Alonso's comeback at a so-so team.

Whatever happens it can't possibly be worse than Mansell's😀 in '95.

I'm not sure how calculated Bottas is being, either with the qualy run-off which should have slowed down everyone else (esp lewis) or with backing Lewis up to the chasing pack so that his penalty has a worse effect, but if it's helping Lewis realise that he's not going to get everything his own way then I'm not complaining

Bit of a stretch calling a New Zealand founded, Bahraini owned race team British, but I suppose they still enter under a British flag. As opposed to British based Mercedes and RBR which are entered as foreign teams. ;)

What is the reason that "foreign" teams race under british flags / have headquarters in britain?

Well most of the good engineers live around here ie mostly in the Midlands/South of England.   Not sure it is to do with the UK's very low corporate tax rate or if they even make a profit but the prize money and bonuses are staggering and Ferrari got more than Merc despite not winning the titles !    https://www.sportekz.com/f1/formula-one-prize-money/

Formula One... Prize Money & Bonus (Revealed)

Racing Teams          Column 1     Column 2         Bonus     & Others Total

Ferrari                    $35 Million $56 Million $114 million      $ 205 Million

Mercedes              $35 Million  $66 Million  $76 million       $177 million

McLaren                $35 Million  $46 Million $71 million       $152 million

Red Bull Racing   $35 Million  $32 Million  $33 million       $100 million

Renault                 $35 Million  $38 Million              N/A         $73 million

Haas                      $35 Million  $35 Million               N/A         $70 million

Williams               $35 Million  $15 Million               N/A        $60 million

Racing Point       $35 Million  $24 Million                N/A        $59 million

Sauber                 $35 Million  $21 Million                N/A        $56 million

Toro Rosso         $35 Million  $17 Million                 N/A        $52 million

In the above table first column represent the equal merit. Which means all teams received a fixed amount of prize money ($35 million). The 2nd column is about how F1 teams finished on points table. The prize money paid to all F1 teams according to their drivers position on formula 1 table and constructors position.

Sponsorship more than doubles some of these figures.

The best brains in F1 are to be found in the UK hence Austrian owned Red Bull and German owned Mercedes base themselves here to tap into the talent pool available. Ferrari only flourished when Schumacher was their main driver with Ross Brawn's technical skills and plenty of UK talent designing those winning cars. Look at Ferrari now with mainly Italian input they are struggling yet again.

Not to mention that works French team based at Enstone. Although their engine department is in France to be fair ( unlike Mercedes whose engines are British too)

Christian Horner ruled out a return for Vettel at RBR so the future looks bleak unless he fancies a go across the pond with an Indy Team for 2021.

FP1 complete at the Styrian GP (Austria part 2) and top five are Perez (Racing Point), Max (RBR), Bottas, Hamilton (both Mercedes) and Stroll (Racing Point). Ferrari 10th with Vettel driving the old car set up and Charles in the upgraded (new floor and front wing) version 12th. Some upgrade that.

Mugello confirmed as race 9 on September 13th and Sochi in Russia 2 weeks later as confirmed race 10.

Lando Norris picked up a three place grid penalty for overtaking Gasly under yellow flag during FP1.

FP2 completed Max fastest just from Bottas 2nd, Perez and Stroll 3rd and 4th, Sainz (McLaren) 5th and Lewis 6th. Heavy rain forecast for Saturday FP3 and qualifying.

That may be the grid if it rains too much to run qually.

Both Albon and Hamilton in car handling trouble today, but Riccardo  even worse off after crashing his Renault.

Can't wait to watch F1 at Mugello!

Saturday morning F3 race red flagged due to weather. Will it dry out enough for F1 running?

Q1 about to start 47 minutes late.

Ferrari 10th with Seb and 11th with Charles in Q2 but George Russell 12th in the Williams nearly as fast as the Ferrari........oh dear great upgrades.

Stunning Pole lap from no.44 which was 1.2 seconds faster than no.33 and good effort from no.55 to claim 3rd on the grid with no.77 taking 4th. Notice a pattern developing?

  • Author

That's more like it from Ocon.

Russel starting 11th too. Great effort.

I am wondering if Perez gambled on a full dry setup for tomorrow?

All about tyre strategy now. They can all start on anything they like.

Weather forecast looks OK for tomorrow.

Good if Lewis wins from pole and Bottas finishes 4th like Lewis last week then we would have both on 37 points at the top of the standings. Playing Devil's Advocate.😈

Which lap will Verstappen's Honda expire?

Total disaster for Ferrari as both cars out by lap 6.

Lewis with win number 85 leads home his team mate Bottas and Max 3rd in the Styrian GP with Albon 4th for RBR and stunning final lap for Lando Norris taking both Racing Points and fastest lap and the extra point to Sainz in the McLaren. Roll on Hungary next week. I believe the Prancing Horse lorries have already left the pits.

Spot the mistake.

The new aero update performed very well today. :D

According to either the BBC or FIA Carlos and Daniel have already moved to their new teams of Ferrari and McLaren after 2 races (see standings table above).:tongueout:
