What size wheels/tyres will fit to Superb III

Recommended Posts

According to wheel-size.com the Superb MK3 uses 215/55R17 tyres fitted to 7Jx17 ET40 rims.

ET54 would push each wheel 14mm towards the centre of the car, so your front and rear track would decrease by 28mm.

I would keep the offset between ET35 and ET49. In other words ET42 plus or minus 7mm.

The front steering on cars is set up to suit a narrow range of offsets, perhaps plus or minus 7mm from some central point. Go outside of this range and you are literally dragging your front tyres sideways across the tarmac when you turn the steering wheel.

So looking at the website willtheyfit it shows that with ET54 its still showing  within the profile of  the existing size wheel. A narrower tyre will always mean that it is more inbound that before.

I can see that with an ET40 wheel it will be closer to the existing outside profile, just further away from the suspension etc.

Guess that it will fit, but wont be best suited to the car, and may cause issues?

I'll keep looking for some different wheels.

I would go with 215/55R17 tyres fitted to 6.5Jx17 ET38 5/112 57.1 steel rims from the Skoda Kodiaq.

I saw quite a few good fitments here at 8.5" with ET35, I am looking at Japan Racing SL01's and they are available in ET32 and ET45. As the stock wheels run ET44 and do not have a good fitment, I would be aiming to go for ET32. Does anyone have a set that they run with ET32 rather than 35? Thinking of how big the difference would be in terms of visual and suspension clearance (if lowered also).

Many Superb owners here in Oz have made the switch from 235/40/19 to 245/40/19 with no issues, even with lowering springs.

It's cheaper n a more popular size.

I'll b making the switch too from 235 to 245 once my factory P7s r end of life.

With regards to 20" rims, u can do 255/30/20 on the 280 Superb.

But comfort will b severely compromised.

Are these pics of a superb sportline?  If so what are the wheel specs including offset and no spacers?

its the standard 19" Vega Sportline and 19" Trinity L&K wheels that we get here.

Vega = 8.0J x 19“ ET44

Trinity = 8.0J x 19“ ET44

These don’t look 8” wide and ET44. They fill our way too much in those pics. Spacers perhaps?

+ closer values to real speed on the speedometer

there are sizes which have been met on different Superb III models

and there are sizes which also fits well

@MartiniB any idea if 235/55r17 would work?

Currently I have 235/45r18 and I wanted to go r17 but I feel going from 45 to 50 (235/50r17) the difference is too small to matter when it comes to bad roads/potholes and 225/55r17 would be to narrow to go from 235 feel.

Speaking of wheels, someone ran into my superb sportline at a carpark yesterday and damaged the front bumper and front alloy (Vega).  Does anyone know where you can get one new 19inch Vega Alloy from (either in Aus or OS that ship to Aus)?  Aussie Dealer (stealer) is wanting a criminal AUD$1300 for one new rim.  And yet Skoda UK only charge AUD$600 (but don't deliver to AUS).

Hi all !
I'm a private hire driver and I'm looking to change the wheels and tyres on my 2017 superb. Currently sitting on 18'' , however I need a bit more comfort, the roads In Bristol are not that great.

I am considering going down to 17'' or even 16'' plus high profile tyres. Just looking for as much comfort as possible.
Any advice?

Cheers guys !

Hi Gents!

Thank you for your previous reply, very useful !

Bit of an off-topic this one, so I do apologise in advance, but could anyone tell me if a 2017 Superb has Body Mounts? I've heard only large 4x4s have them. Is this correct? The car feels like it's not sitting properly on the chassis and I want to do something about it but every mechanic i went to said all looks good. Any suggestions?

Thanks again !

No; these only apply to trucks with separate chassis, such as Land Rover Series models. You have a unitary construction chassis body, (often misnamed as a monocoque).

Thank you so much for your reply Ken !

The previous owner of the car kind of abused it, and now it feels like the body is not properly sitting on the chassis. just feels a bit loose and unstable. I have changed the front and rear shocks and springs which has made the ride a bit closer to normal, but still it does NOT feel nowhere near as close as the 2008 superb I also own...it's that bad that on a gravel road, at night, you can literally see the headlights shaking as there would be no cushion between them and the road surface. Any ideas why this could be? Car has a tow bar mounted and it does look like it's been used a lot, so I'm just wondering what else I could do to improve as much as possible the ride quality.

Thanks again !!

A really comprehensive response from Carlston as ever. Your research is invaluable, and helped me to the right wheel and tyre choice on my Superb last year. Now very happily running 245/45/18 Michelin Cross Climate Plus on 18" Zenith in Platinum (Matt Grey Gun-metal)

Just a heads up for people who want genuine wheels, always buy the accessory wheel rather than the “normal” one

example Skoda stratos 3V0 601 025 C (8Z8) is rocking £438.07 each

But if you look at the accessory list Skoda Stratos 3V0 071 495 C (8Z8) is a £191.00 each.

Can see a number of people have 19x8.5 ET35 which fits fine, has anyone tried a 19x8.5 ET32? Common ex-Audi size. Looks marginal, but the wheels are cheap.

The standard 19" rim size on the Superb MK3 is 8Jx19 ET44. The outside edges of this rim size when fitted to the car is quite widely spaced.

By using  8.5Jx19 ET32 the outside edges of the rims will be spaced 36.7mm (almost 1.5 inches) further apart. This means that you could easily damage your rims on the kerbs when going through 2 metre width restrictions, as there's not always a lot of kerb clearance with standard wheels. Additionally, the 0.5" wider rims will mean that the tyres' sidewalls will bulge out less resulting in less rim protection.

In short, you're asking for kerbing problems if you drive through 2 metre width restrictions with raised kerbs having fitted wider rims with less offset on a car that already has a wide track.
