What would you change about your Octavia?

Featured Replies

Electric handbrake with auto hold would be right at the top of my list!!! I’d do the retrofit but I cba making a custom centre console to put the button in. Otherwise my car is fine for what I want to do with it but mine is hardly standard anymore and has every tech extra from the MY20 cars so yeah, wouldn’t worry about anything else on a car in this segment. My next car won’t be a car in this segment as I want to try something else.

  • If they did a 300hp 4WD version like the Golf R, I think it would be the best car in VAGs lineup.

My thoughts exactly. Golf is a bit small for three kids so I changed my Octavia vRS TDI 4x4 estate for this:     272ps 4Motion DSG   Lovin' it 😊

  • Less road noise and better quality plastics inside ,and the piano black door shuts are a pain with finger marks and swirls

HUD .... I drove a 'vette with it and it's just soooooo much better than the dashboard

Not necessarily something 'I would change' but more of a grumble - the right hand drive conversion on the Mk3 seems to have been a bit more awkward than the on the MkI and Mk II.

So we now have a fuse box that's requires removal of the glove box rather than simply removing a dashboard end panel by the steering wheel. This is a right faff solely due to the soft close glove box door hinge which is a menace to get in and out without breaking. There's also the issue of the center console where the cup holder is now on the drivers side, rather than the passenger in the old car - which means when i want to remain hydrated and change gear I have to un-naturally hook my arm over my bottle of fizzy pop!

First world problem, i know! 😆

Auto folding mirrors should be standard.

Apart from that, a proper LSD and yeah Golf R/Cupra power

- AWD would be nice

- Better RHD conversion (I should be used to it, coming from a Peugeot 🙄)

- User-mappable throttle curve

- Wider track (spacers illegal where I live)

- More engine/exhaust noise

- A boost gauge in the dash 😁

Think this feeds into my '90s fast saloon' love and age category but:

- More induction and exhaust noise for the VRS models. Even in 2016 the EU regs were not as limiting as OEM setup

- Wider track on rear (fitment similar to OEM VW or Audi) and choice of OEM 8.5J R19s

- Stiffer rear suspension and better anti-roll bars as standard

- Full LED internal and external lighting as standard

- @TrinityJay +1 on boost gauge 😅

- Stronger manual handbrake cable... for both mature adult 'assurance' reasons, and immature child 'handy-turn' reasons

- Better quality audio speakers

- Power dampers on bonnet as standard

Otherwise, as above, most of us knew what marque we were buying when we went into getting a Skoda. It's 3rd tier in the VAG group hierarchy, but it definitely fills the niche well in terms of weight (much lighter due to less sound deadening) and space (even with the hatch, I can fit in 2 bikes and a weeks' worth of camping equipment). Admittedly spent a great deal of money on it, but it's much more economical to modify and personalise than a lot of other brands 😎

Still very happy 3 years on!

Afternoon,

This week I've bought my first ever Skoda in the form of a vRS230 DSG Octavia MK3 and absolutely LOVE it.

However, I'm just wondering what some of you think could be improved on the model in all of its forms? Open to input on every aspect of the car (performance/tech/creature comforts/ aesthetics etc)

Interested to hear other people's opinions.

I'd like a 360° camera system.

Me three... I had an extended test drive of a SsangYong Musso the other day (don't judge me it's actually a cracking good ute for the price) and was surprised how much I missed the 360 camera when I gave it back

more power (booked in to get it mapped)

More noise (currently looking at exhausts(

AWD, it struggles in the wet with 220, gonna be a handful with over 300

Black or dark roof lining on all models and less body roll would be handy.

Cannot remember if I have already said this but wish the fuel tank was bigger ie they had downsized from 55 litres to 50 litres plus one cannot easily fill up the expansion tank like I could on the Fabia VRS and get an extra 5 litres in there.

That said  the fuel economy is very good ie indicated 55 mpg long term and did 60 mpg indicated to  LIverpool and back so effectively over 600 mile of range in the tank.

The Octavia 4 sounds like not a very great improvement, the MK 3 is over 100 lighter than the mark 2 despite being slightly bigger.

Not sure what to get next, should be electric I suppose or if hybrid then the 100 hp electric Octy with 1.4 TSI again would be acceptable but I expect it will be a high retail price but let us hope the PCP are not too bad.

I saw the original announcement of that and thought that looked good, but the price sounds like it's much higher.

The issue with most hybrids or electric cars is they're so expensive to start with it's outweighs any beneifts.    There's only a limited amount of miles you can do in an electric/hybrid car where it's beneficial.  Too few and you'll never get your money back.  Too many and it'll devalue hugely as the second hand price dives because nobody wants to buy something with well worn batteries and foot the bill for changing them.

I like the idea but certainly when I was looking at options for my parents a little while ago (pre lockdown as that's now on pause as they do no miles now) then none of the electric options were worthwhile as far as I could tell.

I think what is trying to be attained is that you do not fire up the internal combustion engine in the cities and only when  one get on the Motorway network so the 30/35 mile battery back can get you to the M25 or the M40/M42/M5/M6 and then one engages warp drive, or get to the High Speed Rail station which will get you to most places in England within the hour.

I would have it that anyone pays the congestion/IC usage charge if  the ANPR and thermal imaging camera change a user £10, £20 if they fire up their EV in an urban area for each day of usage.

They probably need to bring back a £2k subsidy for proper hybrids, not these pseudo hybrids with 1kWh batteries but the ones that can get you from the centre of a city to the outskirts without using IC power or even gets you in and out of the city with IC usage.

With a reasonable 4 miles per kWh then the Octy and Superb IVs might be able to do 40 miles plus with careful useage.

Air quality is even an issue in a small city like Worcester never mind the 10k premature deaths in London and 5k per year n Brum due to air pollution.

I'd like a CD player, which I just assumed would have been fitted, but all I've got is an SD card slot.

Genuinely surprised at that omission on SE-L spec.

It's oil burner for a 245 motor 😅

Rear seat bases on the estate that fold forward as per the Fabia mk3 estate.

I assume that most cars come without this now tbh and it's not linked to spec.

My other car and my wife's car have  CD players and I honestly can't remember the last time I used them.  I think my wife does to be fair but rarely.

I generally just either listen to the radio or stream via bluetooth.    Most laptops don't have CD slots these days, nobody buys DVDs/BluRays any more, ultimately it's a dying media type and I doubt that car manufacturers want to support something they know is on the way out.

Yeah, most of the time I listen to streaming music, but in my car it's an unwelcome novelty to not be able to simply bung one of my CDs in and listen to that.

I haven't yet tried to stream music from my phone via the car.

Griping aside, I have found out my car works just fine with a 64GB SD card, which will take a zillion MP3s, so it's just lack of familiarity, I suppose.

(I'll have to see just how big a card my car will take and work with. The sales guy said 32GB max, but I think I should be able to get a 256GB card working just fine.)

I've done that in my Honda, loaded up a USB stick.  TBH it ends up out of date after a while and I've found streaming from my phone the best option.

Esp as I use Amazon music unlimited , so Alexa works on it...

The main thing, as people have already mentioned, which I would definitely want is more sound deadening. I wouldn't say it's loud when you're at motorway speeds, but this is room for improvement.

In an ideal world I'd like my dream octavia to have; 4wd with a rear bias, a manual gearbox, a diesel with around 300hp and a mild hybrid system.

Less can sometimes be more. I have 32GB SD card plus 32GB USB drive for my music and it takes far too long scrolling through the listings to find the music that I want. (Maybe I could split it up into more folders however.)

I used to have a multi CD changer in a 2002 Mondeo, but lost some of my favourite CDs when the unit failed. Only ever used CDRs in the car after that.

The leather steering wheel covering in my old MK2 Octavia Elegance 2007 is much nicer to hold than what came with the 2015 Octavia Scout.

Electrical insulation in the MK3 is said to contain soya and seems to be more attractive to rodents. My car has just needed 11.5 hours labour plus a few parts to rectify rat damage to the wiring.

Had to get a rear bumper protector for the MK3 to save the paint getting scratched by the dog getting in and out of the boot. Not needed on Mk2 estate due to different design.

Diesel power is not ideal for my low mileage driving, but the MK3 Scout has not been available in the UK with a petrol engine.

However, on the whole I enjoy the Octavia Scout. It is pretty much my ideal car.

I know, it's a proper pipe dream car setup. But a diesel hybrid with an auto 'box is attainable. Many new buses, certainly the double deckers, have them fitted.

One of our drivers at work has just spent £21,000 on a 64 plate Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake with a 9 speed auto and 3.0 litre turbo diesel with 300bhp and 650nm (latest model is £64,000 and has 325bhp and 700nm) and rear wheel drive and he can't get the power or the torque down on a dry road even with 285 section rear Michelins. Hence it's slower than my Superb.
