Hi. I have a Columbus in a Octavia from 2013/2014 that works as it should. No errors as far as I know. Looks like the software is a bit dated though. Are there any improvements in the newer firmware editions, and is it worth updating if there are any newer for my head unit? I'm downloading new maps from vw (discovery pro) as we speak that is dated 23.11.2020. New maps is always good since the speed sign recognition then works more precise.

Two week ago I had the car at SKODA for the yearly check and for one or the other reason the downgraded the firmware.
I have - unfortunately - deleted the file you shared and the link not working.

Could you be so kind to share the link again and if there is a newer version a link to that one?

Most FW for MIB could be found here, the main idea is you can't update your FW in higher series if for instance you have 01xx you can't go to 02xx. TO check current FW, you just need press MENU for 10 sec check what is your current train like "MST2_EU_SK_PQ_P0138T" and check if any new one availiable for you. List available one you can find below, as well as instruction how you can turn it to higher series and even more funny stuff like CP OFF, unlock AA, Mirolink and so on. FOR ALL FOR FREE.

From your list I see the version I have currently installed, plus 5 additional higher versions.

 

Question:
Can I update to the next one e.g. "MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0366T_0366.7z" or could I go directly to the last one the version "MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0478T.7z"?

So folks - there are some rules that need to be adhered to.

 

As far as I am aware, the firmware numbering is quite specific.  If you have a 02xx firmware, then you need to make sure you stick with that branch of code.  Putting an 04xx on a 02xx firmware branch  onto that hardware could potentially brick it.....so be careful.

 

This means 02xx firmware branch - stays on 02xx branch

03xx firmware branch has to stick with 03xx branch

04xx firmware branch has to stick with 04xx branch

 

@pab567can you sanity check this last comment - I am fairly sure this is how VW's MIB firmware code branching works.

@varaderoguy is right. Just some comments from my side:

1. in regular conditions it's NOT POSSIBLE to upgrade from one SOP to another. SOP is firmware version family - SOP1 means FW 01xx, SOP2 means FW 02xx, SOP3 means FW 03xx, SOP4 means FW 04xx. I hope this is clear

2. Hacking makes it POSSIBLE to update from one SOP to another, e.g. from SOP2 (e.g. 0253) to SOP4 (e.g. 0478). Both unit and SW update must be hacked. Pls don't ask me for more details.

3. SOP1 units can NOT be upgraded to SOP2 or higher. eMMC is partitioned differently and although this can be changed but after such rework unit hangs when entering Android Auto or Apple CarPlay - probably there either some HW difference or additional piece of SW that is not updated. I spent multiple hours on it and I finally gave up. So whoever has SOP1 unit: sorry guys, you must have your unit replaced to get SmartLink.

4. SOP1 units support ONLY MirrorLink.

5. If your SmartLink or Voice Control is inactive then NONE SW update will made it enabled - you must either visit your local Skoda dealer or have the unit hacked.

6. Bolero versions 5Q0035819x and 5Q0035820x (x means letter A/B/C, no letter for SOP1 versions) are simplified versions, with only 1 processor, without SmartLink support and without Rear View Camera support. It's NOT possible to have SmartLink enabled for them.

Okay - that looks like an Amunsden system.  I think in theory you can go to 0478 (latest SOP-4 variant).  You also need new maps - you have the OEM 2018 maps.
