I renewed insurance for my 280. Same price as last year (with same conditions and 9 vs 8 years NCB) actually so am very pleased.

Probably right, but surprising to set JCB code instead of VAO when they install a Varta.

But it has already been said, in truth the only parameters that really matter are the type of battery, AGM or EFB and the AH rating. As long as they have been inputted correctly then the battery will charge correctly.

Last year was More Than (online only policy). They quit doing car insurance this year from September so my new insurer from Jan is with Aviva Zero (online only).

Yes, I know that.

Just surprised, as car manufacturing is 'just-in-time' production and since they exactly know what goes on which car, I had assumed they would have adjust the code to the battery manufacturer.

But, if you consider cost killing, why developing something that is useless?...

I still don't understand...

But not a big deal. It won't prevent me from sleeping well. 😁

Here is a list of things I did last week (and probably the week before too):

- Replaced the battery with a Bosch AGM 70Ah. Turned out the factory-fitted one just needed topping up with distilled water and a recharge...

- New Valeo Silencio? windscreen wipers.

- Winter rubber floor mats and a rubber boot liner.

- Winter tyres 18" WIndforce Snowblazer UHP.

- New maps and firmware for the Amundsen.

- A bottle of Turtlewax leather care to give it some shine.

Why indeed. So much of what is built into these cars is useless and when it goes wrong causes no end of trouble with what you'd think were completely unrelated items. That said, without them this forum may not need to exist.

My insurance literally doubled in July. Went from £267 to £590. Managed to get it to £390 through Chris Knott, a Briskoda sponsor. It’s the underwriting insurance cartel which has got together and decided to rack-up the costs. Blatant profiteering.

Mine went from £550 to £897

Ironically I had quote that if I had a stage one, aftermarket alloys and lowered it would have been around £225 lower!

Thanks so much for sharing, really interesting.

My OEM Xenons remain more than adequate but the vid has confirmed I should stick with OEM bulbs if I need to swap.

I still prefer the old school option of replacing the front grill with mesh and adding a bank of additional lights behind it for real bright coverage LOL

Just found this new video that has done some actual tests on after market lamps v OEM the results might surprise you.

Thanks for sharing - A great review to sort out the hype from reality.

Hi guys,

I´ve recently read a post or a thread on this forum about fuel nozzle cleaners, but I can’t find it again.

AFAIK, it was saying fuel injectors cleaning is not recommended in user’s manual, if using a fuel additive.

Does anyone remember this and the thread dealing with it?

TIA.

One of the reverse lights have gone out - two years for NZ$10 I can't complain about, so bought the same pair again. They have reduced the diode count however I reckon they're brighter, we'll see how long they last though (not sure if they'll last as long).

Sunroof seal replaced yesterday, one less problem! :AP-Smiles_u1F642:

There's now only the inner ski hatch handle problem to solve. I've removed the armrest to make access easier.
The good news is that nothing is broken, one part has just unclipped (the banana-shaped lug, which allows the handle to pivot).
The bad news is that I haven't yet figured out how to open the armrest shells, to put the little lug back in place and the plastics shells are very rigid. I'm stressing not to break parts because I don't really know how to disassemble the shells. I need to look in the workshop manual to see if there is anything, but I'm afraid it's too detailed to find any information. 😐

I've removed the carpet on the backside, because I assumed there could be clips. I was right but I did not tried to unclip them yet.

Last thing, not done on my Mk3, but on a the Mk3 (L&K MY18) of a friend who wants to sell it. I've made a very deep clean of the inside. Leathers, carpets, windows, boot. Amazing result, since it was a beige interior. She was stunned, almost did not want to sell her Superb anymore... 🤣 Hopefully, she has ordered another brand new Mk3 L&K (TDI150 / DSG7) in meteor grey and black interior, which we saw by the dealer, as I got mine back yesterday. She should get it within the next weeks. Very nice specced one!

Is it this one? Incidentally, I use fuel system cleaners occasionally in both the 280 and the Focus.
I use a product produced by a German government-approved manufacturer which was imported by my best mate, which was sold to independents and also Halfords and a couple of other bigger players.  It’s amazing stuff. The Focus travels just 3 miles a day and the MPG on the Focus goes from 20.5 to 24 which is amazing. This improvement generally lasts 4-6 months. I use it in the 280 annually, as my commute is the same as my wife but, of course, the engine is far more efficient.

What's the fuel cleaner you use & is it OK to use with 99Ron fuel?

I would have driven it for the first time this week, but it has decided to not start. Then again it is -27 out, so .. just hoping I haven't got a dead battery. My CTEK is unfortunately in work warehouse, 3km away, and the other car has decided to run on only 2 cylinders. That's currently in a heated parking garage, warming, to see if that cures it. I kind of hope it won't so the problem is easy to find, but I need this car running in the near future....

I only run the 280 on Momentum. I’ll check it when I’m home tomorrow and let you know, Colin. The chemical isn’t imported by my mate anymore, so you’d have to contact the manufacturer to find out if it’s still imported. They also make diesel fuel line and DPF cleaner too.

👍

car started after some charging with the MXS, and I used it again today (after driving for an hour or so last night... well, around 30min driving, 30 min idling, as people do here when it's 30 below - you don't stop the car, you get out and return to it later) - and it's been charging again tonight at the warehouse and again plugged in. Still only "orange" on the Ctek, though, so I have a feeling the battery may be on its last legs.

Also some interesting judder - or thump - with power going to the rear. Was sliding it around a corner and - da da da - hmm. Maybe a dodgy bushing on the rear axle? Haldex oil was done last year. Will need to send it to service again as well.

Now to decide: should i keep it or swap to a petrol 272? decisions, decisions...

There's no decision! 272, that's it! 😂

280 is better.....

Booked mine in for a service & MOT at the end of next month.

I've only done 3,000 miles this year (much the same as last year) and it's spark plug change time too so all quite pricey considering the distance covered.

what's 8G3 on headlights? SLA or just bi-xenon?
