No rust on this one yet thought I'd get in first, I am restoring a Manta GTE Coupe which will be getting the full treatment, it was taken off the road in 1988 at 34k when someone made a bodge of fitting a Mantzel kit so unusually the chassis rails are good, it's fixing the rear quarters which were butchered for the bodykit  that shall be fun as they look quite intricate in places, I have sourced 2 panels I just need the courage to start cutting the old ones off !

Top tip - before and during work  photograph, photograph and photograph some more from different angles! When cutting out stuff and rebuilding it's easy to get positions of edges/mounts wrong. So before starting any cutting, measure and document numerous reference  distances from different angles. I made the mistake of not doing this - er once - and had to go to an identical car to measure up and I created a wooden "jig" out of timber and dowels that I tried against the old car and then the car being restored! The old statement of measure three times and cut once applies.

Sounds like you have got a good start of a project. I don't know which panels you are replacing but be careful when welding as you don't want to start rust behind the panels. Originally most panels will have been spot welded but this is difficult/ possibly impossible to re do on a whole car. Instead I used to drill the lips/edges of new panels and pudle weld through the hole and then neatly grind back at the same intervals as the original spot welds. Then "blather" behind the scenes in oil so it soaks into seams followed (next day) by something like waxoyl.  This reduced the heat impact on surrounding metal and minimised any future rust (welded metal inc surrounding area can be prone to this.

The pop riviter is your friend to position (or reposition again and again) stuff before bringing the welder into use. Also gest a good earth onto all of the metal bits - rather needed for MIG .

Sorry for going off the original topic...

Had a good chat with my local dealer today and both the knowledgeable sales guy and the service manager were aware of the 1.5 issue although they said some of the cars they look after don't do it. They said a software/firmware update will be available soon - we shall see.

Tell you what though - I quite like the 1.0 3cylider tsi . There is also a Sportline version coming out that DOESN't have the front seat back pop up tables which I don't like as it restricts rear leg room.

I have it and have had no problems at all (touch wood), quite nippy and does the job well with the DSG box!

Rayx, what you say makes a lot of sense to me, however, I cannot explain why this issue occurs only in 1st gear and not others? Also, if you let go the clutch completely without touching the accelerator pedal the kangarooing does not occur anymore - you can accelerate then without issues. At least this is how my car behaves.

People here state that in reverse also doesn't do it.

What is the relationship between 1st gear, clutch and accelerator?

Neither I have any other idea, why this behaviour is that much noticeable in 1st and less in others, not in reverse. But modern engines, all are managed by ECU maps, so nobody can say withou proper diagnose/log, how and what differencies could engine manufacturer include in engine management, where they tuned the relationship you ask about.

All owners can do exactly the same what you have done, on stationery standing car, gearstick in Neutral  or those with DSG on Parkining too, just try to raise the revs (1500-2000-2500) and keep the foot on accelerator steady as much you can, how will react the engine then? Will the rev indicator unstable, will the engine jump in the engine bay? Will there be any difference between cold, warm and hot engine? Those who have any diagnostics, they can check the Misfire counter on each cylinder too when they check that mentioned Camshaft adjustment

Without that we can only wait till any update from VAG would solve this or not, according their estimate in second quarter 2019. Meanwhile we could discuss endless without a clue what is the cause for this issue, do not mention the rust protection of well known Mazda cars ...

My Dad bought new in 1975 a blue Opel Manta Coupe then in 1977 a silver Coupe with black vinyl roof including sunroof. Then he fitted a set of Wolfrace alloys which were all the rage at the time. It cost over £6,000 at the time and me and my brother (12 and 14) got envious looks from most of the kids at our secondary school if Dad picked us up or dropped us off. This is where my car bug and modifying them started.

MISSING WORD

I had a 1976 Blue Manta Coupe which is where my love of them started, sold it as a student sadly when it started jumping out of first gear for 250 quid with an MOT   (long time ago), blimey near 30 years .......as couldn't afford to fix it, had a few Capri 2.8's and whilst quicker they couldn't match the Manta for drivabilty. I have 99% of the bits for this one now I just need the time to work on it!

Back to Skoda matters I'm awaiting my call today as to where to take it for further inspection, I eagerly anticipate my 3 pot Fabia courtesy car ( if I'm lucky and don't get the Citigo!)

When my 2016 Superb had its 10,000 mile service they apologised to me saying sorry we only have a Citigo Monte Carlo but I enjoyed ringing it's neck on the way home.:tongueout:

If I go to the Sheffield branch they mentioned where they need it for 2 days minimum it should be great fun coming back over the tops/snake pass back to Glossop  just had our first light dusting of snow too!

It seems I'm booked in to RRG Rochdale, 4th of Feb is the earliest with a courtesy car.

That's my local dealer. Very interested in what happens

I rang the Dealer Principal posing as Customer Services Skoda UK and requested the courtesy be a top of the range Edition Karoq 1.5Tsi manual. Hope you appreciate all my effort.

Did you not consider requesting that the Sales Executive gets their stuff out of the Kodiak vRS  and they fuel it up?

You should bring yours along at the same time

Anyone else dealing with Alex Lawrie/Johnsons in Liverpool about this issue?

Are they saying there is a fix coming?

The fix might be there in the Scala or the new Skoda Katchagoogoo Small SUV.

A member posted this in a thread in the Yeti section.

Go to 15 minutes.

They say Q2. They didn't say which year though....;)

@Markyj They revealed the document shown earlier in the thread stating 2nd quarter of 2019.

Now, that may be when the update is expected / released, but when customers are called in for the update to be applied who knows. I was informed that now that I have made them aware and my vehicle is on the affected list, I will be notified to arrange an appointment for the update. I assume that is opposed to being notified at the time of the next scheduled service, or have it done sneakily without you knowing.

So if you're vehicle is affected I would take it in and have it documented and get yourself on 'the list'.

?

Would / will VW Group be cheeky monkeys and roll out 'the 1.5TSI fix' on Skoda & SEAT's first, then seeing how that goes then do VW's and Audi's.

Na, that really would be a bit Vorsprung Durch Technik too far.
