Im interested in upgrading my stereo, is there a list of what units work with what screens etc so I can see wether I can just upgrade my screen or I need a whole new setup.
this is what I currently have in my VRS 7B2DA8F2-5229-4439-ADBA-56DB9E743DF0.thumb.jpeg.203b4a99961c73c7be35c471b9de7b3a.jpeg

I too have this set up and am looking for confirmation on screen upgrade (if possible). Am so confused by all these 5Q and 5E codes.

  • What was the old setup? That's much more budget friendly even though I do really love the new head units.  Don't suppose youre selling the old one?

  • With a small budget you might look at a compatible Android unit.   Have a read of this thread:

I too had the same and  changed it for an MBI2, It cost me a fortune, and you have to get it all programmed. In my opinion, not worth it.

I bought a unit off ATD on ebay for my daughter, £249 all in, no programming needed, It has everything and looks great. Im my opinion better than MIB2.

Not the same poster but I reckon its the ebay seller Audiotechdirect, an ebay search for Octavia android brings up this seller as well as others. The Units seem quite deep though, not sure how they fit in an Octavia.

Yes thats right, they have great units for all the Skodas, there's also a phone number you can call them on. They are really helpful.

I have the standard none sat nav stereo with single sd and cd in glove box  on my vrs estate , would screen 5E0919605N.

just plug and play without any coding or security codes etc  ( I know the app button won't work )

It wouldn’t. Your description sounds like a MIB1 and you need a MIB2 to support this screen.

What’s the difference between these two screens ?

5E0919605N

5E0919605M

5E0919605N looks to be a Bolero with a 'Setup' button.

5E0919605M looks to be an Amundsen with a 'Nav' button.

Exactly that.

Hey guys, This is Nishant from Netherlands. I'm new to this forum and looking for some experts advice.

I recently booked my first Octavia. It's a 2014 Octavia Combi, with 1.4 TSI engine. It basically had very low mileage and thus I kind of went ahead with. Only one issue this car, that it has 'swing' head unit. So i have been contemplating to install a newer and much better system. One option can be an android system, since its cheaper. But after following some threads over this forum, i got to know that I can also manage to install genuine OEM products and thus wish to check that possibility with you. On ebay I checked the availability of various head units and some options are available which suits my budget, from MIB2 specs. With that the main question is, would it be easy for me to just swap the Swing system with any MIB 2 Head unit and compatible screen? Or considering the model year of my car, I can only stick to MIB1 specs? For example, I do some see an offer with this configuration 5E0035020B + 5E0919606. Will I be able to install this configuration in my Octavia or I also need to take care of some dimension constraints? I'm aware about the component protection and coding needs. But I'm not really sure, if there are any dimension restrictions to be considered. Any help is appreciated. Pardon me if I have asked silly question here.

Another stupid question, does the better head unit also improve your speakers/audio performance? Or I need to take care of that with an addition of Sub woofer or Amplifier?

Hi all,

I am going to hopefully go ahead with this with the help from Pawel.

Is there a tool that I can buy which doesn't cost the earth which will give me:

- full car autoscan
- adaptation channels map from 5F unit in csv format
- adaptation channels map from 5F unit in raw hex format (optional, required VCDS in HW revision V2)

As downloadable files?

Thanks

Stuart

Anyone?

Given that an autoscan and CSV adaption map are both VCDS specific, I guess that'll be VCDS then! Depends what you consider the Earth costs but I think both the 3 and 10 VIN Hex-V2 editions are good value depending on how many cars you'll likely use it on.

You're other obvious options are:

- OBDeleven

- VCP (Vag Can Pro)

Although many others use OBDeleven and it can create a backup, the format is very different from VCDS.

I'm pretty sure VCP has some kind of backup function too but I'm not familiar with it.

Personally, I'd stick with VCDS out of that bunch although I am biased given I already own it ;)

Ive been doing lots of reading on this matter and think I want to upgrade my mib2 screen to the 8" FL version. Ive been spurred on by the recent fitting of the Ali express reversing camera (great shout by the way like a factory install).

My 1 question is, If I buy a 5E0919605M screen that says "component protection" at the top does that need removing or does that apply to the "head unit" in the glovebox..

It refers to the main head units, the screens don’t have any component protection on them at all, so screens are just plug and play, with the correct head unit.

Thanks for that. I hoped that would be the case. Is there much coding required to go from a MIB2 to 2.5 should I wish to upgrade down the line?

Upgrade complete. Took 10 minutes to swap the screens. It has improved the reversing camera no end and the app button works!

Having read through this thread I was considering upgrading my display to 5E0919605N as it was plug and play. I was almost certain my current system was MIB2 as it has android auto but just in a couple of previous comments I'm not sure. Can some please advise? Pic is of current setup.

@SashaGrace would you know if I am ok to plug and play as per my previous post? You seem to be all knowing in these areas 😀

Yeah that’s a MIB2 Bolero, 5E0919605N is plug and play.

Hello all,

could anyone try and identify this beast? It's from 2014 Octavia (3/5E obviously) Elegance.

It appears to have Navigation and it's pretty straight forward about being Columbus. What could be it's buddy in the glove compartment? MIB1, maybe 2?

I'm sorry I can't provide more info, as this is a screenshot from online car catalog. I'm on the hunt for Octy, and would like to get one with decent equipment - Android Auto or something and big screen being among the top few on my wishlist...

No, the dash pod comes out with just 2 screws. Nothing else needs to be removed. To get the full functionality with the map mode you need a MIB2.5 Amundsen or Columbus and a fibre cable. You allegedly need a Gateway and I think that is the thing that’s stopping me getting the map mode working but I can look more over the weekend.

SashaGrace, just wanted to ask a couple of questions about the Virtual Cocpit swap you did. The recipient car is a Octavia III? Do you know the VC part #, as I noticed there a few of these around. In terms of the wiring, is it plug and play or does this also require a wiring harness update? Lastly did you get the map mode working, if yes what was the fix.

Having done this on a MY18 Octavia I can answer some of your questions:

VC and non-VC use the same connector and wiring

- If you want maps/radio logos/contact pictures, you'll need to add a MOST (fibre optic) cable and need a MIB 2.5 headunit

- Part numbers are either 5E0920790 or 5E0920790A

I'm not 100% what the difference between the part numbers are but I'd suggest the later A revision as the software version is much higher. The earlier version might not show the 'sporty' display which is my favourite! Little extra on map mode, the Columbus can display maps on the headunit and cluster concurrently, whereas the Amundsen can only display on one at a time.

You'll need someone with ODIS with an online connection to match component protection and the immobiliser/keys. Quick few notes regarding the odometer:

- The odometer can only be set on new clusters or those with very low mileage (100km or less?)

- You can increase the odometer with a CAN simulator (adding ~4000 miles per day)

- I'm not aware of any method to reduce the odometer

As you have an pre-FL car you might need to replace the CAN-gateway but I'm sure @SashaGrace can add more info or correct me where needed :)
