MInimum speed for Cruise Control

Featured Replies

My Superb III Estate manual refers to cruise control down to 20kph.

Running UK units, the best it will do is 20mph, which is a little uncomfortably high for certain islands and Junctions on my normal route.

Is there any way to get to the lower speed =14mph on a UK set up car?

Or will I have to start working in kph?

Cheers

Ferdinand

Minimum mine will run to is 20mph.

Cruise shouldn't be used on Islands and Junctions. It can not detect objects from the side.

It is designed for Motorway use as described in the manual.

The ACC will go down to zero mph. Lane assist works from 40 mph.

If you want to control your maximum speed, select the Speed Limiter.

A fair point - in part. The 20mph/kph refers to the lowest setting for the maximum speed for ACC, which is what the OP asked about. I use my ACC regularly around town (though agreed not on islands or junctions), and it needs to be watched carefully or you go straight through red lights if there is nothing in front of you. Lane Assist (or more accurately Active Lane Guidance), like ACC, also works down to zero. I agree Speed Limiter is one way of controlling maximum speed, but so is ACC.

Back to the original question - I have no idea if you can reduce the ACC "minimum maximum" speed to 20kph by amending the units setting, but I'd be interested to know, even though I wouldn't feel it to be worth it to re-calculate speeds in my head on a second-by-second basis while driving.

Are you sure we're talking ACC here, or regular cruise control?

The OP doesn't make it clear.

Speed Limiter? Pretty sure my car doesn’t have that, unless you’re talking about the silly alarm that you can switch on, when you go over the speed limit determined by nav/TSR. But that isn’t a limiter, just a noise...

The ACC I believe is standard on the SEL Executive? If not I apologise for assuming.

The L&K would also have the Speed Limiter as standard? Press the button underneath the cruise control stalk and it will toggle between Cruise and Limiter. Mine is set at 31mph.

Thanks for the replies so far, guys.

My car has both Speed Limiter and ACC. I would have to check whether SL was standard or an option.

I have done a little investigation, and switching the appropriate units option (there are several eg one for mpg / litres per km too) on the (I think) Vehicle Setup screen in the Infotainment system switches the Cruise Control speed setting to kph, and lets it go down to 30kph = 18mph), but not 20kph as claimed in the manual. That option seems to leave everything else set to Imperial.

On the use of the ACC around town - I am happy using it around town, and consider it fine for eg traffic islands with an open view. But it would be better with a lower speed option for sideroads or slowing over a distance for on-red traffic lights etc. 18mph is nicer as an option, but for gliding down the lane for the last half mile home 12mph or 14mph would be even nicer.

I also prefer the ACC gentle acceleration rather than the Dog-Just-Noticed-A-Cat nothing-nothing-nothing-whumph! response of the OEM throttle; may need to look into repogramming that or getting a pedal box.

More comments are most welcome.

I am still getting to grips with the interworking of the Speed Limiter and ACC - even spent half an hour visiting with a techno-salesman to interrogate the detail after a couple of weeks.

I managed to have the Speed limiter on and whinging at me at 20mph for a few days when moving beyond the obvious functions of the ACC.

Still working on it :-D.

Ferdinand,

The Speed Limiter will not whinge at you, it will not go above the set speed unless you cancel it or press the accelerator fully down.

I have my speed warning set to 5mph above the Speed limit, this is completely different to the Speed Limiter.

Start your car and press the button underneath the cruise control stalk. You will see a change in the display in between the Speedo and Rev Counter.

You can not have Cruise and Limiter on at the same time.

This is why I prefer ACC to the limiter. Just a personal choice, but I like the Traffic jam assist function around town. Though as I said you have to watch it carefully to avoid going through red lights / mowing down pedestrians on zebra crossings if there aren't any cars in front of you.

I have also used the Speed Limiter on my 55.....:giggle:

I succeeded setting something to warn me every time I went past 20mph, which I think was part of the speed limiter set to whinge not limit. But it could be a differen TLA.

Now solved.

Just to reiterate I have a 2016 L&K, I have ACC but I do not have a speed limiter.

I have the useless speed warning feature, nothing more.

Is mine a fake? :o

Press the Mode button to toggle if you have one.

i thought i remember reading somewhere that the MY16 Superbs does not have that "mode" button.....

Yeah I’m pretty sure mine doesn’t have that button. I’ll have to check when I get my car back. Currently driving a Karoq courtesy car after smashing 2 alloys on an invisible traffic island :D

I've got a speed limiter that's permanently switched on - she sits in the passenger seat.....
