Map update

Featured Replies

SUCCESS!!!

I gave up on the SD cards (They were Sandisk Ultra 32gb Class 10). I copied the files onto a 64gb USB stick formatted ExFat. Plugged into the Skoda and after 45 minutes, voilà, all working.

What a process.... I now have 2 x 32gb cards bought especially for this that I'll now use in my Nikon SLR.

Great to see you have it working.

But very confused as to where you located P85 2020 ROW software.

As the ŠKODA portal and VW Portal are still P79 2019/2020 ROW.

Can you share a link to where you did your download?

@ope126 Sure, I got it here - http://vw-mapscdn.tdd.adacorcdn.com/P85_N60S5MIBH3_ROW.7z Thanks to @MartiniB (he had posted P84 but that threw a 404 error. He then advised the latest update was P85 so I just changed that on the link.

+1, i'm confused too.

both Skoda and VW are still on P79 for ROW Maps.

i got the P79 back in May, when it was released in the Skoda Portal.

It was released in July in the VW Portal.

I'll need @MartiniB to chime in and advise. He made a number of posts about locating the most current files?

@BRISK0DA posted this and may explain it? I don't know how he knows where the files are located on the net.

"Looking at MartiniB's links above, it looks like the maps are between two and six months old before they are publicised. If I've read it correctly, the latest download seems  to contain files from December 2018. I don't know for sure if that is the case, but  it would tie in with my experience in that the update hasn't recognised (for example) the removal of the toll gates on the UK M4, which happened at the end of January 2019."

  sorry for the silly question, is this the VW one or the Skoda one, are they the same?

thanks

i copied the files across to the Original SD card and now it says  this,    so i take it is it sorted unless it has to actually install it somewhere.

kongratulation! what a patience :)
i loaded new just as backup,
preferring Waze for daily routes and Google Maps + Waze for longer trips

i wrote simple bash script by which guessed file names of next relies

-> https://www.drive2.ru/l/545083990055323571/

on VW portal links to new 2020 files are updated only for

Discover Media(Amundsen MIB1) and Discover Media 2(Amundsen MIB2)

links for Discover Pro(Columbus) still go to previous

yes, content of files are the same and cross compatible to VW, Škoda, Seat and Audi

just last one asks for activation key after fourth update

@MartiniBAm I right that these files are pre-release and possibly beta versions that still require testing by VW?

^^^

possible, time will show

but more looks like different models on different markets can have asynchronous updates in local portals

p.s.
maps aren't firmware can't imagine what can be tested there
in few previous releases have seen half year old content inside fresh file

Not pre-release, rather u've installed a custom made ROW Maps version "MartiniB".

Not sure I’m comfortable with that. Is that correct @MartiniB?

If that is the case, can I install P79 now?

u should b able to, if u wanted to.

as i mentioned before - if the system detects a valid update in the sd-card, and u say update, it will update it.

it won't check if the update is newer, older or the same, to what is currently installed.

i'm not saying u should not trust @MartiniB's maps.  i'm just saying that VWAG do not do "pre-release" versions of maps, be it ECE or ROW.  The current offical release is version P79 for the Colulumbus/DiscoverPro systems.

MartiniB has, using his own scripts created this P85 version.  From wat i can gather, this was done by using the new updated files for the Amundsen/DiscoverMedia, in combination with the existing folder structure for the Columbus/DiscoverPro, and naming patterns.

According to the Skoda Update Portal:-

"Maps are updated twice per year, usually during calendar week CW25 and CW45. ŠKODA AUTO reserves a right to change the date of the update and possibility of outdated maps due to delay from third-party suppliers."

CW25 = late June

CW45 = early November

P79 was publisied in July, which is in sync with CW25.

CW45 has just passed, so it should be "any day now", that we see the new maps made available for us.

Thanks @JR RS. I'll see what @MartiniB has to say and go from there. I would not want to compromise any warranty issues with unauthorised maps/navigation if that was a cause for concern.

wrong wrong wrong :)
by the script were made a guess of new(next) filename
and that were based on names of previous releases files

i can't get full file list what are provided on VW server, but you are fantasizing about place my own compilation
please share recept if you know, at least for first

Glad to hear that @MartiniB. So these are genuine, unchanged files, retrieved from the VW server and does the download I receive come direct from VW server with no outside intervention?

yes

mate, i didn't mean any disrespect.

as i said before - all i'm saying is P79 is the official release.

my "fantasizing" was based on ur earlier post saying "i wrote simple bash script by which guessed file names of next relies", from which i'm assuming P84/P85 was derived.

i've got no issues with u've done

i've got no issues with wat u've shared.

its ur thing.

i'm just highlighting what is "genuine" or "official" ;)

Updated mine yesterday - what a dream!

Took a few attempts to download the update file, then about 30 mins to unpack, and then about 4 hours for the car to update it!

All good 👍

@Australians

please share current links from http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-US/Updates/ for Amundsen or PM VIN

@MartiniB  I have now joined the ranks of the "confused". You only mention Admundsen but then the VIN, so if using the VIN I get directed to the Columbus download.

These are the files I originally downloaded (P79) but had trouble updating on the Skoda. I then downloaded from the link you posted which was P85. I see that you are now redirecting us back to the original Skoda portal (P79) and specifically mentioning "Australians". Is there a problem with the P85 files you posted the link to or maybe someone has told you that accessing the P85 files directly from VW was not allowed? It would be helpful if you advised why we (specifically Australians) have been redirected back to the Skoda Update portal? My intention was to go back to the P79 "latest" update from VW for a number of reasons, not the least of which was warranty issues if anything went wrong.

I think the trouble I was having was directly related to the 32gb SD cards as when I used a 64gb USB stick the update went smoothly.

to able guess next filenames for Amundsen i need to know current (better previous too).

when i enter European VIN of Superb with Amundsen Škoda's portal offers 8 EU compilations and none ROW(MRM) as on VW portal

while after enter European VIN of Superb with Columbus there are EU and ROW
