I've always run my tfsi cars off 98 or higher octane fuel, noticeable performance and fuel efficiency increase.  I havent noticed any problems on my Karoq, admittedly I only picked up yesterday, but have driven through heavy traffic, up steep hills and motorways and haven't noticed any of the issues, yet.  Maybe it is a software issue and as mine has had a patch?? Mine is 1.5 dsg

Seems that manuals are more affected than dsg’s.

Hope it stays like that for you,

To save us all having to look it up, does anyone have the contact details for Skoda Customer Services, please? Oh, and BBC Watchdog as well?

Thank you and hope so too.  Be interesting if someone took their one to a legitimate tuner and have it on rolling road and see what the fuel map is set to.  I'm pretty sure this is a software issue to get through emissions testing, so super lean to get moving and slow pickup until up to a set speed.

agree with you Ozzy, reminds me of the good old days when cars had manual chokes (showing my age!) if you didn't have it out far enough or pushed it in too early engine would cut out.

Progress eh!

You've just given me a bad flashback to 1988 and my manual choke Citreon AX GT.:tongueout:

Thank you for the Skoda and Watchdog contacts; I will write.

Three or four months ago, a friend bought a 1.5 dsg VW T-roc - I'll ask him how he's getting on with it. As we don't seem to hear about many 1.5 dsg problems, I wonder if the automatic gearbox is able, to some extent, to mask the issue.

Let's also get WHICH? involved - they are there to investigate issues and protect consumer rights. Contact details www.which.co.uk

Go to 'more from which', then 'about which', then you get all the contact details. There also have a Press Office you can contact directly. I'm sure they would love to start a campaign on this issue.

For info Which also offer legal services, specialising in consumer rights at a fraction of the cost of solicitors www.legalservice.which.co.uk

Just to add to the annoying things about the karoq, I got a puncture this morning and all 4 of the tyre garages I visited said what strange size tyre that is and we don’t stock them! Therefore one is in order for Monday and the car has to stay in the work car park till then, oh and of course there’s no jack or wheelbrace, just the pump up kit which was of no use in my situation but I no surprise there, I’m going back in to skoda next week to see if they’ll take it back and swap it for a lower spec second hand kodiaq or Octavia :@

Worth a go, so far What Skoda and the Telegraph have not even responded to me.

That sucks, but if you didn't order a spare of course it wouldn't come with a jack or wheel brace.  I ordered all mine off ebay and saved £200 off of stealer price, even got the polystyrene tool holder from a Seat Ateca.

I appreciate I didn’t order a spare but I just think common sense would be to at least put a jack and brace in so you can at least remove the wheel if the inflate kit is of no use which it was this morning.

fair play, i still find it crazy that a spare isn't standard equipment on motors nowadays.  I know it's probably for weight saving, but still, i've only used a tyre repair can once many years ago and it was useless, so have specced all my cars with spares since, but now they are asking crazy money so thats why i purchased off ebay

I totally agree with you but with the odd size tyre, the first gear issue, the door rattles, the window squeak and the infotainment system freezing on phone calls I’ve had enough, surely they’ll take it back and give me something else for the same monthly payment or am I being naive?

How long you had it?  Coz the finance has been taken out on your current car, they’ll have to pay off outstanding balance and start new finance. I have a horrible feeling you’ll be in negative equity so will have to pay the difference between how much they’ll offer and how much is left on finance. If it’s less than 14 days you can give it back no issues.

I’m just gonna see if they’ll swap it for something of similar mileage and value with the same monthly payment, not arsed about the price I’m paying, just want to enjoy the car.

My car was with Sloda finance and they did a full investigation and they refused to take the car back as they said that Skoda knew there is a problem and have to be given time to fix the problem and as they have said that a fix is being worked on then I had no grounds to refuse the car. But they did give me a large cheque in way of compensation.

martin1199 how long had you had the car before you rejected it? Did you continue driving car after Skoda said they did not have a fix? If Skoda know there is a fault and cannot fix, by law, you have a right to reject. This sounds like bribery.....

How did you do this?

I have been in contact with my dealer and am waiting to hear their suggestions to put things right for me.

They know I'm not happy and have even said I will change back to an Octavia if needs be,

Just go and contact the finance company and tell them you to refuse the car then they have 8 weeks to investigate and get back to you

I had the same issue with tyre. Had a puncture and had to change to spare. Thankfully I bought a dealer stock that had spare tyre fitted. Getting a replacement was a real pain in the backside. Similar issue with nobody stocking it. Eventually tyresonthedrive had one and fitted the next day, was not cheap though - £138 for 1 tyre plus fitting and as only one bring done came to over £160!!! Not happy!

What size wheels/tyre are we talking here?

Interesting as I was thinking of winter tyres soon. Looks like it might be an issue

As this thread is entitled 'First gear issues', could the mods split the equally important 'tyre' discussion onto a separate thread, please?
