Reversing camera

To be clear, all UK spec Superb’s can be fitted with rear cameras. All of them. Don’t listen to Skoda dealers, they know nothing. Owner of this car had 2 dealers say it couldn’t be done for different reasons and I heard the same story last week too. Both cars fitted with Highline camera and washer...

Thanks for clearing things up. I'm really interested and keen on getting a highline with washer retrofitted but I think I might bodge the job. I might purchase the parts for a specialist fitter.

So if the correct dataset is installed on the camera, do you still need to enable the camera through VCDS?

Is there a manual? What do you need to purchase for the washer parts, like the pipe to connect to the current system, or would that usually be included in the kit?

Many thanks.

Check your boot handle, if it is a perfect rectangle you can use any camera that is in a 112x48mm handle with the correct dataset on it so on the blue car there I used a 5E5827566G handle and the green car had a boot handle with curves on the outer edge which needs a Kodiaq handle, 566054634A. Unfortunately I’m not planning to come to Jersey but if you don’t have VCP yourself make sure the correct dataset has been loaded onto the camera you order. Both part numbers above are Highline with washer.

Sasha this is some amazing invaluable information here thank you so much.

So i did a bit more research and

1- my boot handle seems to have those curves

2-my local Skoda can only supply camera with part number as on screenshot below(would that be suitable even my head unit is 3V0 919 606 D, would that be the same camera as you suggested above?

Sorry to be a nonsense just trying to make sure I'm ordering right thing,

3- is coding it in very hard? I have access to Skoda systems so that could make it a bit easier....

That part number is fine, it’s the Superb one, not the Kodiaq one but it’s the same thing anyway. 3V0919606D is the radio screen part number, your radio will be 565035020x without SIM or 565035021x with SIM and they both take cameras, all MIB units on UK and Jersey/IOM etc cars take cameras. Coding is very easy, one change in 5F and one in 10/76 Park Pilot. Easy enough once you have the dataset on the camera but if you are adding with ODIS it’s really really easy.

Great starting to understand it a little more so thank you again.

Just a silly question- how do you get correct dataset on the camera?

Hi all, I’ve just fitted a camera and run the cables to the front to find both CANH-INF pin 6 and pin 7 CANH-INF have already wires of the correct colours in them. Are these used for another system? I’ve checked the next connector back in the flow diagram T8b pin 6 & 7 in head lining above left rear seat and these are empty. Any help would be good, also in the wiring loom at the camera end there is a short wire with Pin 1 on it which I have no idea about.

I assume you have a Kufatec loom if you have the spare pin 1 wire. You will need to make a splitter connection (I make them with TE-Connectivity parts as per factory) or you can strip and splice but I wouldn’t. It’s the performance bus for the CAN to the radio, does the angles of the guidelines. Good luck with it, Kufatec cables are utter rubbish, I would never buy from them again.

Got a kit from Cars Equipment, but looking from what you say I think they have sent a kufatec loom. From what I have since read should have gone somewhere else, but indeed I have soldered the CAN wires to the existing connectors with no errors showing. I still have to get it coded in though but if the loom is as you say pants I will probably find another and replace it.

Do you mean the pin 1 wire is not used?
I appreciate your input Sasha thanks.

Yeah they always do. I have had 2 cameras sent with Kufatec cables and to start with every wire is white which is just stupid as the printing on the cables may fade, and you can’t trace wires at a glance and of the 2 one came with a faulty video cable and the other came with half the terminals hanging off as they hadn’t been crimped properly. Their support is also shocking, no recourse at all unless you buy direct (fair enough I suppose) but I bought my power boot loom direct from them and the amount of issues I had was unreal, took 3 weeks to sort and it was only resolved by me paying for VAG wiring diagrams and correcting their mistakes. I would have the Chinese looms off AliExpress before a Kufatec one.

I refuse to take cameras with Kufatec cables now for the above reasons as well as the tightness of not supplying the TE Connectivity splitter connections which, again, come with the AliExpress cables at a quarter of the price.

And Pin 1 isn’t used, no idea why they fit it.

The nearest I found with the pin 1 was that due to the length the only thing it could reach was pin 1 of the wiper motor (which I don’t have ) I believe is ground?

I will get my son to code when he next visits and any issues it’s coming out.

Also ran a pipe from the camera down the drivers side through the bonnet release cable grommet to the pump which to my surprise had two outlets (one capped) so just a simple clip on. I removed the wing for access which was quite easy as never done this before especially on a car I bought new just over two years ago.

Dealer chargers me £477 all in for it fitted.

£477.00?

I am in the process of PX my current Skoda which has a reserving camera for a newer Skoda which sadly does not have a reversing camera.

I enquired at the Skoda dealer about getting one fitted and they said that for the supply and fitting of the camera was £623.00 but they have to send the car out to get it calibrated which is an extra £300.00 so a massive £923.00 in total

SashaGrace any thoughts?

I was told that if they didn’t have the calibration for the lines then it’s an extra £300 notes but they had it in the end. It’s some board or something they said that matches the steering wheel to the lines or some thing - I wasn’t really listening lol

I'll have to take apart some of the bootlid and perhaps more of the car for the required wiring to retrofit facelift taillights, so while I'm at it I ordered this cheap cam from Alibaba. Will let you know how it goes..

I fitted one of these about a month ago.  Cost about £45 in total including delivery and taxes, and it took a couple of hours to install.  Plug and play. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000230897829.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.2e88299f8wpCPU (version 'b' was for my Superb)

I've used AiDU Auto a few times, including for a very similar highline RVC for my MK3 Octavia which works perfectly.

turned out perfect, really decent image quality, and as @SashaGrace has been mentioning earlier in this thread, comes with all the required te connectors to do a decent job of the wiring around the quadlock connector around the back of the cd drive part of the mib2 headunit. You need to know the procedure for taking apart these connectors, removing pins and adding pins. I can help if you're unsure there.

@SashaGrace, my wiring all went fine according to this guide  https://www.cars-equipment.com/base/files/shop-attachments/6495308/44280.-kodovanie-6C-Highline-cam.pdf  ,  but I noticed that although all the other pins are really well catered for and considered, the +12v is just 'squashed' into the hole alongside the existing "big" 12v pin, which is a bit of a hack job. the +12v wire came with a similar pin on the end to the rest, and I wonder if the manufacturer of this aliexpress part intended the 12v to be pulled from somewhere else, another pin somewhere? just wondering how you did a clean job on that pin. The can lines came with a really nice proper splice solution.

Hey folks,

Didn’t want to start another topic on Reverse cameras!

I have went with this camera that AIVal went for, I have had some issues with installation, and wonder if anyone else has had similar issues and can point me in the right direction to resolve.

The Can+/- wires seemed to be wrongly wired in the new plug that is integrated into the back of the multimedia unit, so that was not a great start… see my post here… 😬

I now have the camera wired in correctly (swapped existing wires into new plug) and have done the coding suggested using OBD11, but unfortunately I still have no camera! 🙈

I have a No basic setting fault in 6c module. And I guess linked to this a Data bus (additional installations detected) fault in 19.

I wonder if this camera does not have the correct settings for the superb? But note AIVal seems to have gone for the same one, with no problems.

I have a pre facelift Superb, with Columbus MIB2 I believe… 17 plate.

Many thanks for any help.
