KPH/MPH

Featured Replies

When an NVQ doesn't cut the mustard, (& where would it?) then some women can call on other attributes to climb the corporate pole.

Editted, thats unfair to the vast majority of NVQ holders, it does seem somewhat out of place in the position that she holds with VAG though.

@sneal I used to have contact with the Communications Managers and some of the Resolutions managers that had Technical Knowledge and that got things done back when the Skoda UK Brand Director was Alasdair Stewart & he had staff answerable to him that knew their stuff.  That was before the VW Group UK started getting shot of them and replacing with 'Business People' that could knock back warranty claims.

They have been through a few Heads of Skoda UK since Alasdair Stewart left the VW Group and they cleared out lots of the staff that were there doing their best for customers.  It got to a stage that nobody at HQ ever admitted to having heard of an issue before and dealt with each as though something unique.

It became like they Hot Desked and at each shift end they deleted their memory and cleared their laptop history.

Thanks @fox2319 and @Ajdude for the list of things to watch for; mine is an ex demo/fleet with 4k miles on the clock so probably not a reject.

I'll make sure to log the small issues I have now just in case they turn into something bigger in the future.

My car had around 2.6k on it when rejected.

I'm afraid I've joined the growing list of owners rejecting vehicles plagued with the technological problems. (It would be interesting to know how many have been rejected over recent months.......)

As was stated in the recent article in the Guardian:"If the manufacturer was aware of these faults, it is wholly unacceptable that it has continued to take cash from consumers without fixing the issue."

https://www.theguardian.com/money/2021/may/01/vw-audi-and-skoda-owners-angry-over-fault-in-sos-warning-system

The car has so much potential and is class-leading in so many respects. However, I'm afraid I chose not to live with the unreliability of the technology.

A poor experience for me as a customer and a poor episode in the manufacturer's history.

I hope that others have a far better experience of this new Octavia than I did. If so, enjoy it - after spending your hard earned money, you deserve to!

I agree with @sneal, making comment about what you find online about someone is harsh man

People will make up their own mind on just how much the   Skoda UK / VW group Resolution Managers are interested in resolving the issues of paying customers that were sold products not fit for purpose in a timely manner.  At no cost to the customer putting trust in n the manufacturer and the importer.  Those interested might read the 'rejection thread'.   There is  mission with the VW group but honesty is not really part of that mission.

I think fighting the big man is fine @e-Roottoot, just online snipes at individuals and what life opportunities or qualifications are open to them is unfair. I think anyone who's been on this forum for longer than a few days can start to realise the dissonance between what is good customer service and "oh, that's the first time we've heard of that error. We'll contact Skoda HQ."

Anyone had any more progress? I saw there was an "Error fix" software update the other day but it didn't seem to do anything.

Aside from bugging the local garage, is there anything else that we can do to get this fixed?

I emailed Honest John to register the Kph/mph issue on my Skoda first edition having spoke to my dealership they denied all knowledge of this common fault .I was given a link to Skoda UK and i emailed them , the reply is below:-

The reply is not really what i expected as the issue is a hardware problem not the software so it will be interesting to see the outcome in four weeks time,im not holding my breath.Feel free to use the email address for Skoda UK to register your complaints on this issue.

"We are aware of a small number of OCTAVIA A8 vehicles which have reported some interruptions in the functionality of certain driver assist systems, which is being investigated. ŠKODA UK are always looking to improve the operating parameters of our vehicles during their life span and we understand a software update will be released shortly which should address these experiences.

We are hoping to have a resolution in the next 4 weeks.

Thank you for your patience.

Kind regards

I jsut had a call from Kate Laws who has said they now have a fix for the kph/mph error.

It is hoped this update will be able to be applied in 3 weeks and that she will ring in 2 weeks to confirm. She said 3rd week of June it is due.

Likewise. I had a call Tuesday afternoon with a similar message.

Hopefully our patience will be rewarded…

That’s good news. I do hope It fixes the issue and all the other ones.

My concern, and the reason I didn't wait for the fix was that Skoda only ever mentioned the KPH/MPH issue. I had a feeling that because this was the legal issue, they were only concerned about this. When I spoke to them about up dates they never mentioned whether there was a fix for all the other glitches with the infotainment system mentioned. I hope they have sorted ALL of the issues to reward for all those that have waited. You all deserve it.

I echo OctaviaFirstEdit and fully concur. Do hope you achieve a full resolution to all the varied issues.

They should be offering compensation to be honest.

Thanks.

During my call with Skoda UK, I was encouraged by reference to the fix being for not only the KPH/MPH issue, but also things like ACC, road sign recognition, emergency braking and so on.

I so want my car back, and working as it should!

I’m debating the best time to ask for compensation, and how much (or what) to ask for; it will be knocking on for three months without my car assuming I get it back at the end of this month.

The auto braking issue is frightening me and should be a major concern for Skoda ,I know you can turn it off but warns you not to and you have to reset after each journey .This car is scaring the **** out of me and think Skoda should be held responsible for these issues and the fact they released the car without fully testing it .

I had that problem and was told that it wasn't recognised on the computer. It seemed to me that because it wasn't logged, they said it didn't exist. It happened once with me and that was the point at which I didn't want the car back. How it didn't cause an accident I will never know but to then be told that the car had not logged the incident, was crazy.

I asked for compensation from Stepahnie Kennan and was told pretty point blank that there would be none forthcoming. They have to legally provide a car. They did that at their expense and that was that. They may be more 'generous' with those of you that have hung on though. I keep my fingers crossed for you and will keep following to see if the hunt for a faultless mk iv materialises.

I also tried my hand at claiming compensation (from the dealership, after Skoda made their lack of legal obligation clear to me) and they didn't even mention it when they settled-up. I got all my deposit money and all of my payments back and, unlike some less fortunate than me, they didn't make any mileage/wear and tear charge, which I understand they have the right to do.

A bird in the hand being worth two in the bush, I wasn't going to flog a dead horse and continue to press home a point about my loss of petrol making trips to the dealership, loss of flexi-time from work, loss of petrol left in the tank when I returned the car. At the end of the day, other than my insurance and petrol costs, I had a free car for over five months, so....

I would still recommend everybody aims high with their list of demands when complaining or rejecting, but on the basis of while it is your 'ideal', you will accept less during negotiation.

Hi all , i have had the new software 1803 installed at dealership. Cant see any difference to operation , not any faster. Only time will tell if the glitches are gone for good

Ive had a call from VW uk who offered me a hire car until the update is installed on my Skoda.I am assured it will be approx three weeks and it should cure the auto braking ,Kph/mph ,Laura and the issue where postcodes are shown as GPS reference numbers. Hope it works OK.

Our Octavia iV estate was bought on May 11th and yesterday I found the way to set kph in settings. The digital display now shows kph. I'm not aware of any software updates as when I'm asked on the car's display, I refuse. I also set the clock to 'automatic' and via the SIM card, it now displays internet time. This should fix the problem I had with random time changes. The dealer told me yesterday that Skoda UK has received a software update and several thousand cars are eligible for the 'fix' and owners should be contacted by their dealer. Ours is already booked in on June 17th.

Thanks Jim, that timescale is the same as I recd  from Skoda .Let's hope it fixes all the issues GPS in Mph,Laura ,GPS Co ordinates and braking assist .I don't have a SIM card in my car

I've not been on this thread for over a week and am pleased to read that people have started receiving an update.

My car is already booked in for next Tuesday so they can look at the intermittent flickering fuel gauge and temperature gauge lights, I've got my fingers crossed that any update they install will solve my infotainment issues.

Although I have had no infotainment issues since the 18th May when I found that switching the ignition on before starting the car (push the start button without your foot on the clutch) stopped the issues occurring.
