perhaps someone can help me out!

I picked up a second hand 2016 Octavia Estate... exact model is Octavia 1.6 TDI CR-110 SE-Business.

The guy in the garage sent me the SD card with the maps after a few weeks as he could not find it the day I bought it.   I just got the SD card...

I Tried turning on the engine, put it into the SD1 slot in the glove compartment, I hit the "NAV" button (topright), then the screen says "The source contains the navigation database".

After a few seconds, the screen changes and says "Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data".

I tried looking at the contents of the SD card on my laptop, and I downloaded the latest maps using the Downloader tool.   The download was over 12GB, but the SD card only has a capacity of 7.6GB!

What gives...?! Is it possible he gave me the wrong card?

I also have an observation that the data structures of the files is quite different in the downloaded zip file to what's currently on the SD card...

For example, on the SD card, I see

\markets\eu

In download, i see STD2_915_EU1_2018\maps\00

...just two examples, but the folders are completely different.

Any ideas?!

Thanks a lot!

Firstly, is it a Skoda branded SD card, or a generic one. I.e. SanDisk, Samsung etc. Amundsen requires a genuine Skoda SD.

Assuming genuine, you may need to copy off all the data, reformat the SD to FAT32 4k cluster size, then copy the data back to it. Then you can overwrite with the update and it should fit. See thread here:

It is a skoda branded card.

By the way I have no idea if it is amundsen... I tried looking in the system information etc.

I'll give that formatting a go later so. Thanks a lot.

If it’s a Skoda card and the car is in manufacture warranty I would be tempted to go to a main dealer.  To be honest I wouldn’t have accepted the car without the nav working.  Was this a Skoda dealer or indipendent garage?  I suspect if the latter the dealer has obtained a card of t’internet that is corrupted or incorrect for the system in your car.

Sounds to me like they've given you the SD card from a MIB1 unit (notionally 8GB in size) - but you have a MIB2 unit in your car (which is what you'd expect for a 2016 model, and matches the 12GB download size you report).

If you can post images of the card and headunit we can confirm.

Thanks a lot for that. I'll post them tonight so before doing any format on the card.

Yep - that's an 8GB card for the MIB1 Amundsen system fitted to earlier Octavias (built before calendar week 22 2015).  You can see that from the date on the card (calendar week 45, 2014), and the fact that you said it was only 8GB in capacity....

You definitely have a MIB2 system in the car - that can be seen by the fact that you don't actually have a CD/DVD drive in the glove box, just a blanking plate.

The dealer has given you the wrong card.  The Amundsen systems will ONLY work with an original Skoda SD Card.  The only way you'll get it working is thus with a genuine Skoda SD card for the MIB2 system - which should be (I think...) 16GB in capacity.
