I'm afraid I've joined the growing list of owners rejecting vehicles plagued with the technological problems. (It would be interesting to know how many have been rejected over recent months.......)

I think the more people who pass on their details to HJ, the better.

I sent a quick email to BBC Watchdog this morning and had a call back to discuss. Has anyone else contacted them? If not, it might be worth dropping them a line too

Have you got a number/address for this you could pass on please? I will do the same.

I have about had it now. I am speaking to my dealer today about an update and if there is none I am going to reject the car. So sad. Had enough of it wasting my time. Be interesting to see if I have to fight to get my money back or whether they will comply.

That's the link I used. As for getting your money back, I've been waiting nearly 6 weeks since I first told them I wanted to reject it, although around 5 since I sent a letter saying so. They're still delaying and it's really putting me off. I was willing to go with another Skoda back then but I really don't want to deal with them or my local garage any more.

This is what I fear. Cant even go into the dealership personally to really push the case either.

If at all possible can you please try to obtain full details of the update ('Package of Measures') This will be a code similar to; 97EQ which was one released on 25th November last. including details of the 'Criterions' (individual items/components updated on your indivudual car) which will enable us to compare where we each are and clearly show the affected items being updated.  ~One of the major issues we have been suffering is that we are not being kept informed by Skoda.  We can then compare it with our own Infotainment Head Part No and have a definitive.

Many thanks in anticipation and good luck, hope it is successful for you.

I'm booking the car in via an online system and it confirms the update is to 97EQ-S Service Packet.

Oh p.s....

A Recall is forced on a manufacturer by the relevant country authorities for a serious road safety issue; but Skoda UK, dealers and owners often incorrectly call a Service Campaign a 'Recall'. What is happening at the moment are 'only' Service Campaigns not Recalls.

Just,

A Manufacturers 'Recall Action / Service Campaign' only if they are not 'Recalling the cars by contacting the Registered Keepers.

If Skoda do an actual 'Recall' on Safety Critical stuff then it should be on the DVLA Recall Website.

Skoda certainly do not want that.  But maybe time that they actually have to have that.

If you buy a vehicle which really has safety issues, then VOSA is who you should contact just incase Skoda / VW disagree and think they can pan VOSA off with saying they are doing 'Voluntary Recalls' , yet owners have to come to them and complain before they even tell them of updates.

Would the kph/mph issue count as safety? Probably not I would guess

Very much not a safety critical fault if the car has a working speedo in MPH when in the UK and the speed done is controlled by the driver.

For 'Goods not fit for purpose issues',  first contact the seller, and if that goes no place, Contact CAB or a Solicitor.

If the car is owned by others because on finance / leased (rented), then contact them and have them deal with the getting onto the supplier.

Especially if that finance house is owned by the VW Group.

Morning,

Received a reply from HJ yesterday:

Hello Phil,

Your email has now gone to the head of PR at Skoda, along with 9 others, and he's onto the case.

Rgds, best wishes and stay safe,

Whether or not Skoda's head of PR chooses to act on it or give a stiff ignoring is down to him. Here's hoping...

Fingers crossed

FYI - I have just dropped mine to the dealership for investigation...

Confirmation that the mph/kmh was escalated from UK tech team to the factory.

97EQ update was done today, I've used the car three times since and not had a repeat of any of the previous issues. That is definitely unheard of for me, I have been experiencing a minimum of one problem per day if used a few times.

Android Auto connected bang on within about 20 seconds each time too, none of the frequent resetting needed to get it working.

Will give it this full weekend of use before drawing a firm conclusion and will report back again, and (if no more issues) will report likewise to Honest John.

Which dealership website did you use to book your car in? I was just wondering if I tried to book mine in whether it would say there was an update required.

Very pleased for you - has it also corrected the Metric/Imperial issues?

Mine received 97EQ on March 3rd just before I took delivery. It does not address the Meteic/imperial issue.

It was Lookers but I only got the link after booking in by telephone, it was more a check-in actually.

I didn't have the MPH/KPH issue to start with, so can't comment on that.

Good luck with the new car. It’s a shame as you say, but if you’ve lost confidence and it poses a safety issue then this is the best decision.

I've had three days of use out of my car (1.5 SE F.E.) since receiving the 97EQ update and can report on it fairly now I think.

It definitely has improved the stability of the infotainment system, in that I have been able to login each time without fail or delay, and have not experienced any of the totally blank screens etc from the past, no lengthy waiting on user profiles, no Skoda logo hanging about on the screen forever etc. Android Auto is also a lot more stable, it has connected every single time I have started the car, which it has never done from day one.

The system is not however without errors, and so far I have experienced the following:

• A Stop/Start system failure error message when I started the car. I had never once received this message before, the Stop/Start system however still operated despite briefly displaying this message.

• No climate control +/- icons or temperature displayed after one start-up. This I only noticed when I went to adjust the temperature while driving, and I had to stop and reset the system to be able to do so.

• No climate control direction adjustment icons (i.e. window, face feet, floor) were displayed after one start-up, again I had to stop and reset this in order to use it.

• A Background Lighting menu icon always appears on start up now, which was not present before, but is actually blank/unusable if you click on it (I presume this is a buried option for something that is not accessible on my trim) then disappears after a while.

So in summary, the software update has brought some stabiity, but three errors and one bizarre unusable menu item over three days demonstrates that the update is not a cure-all.

If anyone has suffered stability or any issues then I'd encourage you look into your dealership conducting an update, but they clearly are not there yet with fixing everything.

Will report likewise to HJ.
