Thanks. I'd guess this is Amundsen.

Evening all

i I’ve just bought a Mk3 and have been running around the forum trying to get up to speed with my cars facilities and specifically what options I’ve got regarding my infotainment unit.
My car didn’t come with an owners manual (one on order now) but it does have an Infotainment manual which tells me I’ve got an Amundsen unit and the car has a Canton music system.
I’d really like to ensure that I’m as up to date with things as I can be, but tbh this thread has left my head reeling!

if some kind soul could help me here to do any upgrading available to me I’d be very grateful!

Many thanks.

I was just looking for the same thing. Kinda.

I have the same device number as yourself, but I just want to use Android Auto, so will need new hardware, but I'll be damned if I can figure out the 'simplest' route.

Hello all,

my MIB part number is 5Q0 035 842 C.

It's not in the list at the beginning of the thread. But i guess that it's also an Amundsen unit, right?

Also I was wondering: I do not have navigation on this unit, but I have an empty SD card slot.

Is there a way to get navigation working with this?

Thanks!

How many SD card slots? AFAIK an Amundsen always has 2 - one for media and one for maps.

Do you have a NAV button? If not then you likely do not have either an Amundsen or a Columbus, which means you would have a unit that does not support navigation.

I have only one SD card slot, and no NAV button. So I guess no NAV for me?

I just searched the Skoda page for my unit, and I think it's called Bolero.

Columbus has a nav button...

That looks like a swing.

Hi  i am new to this forum and to the world of Skoda  I have an octavia vrs wagin mk3.5 and I have a couple of issues regarding the infotainment system.

1. My android auto is temperamental. It fails to connect 95% of the time. Phone is a Samsung, fully updated. Is it likely to be a cable issue? Am I better to buy a dongle to make it wireless?

2. I don't think that this is the most up to date software. What are my options for updating?

I am still waiting for the dealer to supply the sd card for navigation.

Thanks in advance

That's a MIB2 Amundsen, good luck getting the dealer to supply the correct SD card - the dealer in Southampton didn't have a clue so I bought genuine Skoda one (that's essential as a generic SD card won't work) on eBay for a fraction of the official price.

And yet, when I updated the firmware and the maps in my car a regular SanDisk work just fine.

Firmware update can use any SD card, even on an Amundsen.

You say you updated the maps OK, do you have to leave the SD card in the slot in the glovebox for navigation to work? If not them I'm puzzled as the part number you've posted appears to be for an Amundsen but if navigation works without the SD card in place then that suggests it's a Columbus???

Bear in mind I have a Superb 3v. Don't have to leave the card in for Nav to work.

Would make more sense for you to post in the correct Superb forum then 👍

But that would mean that I'd have to actually read where I'm posting!

Making changes to mistake

  • 4 weeks later...

I didn’t want to start a new thread for my question as I’m sure it’s been asked before many times, I just cannot find the correct combination of info to help me out.
I’m hoping @pab567 can help me out by hooking me up for a quote on upgrade options for my vehicle. I have VIN number on hand ready to go. Here are screen shots of my current setup:

So now you have AMundsen MIB1, with Bluetooth, with DAB, part number 5E0035874A, with USB 5Q0035726B and fortunately you don't have CANTON sound system.

You can install one of four different OEM glove box units:

- MIB2 Bolero
- MIB2 Amundsen
- MIB2 Columbus
- MIB2.5 Columbus

You also need to replace display unit:

- for MIB2 Bolero you can use either 6.5" model number 5E0919605H or 8" model number 5E0919605N
- for MIB2 Amundsen and MIB2 Columbus you can use listed above display as well as 6.5" model number 5E0919605J, 8" model number 5E0919606, 8" model number 5E0919605M
- for MIB2.5 Columbus the only display unit that works is 5E0919606D

If you woulkd like to use Apple CarPlay then you also have to replace USB port.

The question is what is your budget and which of listed below features are "must have":
- Video playback from DVD, USB, SD
- CD playback
- OEM navigation
- displaying OEM maps in Virtual Cluster (Active Info Display).

All units support SmartLink (Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink), rear view camera, voice command. features that differ them:
- MIB2 Bolero - no OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB
- MIB2 Amundsen - OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)
- MIB2 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, no support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)
- MIB2.5 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

@pab567 I would like to just have Apple Car Play and OEM nav. So the MIB2 Amundsen sound like the right choice? With upgraded USB port too of course…

oh and bigger screen than I have now, so 8”?

Hi!

Looking into buying MK3 2017 Octavia. It seems to have newer Swing but I am trying to make sense if its Android Auto compatible. Seller does not know.

In car manual Smartlink and Android Auto is mentioned. Added a picture how it looks, but has instead of the APP button its written SOUND. That is making me doubt, could be some earlier version which does not support Android Auto? Car VIN: TMBJ P7NE7 J00 59996

Thank You in advance and nice to see so big community just for Skoda!
