So finally got round to checking how accurate the speedo is today. Running GPS Speedo Pro on my phone, fixed the phone holder from previous car to the windscreen. Using the maxidot speed readout to check. It's within 1 - 3 mph out.. 3 at higher motorway speeds. This is useful to know.

Only useful if you go over 73mph, which you never would of course.

We never speed do we because briskoda doesn't permit discussion of that on public roads.. You out of anyone should know that lol

It's useful for the speed averaging stuff generally at 50. Which I think is evil but effective lol

Do you think it would still be 3mph out above 170ish?

Pure speculation but I'd think it might be a 'bit' more out. You tell me? My car wouldn't do it anyway because it has a speed limiter at 155 where I was legally allowed to hit it of course :)

If the limiter actually works seem to remember seeing 160mph (in Germany of course) when mine was standard.

Taking your phone GPS as accurate then? The GPS chip is as cheap as you can get regardless what app is running on the phone.

@mumphie, any chance wind was with you on that journey? There was/is much more than usual at the moment. I'm sure A/C will make some difference though.

Possible. I’ll try the same trick again over the next few days to see if it was a fluke! Bit coincidental if it was....!

Well 24 hours with the car and a wee bit of feedback, all positive:

  • engine: silky smooth, powerful, quiet and eager to get started (much different from my diesel vRS)
  • economy: looks like it might be a thirsty bugger - 37 average mpg mix of motorway, A and local roads
  • acceleration/cruise speed/overtaking: acceleration is more rapid compared to the old diesel (not massively so) and no noticeable difference at motorway cruising or overtaking speeds
  • headlights: LED headlights brilliant! might be better than xenons(?)
  • interior light pack: gimmick but great - adds interest for passengers
  • footwell lights: like this but could see how it may be a distraction if brightness turned up to full
  • meteor grey: my kids say the car is sick (think this is a compliment) and colour works well with black pack - split headlights not a problem here!

The enhancements from the pre-facelift to the facelift is like going from an iPhone 6 to a 6S - everything is sharpened up and the whole experience is made and works better e.g. colour rather than b&w maxi dot - make sense???

Oh and Skoda Connect didn't work when picking up from dealer so don't know what I am missing - probably not much.

Indeed. The whole run goes like this, in order...

Mk3 Pre-Facelift

- 220

- 230 SE

Mk3 Facelift

- 230

- 245 SE

- 245

- 245 Challenge Edition.

The ‘SE’ variants (as I’ve marked them) have the extra goodies. The only one you can buy brand new as a factory order now is the last one on the list, the 245.

We can now add the MKIII Facelift 245 Challenge Edition to the list

Hi all,

Im excited to report that I placed my order for an Octavia 245 Estate DSG today. Bit of an upgrade from my 1.6 TDi !!

I got a bit carried away with the options and have gone for:

Racing Blue (I cant quite get my head round the Rally Green - it looks great but it’s a bit bold for me!)

Space saving tyre

Variable boot floor (Got this on my current Octy and really like it)

KESSY

DCC

Winter pack

Removable Tow Bar

Canton Sound

Columbus Sat Nav

Virtual Cockpit

Now for a very frustrating wait while they build the sodding thing!

A nice easy 45 mpg tonight, AC off, but heating on! I think 48 is regularly achievable....

In September managed 45mpg down to Portsmouth and 47.9mpg return (stage 1 remap). My best with 302bhp was 53.5mpg but probably not able to break 50mpg since stage 2. Best economy probably achieved at stage 1 for those considering modifying.

Slightly disappointed with my recent MPG, 37mpg combined back from Edinburgh to Bradford....oh well. Had fun on the twisty B roads.

Don't worry mine only averaged 37mpg over the first 7,000 miles as standard with only 248bhp to deploy. You end up thrashing it and taking it to the 7,000 redline to make up for the lack of horses. All very normal for this engine.

I'm wondering Skoda are now making an alternative to the vRS, in the SE-L, or L&K estates that are available with 4WD & the 190 PS 2.0 TSi?

Obviously down on power, but AMD Racing can offer a remap to 260 PS at a reasonable price.....

I've always regretted that the petrol vRS has decent power but only FWD, which is why I've kept the Superb & bought a Golf, which is not really big enough.

Download the accessory brochure for the Octavia and it will show pictures of everything so you can identify which one you're looking for and at the back is a list of part numbers and prices

@Scotty72At least you won't have to worry about potholes anymore

The only hole you'll find is the extra large one in your pocket, when the council tax bill comes in with a lot extra added for using it!

Think ours goes up 4% every year but is not spent on our local roads, they are shockingly bad, made slightly better in winter due to my friendlier 225/40 tyres.:tongueout:

MISSING WORD

We've just had a section of the main road where I live resurfaced and the contractors made a reasonable job of it, it would have been a good job if they hadn't bodged it around every manhole cover and drain. My old man always complained about it for at least the last 10 years due to the appalling state it was in and it always caused him pain when we had to wizz him up to the RSCH for urgent treatment to his cancer as it jolted him around and yet ironically he never got to see it as he died before it was done.

The road surface is now like a billiard table and the problem is, is that it's so smooth and quiet you don't notice how fast you're going and it's quite easy to do 40+ in a 30 without realising it as it's so smooth & quiet. :blush

The beast was 18 months old on Sunday so changed the ambient lighting to Orange (previously had Red, Green & Purple) looks better in the dark than I expected TBH.

Now only if you could change the VC to blue, green or whatever... My lighting is blue, a bit like the language in the car at times, especially when I catch up the blue rinse brigade on the way to work and they're pottering along at 20 mph or less.
