What have you done to your Superb III today?

Featured Replies

Cheers, funnily enough it was just steady speed.. a bit more spirited, and the temp usually decreases to around 104 -106 degrees..

Like I say, I've got my eye on the uprated extra oil cooler, which should help. I dont want to be running into reduced power mode coming up from mutkurve in the summer.

Chucked a bucket of water over it. Three hours later this is the result.         Happy with that

Nice job.

I envy the space you have to get a car inside your garage with enough space to work on it under cover. My single attached garage is rammed & has become my workshop. Even if my garage was totally clear it's still not wide enough to get a modern car in it.

Thanks. It was just luck that we bought a house years ago with a Corner site. I was able to use that to add the garage with a couple of rooms above so it’s all joined to the original part of the house. It’s handy now I’m slower and not just 100%. Means I can take my time or stop altogether without worrying about it sitting there.

I got 111 oil temps the other day towing my jetski in 34 deg Brisbane heat.  Spoke to my mechanic and he said nothing to be concerned about, especially given I was towing.  He said he's seen 120 deg in remapped cars.  He did say he's used Ceratec before and noticed a good drop in oil temps, so I might give that a go coming into summer now here in Brisbane.

@Donweather As always, this is a hard thing to prove. No significant evidence of dealer's responsibility.

When I left my car, it was not perfectly clean and I had not imagined I could get my car back covered with swirled. Thus I did not take any picture when I left it.

So they could easily say swirls were there before and hidden by the thin layer of dirt. (I can also admit there are some rogue and sly customers who intend to get things fixed by the dealer, though they were perfectly aware of an issue before going to the dealer). Anyway it was 4 years ago...

@UndertheRadar Awesome work and result !!! I wish I could get the same.

But I have to say I've waited for at least 4 years to find the time to do it!!! Spending 2 days to get this result is already huge for me. I would dream of having of complete free week for that... But I don't have it

As promised pics of the overall result are available here:

I had the car in for a service yesterday, and one of the things they did was to fit new rear brake pads. I've no idea what make they are, but I can report that they work a treat. Coming home from Fort William in the dark, I momentarily glanced at the infotainment screen to press play for the CD and when I looked back up there was a red deer stag right in front of me, in the process of crossing the road. It was bleeding enormous, with more antler than your average Scottish baronial chandelier, and I can happily report that the brakes worked and that ABS really does let you steer whilst emergency braking - the car lost about 50mph in an instant and the somewhat worried-looking deer put on about the same amount. The automatic emergency braking system appeared oblivious to the whole thing, so clearly my reactions are faster than a speeding electron !

The new rear brake pads will not have contributed anything to an emergency stop, indeed having not yet bedded in they may have even increased your stopping distance, I doubt it though, the rear brakes do very little aside from when commanded by the stability control systems.

How very technical - it was just a way to introduce what I hoped was a slightly exciting story.

Cool story bro

Washed the car for the first time in 7 weeks. I clashed and polished the car with Turtle Wax Ceramic Hybrid Wax 4 months ago and it’s still beading like I did it yesterday. Given the heat, the rain, the heat, the Sahara dust, the rain etc. etc. we’ve had during that time, that stuff is amazing.

Big fan of TW sealants too.  So easy to use, cheap and last forever.

Is that the spray or paste version, I’m interested

Paste. However, I have the spray in the boot to top-up after removal of a bird strike! Bought from Amazon here.

I bought the paste from a seller on eBay here who sells it for a great price. Boxes are bit damaged, but who cares.

I also got the sealant spray for a two pack deal on Amazon sold direct from TW here.

LOL only the ebay link works, the Amazon links revert back to this page!

WTF???

I’ve tried putting the links in again and they were added then they were removed, replaced with the link to this thread, so here’s a direct cutnpaste….

I’ve never seen 116c oil temp, even when running for 2 hours at 90mph in France in August with the outside temp at 32c. it remained steady at 107c. I have a Racechip GTS Black and XLR Pedal Box, which pushes 330bhp.

What sort of driving were you doing?

I have seen 120C oil temp on my last Superb which was a 150bhp diesel.

It was actually when I was running for a long time in hot weather at high speed on a French autoroute.

I suspect most of time people don't look at the oil temperature so are probably not aware of high temperatures.

I now have a 190bhp petrol which runs significantly cooler though it does have a factory fitted towbar and I think that means it has an oil cooler fitted too.

I may be wrong, but I think tow bar option includes a 2nd fan to increase coolant system efficiency.

This may explain, why your 190bhp petrol engine runs much cooler. ;)

+1

I think I read that somewhere too - "Skoda fits an upgraded radiator and oil cooler for the gearbox when a towbar is factory fitted, to allow the vehicle to happily stay inside operating parameters while towing at full capacity."

They do this in Aus as well?  I’ve not heard of this when getting quotes for factory fitted towbar.

If factory fitted - yes, because Australia is a "hot country" classification. PR code is 8Z6.

PR code for trailer preparation is 1D7.

If dealer fitted or aftermarket - it won't have it, unless it came with Towbar/Trailer Preparation.

PR-1D4 = Swivelling trailer hitch

PR-1D0 = without trailer hitch preparation

PR-1D7 = with trailer hitch preparation

If factory fitted, u'll have both PR codes 1D7 & 1D4.

So if you have the 1D7 code all you need is the Trailer Detector Control Unit (J345) and the wiring to the socket, and the socket near the tow bar. Install that then you need to get the car coded at the dealer (or do it with VCDS if you have one).

Wish mine was looking like that. Not worth cleaning it now that winter has set in & there's a building site down the road from me which is dragging mud onto the roads. I drove past it the other day & now my car now looks like its done a Welsh rally stage.😖

When something is lopsided on my car it bugs me endlessly. As a result I’ve been wringing my hands about what to do with one side of my Superb 206/280 exhaust tips being 7mm lower than the other. Apparently it’s always the left side too 😂.

After spending a few minutes with my head under the rear end hiding from my kids I realized a marine grade snail clip around the exhaust hanger was the perfect answer! Two minutes later, perfect symmetry and infinitely adjustable for about $2.DD47D262-D420-496C-A4C9-2710966DB68D.thumb.jpeg.8a95ebff1603f3255ba69e39f4bb0e77.jpeg (Just don’t ask me if the vRS badge is straight…🤔)4F089EFB-25DF-40EC-AF84-615DA7290B61.thumb.jpeg.97b826cc74137e0893293b0e7763405c.jpeg

Always good to see symmetrical pipes. Are you with or without exhaust Flaps?

Is the 280 badged as a VRS in Aus?

No, it's the same as the rest of the world.

Just some driver's personalisations.

Skoda doesn't have a Superb vRS in any market.
