Afterall they allow you to do it for maps.

 

Unzip the file, insert the USB stick and press update, what's so difficult?

Updating the maps is "safe" i.e. if it goes wrong the unit will still work.

 

Updating the firmware carries a risk of turning the unit into an expensive brick.

True, but in over 40years developing hardware and software I never came across a flawless upgrade process - for example I currently have a Windows 10 tablet that is stuck in a permanent reboot loop after a failed upgrade, getting out of it requires a keyboard and a USB stick to be inserted into the only USB socket (hubs not supported).

Can you provide me with latest 0478 firmware, please? Or point out to where to find/ask Karoq version of it (no FE thread in Karoq section and no-one knows of it)? (I don't know if there are specific vers per car model or it is the same for Karoq as for Octavia and rest)

I have been having issues where part of the touchscreen is not responsive, where the screen is seemingly registering presses at several points with no user input and also losing the auto turn screen off setting. I'm hoping to try updating the firmware of the unit before changing the screen. @pab567 please can you advise if there is any newer firmware for my unit and send me a link to it? @JonnyFun I sent you download link via PM but according to my experience SW upgrade will NOT help in your case - this is rtaher HW issue, front panel is faulty and requires exchange.

 

@Dasi75 what is modle number and SW version of your MIB STD2 PQ unit?

I'll still apply the update (I'm waiting to get a suitable trickle charger before attempting) as I want to try to solve the issue of the unit losing its setting (screen auto off) and the screen additionally selecting other channels (may be linked to child / damp from other posts).

 

I've seen the links to the replacement screens on another post and that will be my next port of call.

No need for charger - update can be done with ignition off and takes approx. 20 minutes.

 

As I already wrote: I don't expect SW update to solve your issue.

 

Beside the screen you currenlty have you can also use 5E0919606, 5E0919605M, 5E0919605N (trhis one has no NAVI button so you enter navigation from screen touch menu).
