Have you got a link to the camera you got please?

I’ve been debating whether to get one, as long as it’s 100% plug and play, no cables to cut and splice into I’m interested.

Looks like your car is a 2016 too, mines an estate if that matters for the camera link

Thanks

Hi

100% plug and play. The yellow plugs are quite tight to push together, and I had to do a hard reboot of the radio for it to recognise the camera (press and hold power button until it restarts)

If you have an electric tailgate the inside of the button is a bit awkward to get to due to the closing motor but it can be done without removing it.

There’s various versions on this link for different button types but it’s camera A that I ordered.

You will need some cable pulling rods to be able to route the cable. And fitting all the cables back in behind the radio is a bit of a pig.

There’s a couple of good videos here for fitting/cable route. Don’t worry about the cabling on the richter one, you don’t need to be splicing wires with this camera.

That time of the year for me to do the Interim 6-month service. Oil change and tyre clean (inside) & rotation 🙂

When I first read your post I thought you meant you actually take the tyres off the alloys, to clean the 'inside' of the tyres before putting them back on the alloys!.

That really would be detailing!

I now see you meant clean the inner side of the alloys & inner side of the outside of the tyres.

The only people who usually see the inside of the tyres are the tyre fitters.

Lol, that would indeed b next level cleaning!!

Objective was to rotate the tyres, front to rear, rear to front.

So while I was at, it was a good chance to give the inside of the rims a good scrub n a clean.

Good work. You can get barrel brushes to clean the barrels and wheel mitt to run round the inside of the spokes, but that spoke count doesn’t make it easy - those aesthetics come at a price.

Don't push him, he could do it! 😂

Well it would seem in running the cable for the camera through the rubber gaiter by the boot hinge, I have damaged some cabling for the interior lights.

Lights work ok until boot opens to full height then they go off. Have to close boot and lock/unlock for them to work again. I assume the BCM notices the break and cuts power to all interior lights and the lock/unlock reboots it.

With boot part open I can wiggle the rubber faster gaiter and they go off so pretty certain the break is there.

Found the red/blue wire in the wiring diagram and ordered some 22Awg wire and some crimp terminals.

So sometime soon I will pull the trim off and trace wire in the loom to either side and try to find somewhere suitable to splice a new wire in.

It does mean pulling yet another cable through the already very tight rubber gaiter!

Picked up one of these to try and control the sensors although doesn’t seem to give the options 🤔 anyone any idea on the coding for it

No. Im pretty sure I damaged a wire when pulling the cable through for the camera. It was really tight getting it through the rubber and I got a bit angry and pulled hard on it. Not ideal.

Sorry wrong Post from me

Fought my nemesis again this afternoon. Pulled a new wire through from plug under tailgate trim right back to plug behind trim on the left of the boot.

Seemed much easier to navigate the route this time. To get through the rubber gaiter I taped the wire to a plastic chopstick, removed the rubber from the bodywork both ends and pushed it through.

Lights now working well. Just waiting for the AliExpress super bright ones to be delivered.

A couple more AliExpress upgrades today.

The LED lights in the tailgate are very bright. All the light in that photo is from them.

Next up will be front door speakers once they get delivered. And then wireless car play.

With the camera do the lines move?

Do you have to pay any import fees etc?

Thinking of doing the rear camera again after the PITA of having the wrong one sent for a retrofit but not sure I can be bothered with splicing wires etc

What are the door speakers and also the wireless CarPlay you have on order?

Yes the yellow lines move with the steering. No import fees to UK. And no splicing of wires with this one. Really is plug and play.

Speakers I’ve just gone for basic dual coil pioneer ones as I’m only changing the bass speakers in the front doors as one doesn’t work and the other is crackly. Ordered fitting kit from InCarTec which comes with wiring adaptors and the plastic mounting rings, and then ordered foam rings for the front of the speakers from AliExpress.

this is the wireless CarPlay I went for. I got it for £4.90 on a bundle deal. Cheap enough to give it a shot. I’m still not convinced it won’t be a hassle in that I forget to plug my phone in to charge on long journeys.

I have ordered that camera just now, lets see how it goes, did you route via the door sills?

Yes. I went through tailgate to left side rubber grommet. Out d pillar and over headliner. Down c pillar (watch out for the airbag above c pillar. Has to be in the right place to put c pillar back) tucked in under leather down side of bench and then along bottom of door sills and up behind radio.

Worst bits were routing through tailgate and rubber gaiter.

It’s also tricky getting all the wires tucked in behind the radio.

There may be a cable tie on the wires for the radio to the frame that prevents you pulling the radio out. You can get to it to cut it through the gap just above the fuse box.

Today’s job was to replace the front door speakers which weren’t working. Thought it worthy of its own post.

Done mine today, arrived mid afternoon and have been able to do it, had prepped the car before the arrival of the kit.

Used a bike outter cable to help route the cable, they ends were tricky to get all the way in, but I used cloth tape to help ensure they don't come back out, went down the sill route and then up into the back of the glove box.

Putting the unit is a pain and also had to hard reset the stereo for it to work,

Great. well done.

Yea I had to hard reset too. Thought that after all the effort of installing it that it didn’t work! I’m still in awe of how it works without coding.

It’s been great so far. And I’m in the habit now of giving it a little wipe everytime I open the boot so it’s always clean.

Cheers, the end of my fingers hurt today haha.

My heart did sink before doing the reset on the head unit, I thought great here we go, but like you awesome that it works. I not sure the image overly is as good as factory but for something so cheap it's all good. I had to keep going back into the car to test it out, my wife thought what a loon. Funny how you get used to things or not having them, going from a Tarraco with camera's

Never enough time, but I managed to do a quick one fitting the rubber 'z' seals on the leading edge of the front doors, and a thicker 'c' rubber (with a metal strip) on the leading edge of the rear doors. Will try to make some decent photo ....

So far, after a few dozen km in inclement weather, all remained in place, and the door pillars stay clean! Been unable to notice improvement in the noise though ....

I noticed, to my horror, that the central vent grille above the screen has a broken 'lever', this means the right vent does not move side to side, only up and down. Tell me is not a dash down job and I can lever the vents' assy outside... I have only the "General body repairs workshop manual", but this is in some other section ....

Next in the list: spark plugs, haldex screen, maybe finally the dogbone ...

DSG oil change using @Bap33 's excellent guide, £69.74 for a Febi service kit from eBay and £7.19 for the filling hose and 14mm hex key needed from AliExpress.
