Infotainment System Restarting endlessly

Featured Replies

So mine has been parked up on the drive for the last two days. There’s been nice weather and the sun is shining into the cabin.

through all yesterday and now this morning, the radio keeps switching itself on. Every time I’ve walked past it whilst gardening it’s been on, despite me turning it off each time.

this morning i can see it looping and restarting.

I’ve not driven it or moved it or anything beyond cycling the ignition each time i find it running.

as soon as the sun went down it stopped, now this morning as soon as the sun shone on it, it starts again.

anyone else have this problem?

  • I had so many spontaneous reboots this week with even 4 occurring on the same day that the infotainment system was practically unusable. That’s why I decided to go ahead and install 1941 yesterday.

Which version of software do you have?

I’m on 1941

it was doing this last spring, which prompted me to get it upgraded to 1941. The dealer did it though thankfully.

I normally have very few of the catalogue of problems identified on this forum, but i do worry I’ll park it in the sun somewhere and come back to a flat battery.

I would suggest that you talk to Skoda Customer Support, and email them too asking them to call you over this issue.

It's not acceptable behaviour and needs to be rectified asap. And ask politely if they could get a master technician involved with it at a dealership.

And be prepared for Skoda not having any solution to this problem. Just sayin.

Would be interesting to know if those problems are also present to Apple Car play users, because for what I saw during the last days, it seems the situation falls when AA starts to have problems. For example some days ago after continuous reboots with AA connected I went on a supermarket and paying with Google Wallet it also had problems. Once restarted my phone everything went ok and also resetting infotainment to factory and reconnecting the phone solved the problem.

I'm software designer and cyber security expert in life, so will not be a surprise to discover some kind of issues between infotainment hardware firmware and AA, that makes unusable both... infotainment and phone

Prior to update to 1941 (dealer, last July) the Infotainment System in mine would reboot several times each time I started a journey. I'm a CarPlay user so wasn't only an AA issue.

Thankfully, since 1941 no problems.

I use Apple car play exclusively. The cycling resets i experienced last year were when using car play.

mines been fine since then too. To be fair it was fine for 6 months before it started too.

the current problem is when the car is switched off for me, rather than when I’m driving it.

I think constant on and off cycles are HW problem. Changing with newer version of display, ABT, should help. If it doesnt, make them change again😁 Rebooting while driving was SW issue for most of us.

1 year old Octavia here. On version 1941 for some time and I only saw 1 reboot in all those months since hitting this version. We had a spell of warmer than usual warm weather here for a few days. On Saturday morning (9am not very hot) my car started what looked like continuous reboots of the infotainment system also. Muting of the radio/music happened also and an error about parking brake appeared on dash. Turning off the infotainment system while driving did not stop the reboots.

What worried me was that later I parked my car and returned to see that the radio was on despite it being off when I had parked it. I also noticed that car didnt appear to "shut down" on another occasion when I was locking it - the 2 dash dials remained on screen after locking and when I was walking away. All was good when I returned that time.

Car has behaved as normal on Sunday and this morning. I'm concerned I'll return to a flat battery if radio stays on for some time and I will not be able to travel as required. I will get in contact with dealer.

Password: BriSkoda!

I never had error unpaking end everything loooks like working good.

We'll see in the next days what happen.

It look like a bit more reactive but I had to upgrade the map because I was back to an old version.

Everytihng was correctly syncronized.

Thanks for help

Will this be good for my 2018 Kodiaq Bolero ?

No. I don't think so.

You would be better off asking on the Kodiaq forum, if owners of Kodiaq's are experiencing the same issues.

Little update today the infotainment has been looping restarting all day, and when it wasn’t doing that, it was randomly muting.

I’ve discovered it’s the slider touch area having phantom touches. Particularly the power button.

that’s also what’s making it come on when the car is parked up.

i don’t know what’s causing it but it got better later on in the day. It wasn’t that hot today.

I’m going to call Skoda assist tomorrow and see if they’ll take it in.

It's unlikely that they'll take it in as the car is driveable, they might be able to diagnose what's causing the issue, it's unlikely that they'll carry the software updates, so it'll be up to you to take your car to the dealership yourself.

Maybe. I’m going to try to argue it isn’t drivable.

a lot of the controls for the car are operated through the screen which is unusable.

It’s probably likely the battery will be flat anyway i can see the radio is on again and the screen looping whilst it’s parked up outside.

Exact same symptoms. Email sent to dealer but no reply yet. It's in for routine service on 30/5.

Car suffered a repeat of the non starting issue again last night. 6 months since this has happened before. As per last time it did start after about 15 minutes. Various component errors appearing on dash when I was attempting to start car.

Hi, new owner here🙂

I picked up Škoda Octavia MK4, 2021 on Wednesday (two days ago) and in the first 30 minutes of the drive everything was fine. However, I'm losing my mind right now. System restarts itself in intervals (sometimes after 3 minutes, sometimes after 10 minutes - average every 5 minutes).

When I picked the car up, I checked firmware version which was 1941 and I thought, great, they did the update already. But to my surprise it gets worse and worse. First I thought that I need to do the factory reset but it hasn't helped. Then I thought that the problem was Apple CarPlay and so I did another factory reset and I didn't even connect my phone (no Bluetooth, no Carplay). After few minutes, restarting itself. Then I saw that the problem could be location sharing in the infotainment, but guess what? Didn't helped😁

Today I also did an update 1969, thought that would solve something but no, still the same problem.

I have an appointment on Wednesday at the dealer to check if everything is ok, but still it's very frustrating (especially when you're on a call with someone and infotainment decides that reset would be nice.😅

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, what could help?

Thank you all🫡

If car is under warranty, they will eventually fix it. Until it comes up next time. If you have no warranty, reject the car asap since repairs are expensive.

I have some kind of warranty and this is actually covered.

But a little update. Few minutes ago I have finished 2 hour drive and not a single restart. Only difference is that I wasn’t using Spotify, I was using Youtube Music. Everything else was the same.

A little update to my situation:

Yesterday I went to the service and the company accepted the substitution of the Infotainment display under guarantee.

Hope this will finally solve.

A question for who knows:

When they substitute the display unit what will exactly change on the system info version?

Actually mine are:

5E3035816H / H56 / 1969
"Unit display command hardware: H44"
"Unit display command hardware: 2088"

I suppose will be a difference in the last 2 lines, right?

Thank you

They will place the same part according to your VIN, so no changes there. Though before accepting the car, check that all SW is updated to the same version as before. When they were changing my infotainment, they were giving me car back with 1668 every time 🤦‍♂️ If they change only screen, I guess that might not be the case, though I can never be sure that people working on front desk know what they are talking about and what exactly will be changed. So better to double check.

When they change display, ABT SW and HW number will change (display unit). Mine is now, after change, H49 and 2103 and it was like yours, so a newer version unit is installed. System SW version doesnt change, it is on infotainment unit, not on display.

Then that's the best news. Perhaps they finally run out of older hardware. Before, at least in my case, they were insisting that what catalogue shows according to VIN, that they install, no matter if there are newer and more stable versions available.
