Can the sub be powered straight off head unit?

Where are you placing it?

Yup i didn't replace my Columbus.

The sub is below my passenger seat, just nice even with the underseat drawer.

Haven't posted in ages, almost 8 months now since I picked up my car and 12k miles done. The car hasn't missed a beat and I'm delighted with it :) it's just a really good all rounder. I find I mostly cruise along but it's great to have effortless overtaking and the possibility of some spirited driving on the right road.

Best bits;

Strong performance, fun and easy to drive with a nice gearchange.

LED headlights

Infotainment + Canton - Brilliant, Apple Carplay with Google Maps on the large screen is lovely.

Worst bits:

Sound generator, especially since it caused a really irritating vibration in the dash. Turned it off after a few days.

Exhaust makes a pretty nice sound when revved hard but I wish it was a bit more exciting like the i30N. I guess it's in keeping with the character of the car.

The excitement you seek becomes a right PITA when you're doing 16k miles p.a.

I've got the DCC to make it a more pleasant place just to do my 11k miles p.a.

Managed to do the commute today without exceeding a single speed limit (not easy with 340PS) and averaged 43.2MPG (when 42.8mpg is the combined figure for a 245PS car with a manual gearbox).Range so far after completing 159 miles is 295 miles left giving a total of 454 miles. Just for Tony 85 GREEN LEAF'S on today's trip and 86 Green One's on SINCE REFUELLING. Your 7 speed DSG boxes should in theory give better MPG but in reality I bet the constant up and down the gearbox actually uses more fuel.:tongueout:

So first trip in the car over 40mpg yesterday, sadly it wasn't me but the Mrs who achieved it. Not all bad as I was given a beer pass while we were visiting friends. Granted most of the route home was motorway and dual carriageway but 42.5mpg ave for the trip, I'm quite impressed. I did the cross country route out and got 35.6mpg ave which really wasn't bad at all. Granny mode driving (feels like to me anyway) required with my wife and son in the car always :)

Takes me 13 miles to reach 40mpg and then 15 miles to hit 41mpg for comparison if anyone wants to check against their car.

First service due in 1,000 miles popped up today as a reminder today at 17,698 miles, due mid January 2019.

just out of curiosity as the variable servicing is based on different parameters how have driven the car generally

this is a service that could be anywhere from 12k to 20k ?

70% of my mileage is cruising between 2,000 to 2,300 revs in 6th gear on the M1 so very easy on the car. Very rarely go anywhere near the redline due to copious amounts of torque and power down the rev range hence my exceptional economy average to date of 41.12mpg.

similar to me then so hoping mine will be close to that as I have it for 2 years on 12k a year so hoping for just one service needed

thanks

17th August my car was one year old and managed 12,500 miles but been racking them up much quicker since then. More than 5,000 miles in just under 4 months LOL.:D

had mine at the beginning of May 18 and done just under 8k so far

Brilliant is this.

You don't use 7th gear then !!!!

He waggles a stick around it's missing a gear over us lot with DSGs. By all things WLTP or hybrid crappy mpg figures they give now the DSG should be way better on fuel. Lol it's one whole ved bracket cheaper than the manual

In theory you DSG boys should be getting much better economy than me according to official (VW never lie about these things do they?) figures however not much evidence of that because your too busy destroying your tyres with the childish LAUNCH CONRTOL feature. How many revs at 70mph in 7th does it show? The DSG HATCH ALSO WEIGHS 1,391KG so you have accelerate and brake an extra 21kg than my manual which hurts tyres and brakes also. Using my 18" wheels/tyres at the moment saves another 2.4kg compared to my 19" Extremes (which I sold because I hated the style) So you have to lug around either 21 or 23.4kg extra weight all the time which you guys seem to forget all the time you mention the extra gear and I saved around £1,350 in the purchase price as well so when it comes to saving money the manual wins every time and better drivers prefer manuals if you listen to RACING drivers discuss such matters.

1ST year VED for my manual was £200 then 2ND year was £140. CO2 is 150gm/km. How does that compare to the DSG then cost wise? Lucky you lease/PCP boys don't have to pay for the £200 DSG oil change due at 40,000 miles another built in cost of the auto gearbox.

I thought I would miss a manual when I decided to give a DSG car a chance. Going auto is the best thing I've done, wish I'd done it sooner frankly. Makes the drives to work far more relaxing and effortless and I don't feel like I'm missing out anything when I do want to press on. I don't feel a longing to press a clutch pedal.

Not specifically paid much attention to revs at 70mph, about 1800rpm maybe? I'll pay attention tomorrow!

You win the thread again lol A car for myself and not a practical family barge manual everytime.

I blagged a free boxster 718 launch driving day and also got a couple of mates along at their Silverstone test track a couple of years ago. We drove standard and S models both with pdk and manual boxes all back to back on their test track and out on the public roads around the main circuit itself. Which car was the best to drive? The cheapest non S without any of the fancy options normal wheels and the 6 speed manual and just 300bhp. Most of the cars were spec'd with £20k of options some of which just detracted from the whole driving experience.

A”Better drivers prefer manuals....”...... okaaaay! Most racing cars use sequential gearboxes....including LeMans, F1, Indy, WRC.....the list goes on. They use them because changes are faster and the boxes can handle more power. Also you will find most F1 drivers daily runarounds are autos....

:) Our man makes some 'awesome' posts and keeps me entertained.

For me it has nothing to do with better drivers or not - manual boxes in town/heavy traffic are more hassle/effort. Traffic levels in the South/Southeast of England (I lived in East London for 18 years until a few month ago) are so high and with a family transport the driving experience need to be smooth and effortless.. step in auto/DSG I don't regret for a second getting my first ever auto car. I mean I have sport and flappy paddle mode when I'm on my own which suffices for a bit more fun. Its never gonna be a manual and like me once you own/ride proper motorbikes (they have sequential manuals) like I've done for 21 years all cars feel slow and a bit non involving period.. they are what they are.

Last auto I drove was a Ferrari 430 on a track which was ok but the V8 engine was the best bit about the car. Then I jumped into a Lamborghini Gallardo with a manual gearbox and although the engine was not as pleasing (similar power but V10) the feeling of the click/clack through the aluminium open gate was just sensational. Also the instructor(racing driver) said that the auto Lambo's proved very unreliable and expensive to fix so they only bought manuals. The finest Porsche currently on sale is the 4.0litre 911 GT3 RS that revs to 9,000 rpm and comes with a sublime manual which makes the engine sound like a musical instrument.Michael Schumacher could drive a bit once took me in a manual Escort Cosworth with 330bhp at 140mph down Silverstones hangar straight and he didn't say he wished it had an auto box.:o
