I've finally jumped on the DCC Slider mod bandwagon.
The new DCC maps give the car a much more composed ride.
We didn't have to do the DCC recalibration as I had already done that a while ago.
While there, I also got the 60 Sec Lane keeping tweak.  Tis good not having to touch the steering wheel every 12 secs 🙂 

 

The DCC slider mod requires  the Gateway module to b updated and loaded with the appropriate maps, including updating the DCC module software update.

 

The 60 Sec Lane requires a software update on the A5 (camera) module.

 

Can I ask who / where you did it and cost of new module?  Do you feel any difference between new normal the old normal with the new parameters? Ie is this worth more than a slider? Regards.

I did not replace any modules.

This involves just software - using a different dataset of parameters.

A person I know has the special ODIS and VCP tools which enables him to update the software revisions, and load parameter datasets.

 

For this, the dataset used for the Arteon & Passat was loaded into the Gateway & DCC modules.

So not only do u get the DCC Slider (15 levels), u also get a much better/effective suspension mapping, resulting in a much much better ride.

 

U definitely feel the difference - it's no placebo effect.

The car feels more composed.
It has completely eliminated the remaining bounce effect.

The suspension settles much faster.  No more body roll.

An alternative that I've recently seen on the market is APR's SCU tune, however that replaces the existing DCC module with their own, and it costs 100x the amount I paid for the DCC Slider mod.

@JR RS On the subject of DCC. Do you have any photos of the DCC accelerometer locations - 1 on each front strut tower and one near one of the rear strut towers. Im doing a retrofit on my car and cant find the exact locations for the rear one.

I believe its buried behind the trim on the left or right of the boot area.

hmmm.....unfortunately i have no idea about the DCC accelerometer locations.  i didn't realise that was a thing.
i'm only aware of the suspension level sensors that DCC module uses, as well as the headlights for levelling.  there is two up front (one on each suspension control arm), and one at the rear, on the left suspension control arm.

Perfect thanks! The Skoda manual doesnt give a clear location but that helps a lot.

It never ceases to amaze me that we need to visit VW or Audi to get the details, Skoda should have included these.

Thanks for that - exactly wat I was looking for cause I remember it having some diagrams that might help -  I just couldn't find it.

 

It shows the location of the accelerometers on pg 24 - G341, G342 and G343.

 

 

 

I put Gandalf on the Dyno as I was curious to see how much power it was actually making with the APR Stg 1 ECU tune and DSG tune.

 

I'm happy with the results.  
The torque was higher than I expected.

 

Outside Air temp was 20 degrees.

Did 3x runs.  Each time it did approx. 220 kw and 530 Nm.

 

Being the stock IS20 turbo and intercooler, the Intake Air Temps (IAT) was getting too high, making the ECU reduce power towards the end, as u can see in the graph.

 

A larger intercooler will help vastly with sustaining the power curve for much longer.
Tis next on the cards.

 

Max: 222.7 kW  /  532.3 Nm

Was an idea I thought of and wanted to try. I think I like it.

 

Hence I used gloss black vinyl wrap, easy to do and I can easily remove.

Plasti-dip is too much work (prep) and time (too many coats).

Gandalf had its 90k km service today, although there is only just 77k kms on the clock.

 

Spark plugs changed.

Cabin filters changed.

Brake flush.

Brake pads & rotors still good (still on factory originals)

 

All is well except they noticed "Oil leak developing from upper timingcover seals"

It doesn't need to b addressed urgently, but something that will need to b done in the near future

They say it's normal with this engine, especially given the age.

 

Not cheap to fix though - will cost around the $650 mark!!

 

I am not worried as it's not drip leaking, nor am I losing oil.

I haven't spotted it thus far, but I'll keep an eye on it from now on.

IME the first action here tends to be "check torque of timing cover bolts". I've had this "issue" from 3 different makes, and it was always loose timing cover bolt(s).

Thanks for that tip - will c if I can find the torque specs for the timing cover bolts.

 

Got the intercooler upgraded on Gandalf, to the IE FDS version.

much larger core than the factory version.

 

should help with the little IS20 turbo to last longer and not run out of puff so quickly.

should also help with keeping the IATs down during the warm/hot summer months.

 

whilst the car was up, i got the last of the aero under trays fitted - in this case the centre exhaust cover.

WHT 000 729 A (x3) - hexagon socket head bolt, self-locking,(M8x20mm).

 

 

5Q0 825 229 C (x1) - Lining (cover) long length WITH heat shield material on reverse.

N 038 549 4 (x4) - Black plastic push rivet A04A

I couldn't resist Kopacek's recent 22% of sale, so i added some "aero fins" to Gandalf's rear end....diffusser.

 

Removed the diffuser so i could paint it gloss black, then the aero fins glued on as a single piece.

 

As a result, my drag coefficient has dropped now and my fuel consumption has improved remarkably!!

....yeah, and pigs fly too!!! 😝

 

 

 

Latest project completed on Gandalf - added ambient lighting to the inside of the door pockets, so I can actually see wat stuff is in there.
Wiring is piggy backed off the door warning light, so it turns on and off with the door open/close.
All 4 door pockets now have ambient lighting 😁

 

After 6.5 years, decided to change Gandalf's personality.

 

Really pleased with how these turned out, and the fitment is spot on.

I pick up my Superb to replace my Octavia this week, and I've noticed your posts on the Aussie FB groups. You've got a fantastic looking car with tasteful mods, and those wheels are just perfect. That rear three quarter shot showing the wheels and the tinted tail lights are ...... causing my pants to tighten 😍
