Come on. Metric is not the issue. Switch over ppl 😄😄😄

I spend a lot of time driving UK cars in France and I'd happily switch over to metric but not only can't I change my sat nav to give measurments in miles but I can't change the dash over to kph and there's no secondary tick marks on the dials. It makes it a tad tricky to drive the right speed when you're over there. I could always use waze on the phone but that's hardly safe

Android Auto should have a speedometer and set it to MPH

Skoda UK have recently contacted my friend reference the judder at cold and stated they're not interested in this issue unless/until 5% of MkIV 1.5TSI owners report the same issue. When cold and travelling at slow speeds, when he's leaving the housing estate first thing, in his words "on a trailing throttle" it feels like it's stalling then surging. The Kmh-Mph faff continues.

Which given that most Brit's don't tend to complain isn't likely to happen .... unless social media is stoked into action?

I have Octy mk4 with 1,5 Tsi manual.  Previous car was MK3 with 1.5 Tsi manual. The Mk3 was difficult to drive at first. The software upgrade improved matters but it still needed concentration and care to pull away from rest smoothly, The same engine in the Mk4 has not caused me any problems at all. I do live in a 20mph zone and the fist minute or two I stay at a low and steady speed.

My friend had a Mk3 FL 1.4 TSI and it didn’t do that. Perhaps it’s just his car. He’s had lots of cars over the years and knows how to drive. Either way it’s too difficult for Skoda to sort it.

Nothing to do with his car or knowing how to drive.

Plenty of threads on Briskoda about 1.5tsi issues. Well known characteristics of a significant number (but not all) of 1.5tsi engines are severe cold running hesitations, kangarooing and general intermittent and spurious total loss of power. None of which is accepted by VAG as a problem but then they say the same about DQ200 dsg boxes too.

To this day, still not known if resolved, or even if VAG made much of effort to resolve the issues. Many theories spouted on here but no answers, solutions or warranty from VAG - its simply a characteristic, live with it, is their answer.

In comparison the 1.4tsi suffers none of these issues and is generally praised as being an excellent engine, performance and other wise.

I understand that the only engine that kangarood was the 1.5 Tsi used from late 2017. It replaced the 1.4 Tsi. I reported two problems.

1. the engine would automatically rev up to about 1800 rpm when you were trying to make a slow maneuver. This was fixed with an early software update.

2. The engine had a slow throttle response such that when you tried to pull away normally, the engine would almost die and then recover. This lead to nose diving and hopping, like a learner who is still learning how control the clutch and accelerator smoothly. This was partially fixed with another software update. After the update, the car was much easier to drive but it was still too easy to stall the engine if you were not careful to give the car extra revs and a little extra time every time you pulled away. I read that cars with the same engine coupled to the DSG gear box suffered from severe hesitation when pulling away.

I now have an Octy Mk4 with the same engine and a manual gear box. I have had no problems at all with the pull-away. The engine is very quiet and refined and is giving me 53 mpg. I have not tested it yet but on paper, 150bhp and a top speed of 140 mph is more than I will ever need. I wanted this engine again because of its combined frugality, refinement and power. Skippy has gone and the good features remain.

Good for you then. They either fixed it finally, or you are lucky you are not in the minority that are not so lucky.

Only time will tell if the issues will fade away into history. Definitely will be gone by 2030 though (in the UK/EU)

I think all the 1.5s at that time suffered from the problems because it was fixed by software. I expect that later engines had the software upgrade from new and that some owners were happy to accept the problems. For the same reason, I expect that the 2020 1,5s will not have the same problem.

I was just reading about the 2030 deadline too. Is it possible to achieve by 2030? I have read that Jaguar and Volvo have already declared that they will only build electric vehicles by 2030.  1. How many ordinary people can pay more than £30k for a car? 2. How many people can accept a car with range less than about 300 miles? 3. How are we all going to get plug-in points? 4. Where is the power for those points going to come from? 5. Where is all the lithium for the batteries going to come from?

Whatever, either the oil runs out and we have to use renewables and change our behaviour or we find vast new reserves of oil and we all fry, or drown.

I have noticed the jumping in the mornings, I had thought it was just me!
